Join me on a little tickle in North Staffordshire as I thank all my Friends, You tube Friends, Relatives and others who generously donated to the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in aid of raising awareness for Mens Mental Health and Prostate Cancer.
I also share a story about a fellow I new many years ago who had an unfortunate ( but I thought funny) incident whilst conducting a bit of routine maintenance on his bike.
I also share viewers photos as the deadline approaches for the end of the month photo competition.

Another cracking video bud, the story about the chain bought back memories of a girl l knew who lost her whole index finger doing that. It's something l have never done since then. 👍

Someone has taken offense to me Telling the story.
In our case there was thankfully no lasting damage, can't speak for his mum though🤔
It may at least remind us of the pitfalls.

Sounds like you had a good time at the DGR ride. As I said I didn’t have one near me, but I held a solo ride in observance! Glad you met and exceeded your goal and proud to have helped!

@@shottostravels it’s going well so far. I’ve only got about 80 miles so far because I’m working on my riding skills and taking it easy during break in. But this weekend I increased my radius and hoping to do about 50 a weekend.
It’s lovely riding around my area, lots of hills, pastures, cows and horses. I get lots of looks and waves from pedestrians which is a new experience for me. I will try and take some pictures or a vid and share with you.
Break in is going well. Had a check engine after about 40 miles but I have a OBD and it was an O2 code. No issues so I cleared it and it hasn’t come back. Everything has been great.
Were you very adherent to the recommended break in? I’m watching to the recommended shit points per RE. I also vary my speed. I just feel that keeping it below 45 when folks are doing about 50. Of course I did pass a speed meter and noted my speedo is about 3-5 mph less than my clocked speed.
Running In. Just be steady for a while. Let it warm up, use your gears, don't over rev in any of the gears but don't let it labour too much either.
I pretty much gave up at about 1000 miles, the bike was loosening up nicely by then.
You will feel it, it will run better.

Tip,, Park it somewhere interesting. we all want to see a bit of The USA behind it!

I managed it on a bicycle turning the crank with one hand and oiling with the other. Fortunately it just ripped the nail off, not the finger. When adjusting any chain always turn the wheel until you find the tightest spot - sprockets are never perfectly round - then adjust for some give in the middle of the chain line at that point. An overtightened chain wears quickly and can damage the bearings, especially at the engine end. Apologies if I'm stating the obvious.
Don't be daft, no you're not it's good to be reminded and some people have only just started their motorcycle journey.

Great stories, love the punn about getting the,meat of the story, concerning that lad and his finger 🤞,I use gear oil and an inch brush, just bought a classic bronze, hope it's capable of coping with the west Cork roads,living on the W.A.W . I see a lot of bikes passing in a hurry to get to see it all in a weekend,best of gear with um, they don't have the time to stop n talk.....sad really I think, how society has become such a consumer 😢, keep having the Craic....

Smashing video Keith. Very entertaining as usual. I've also heard of a biker losing his finger while oiling his motorcycle chain. Ouch! I also rode the DGR in Wales. Perfect weather made it a great day, with some fabulous machines on show.

Ay up Keith, kudos for your fundraising efforts on Sunday and well done mate! I've not taken part in a DGR yet, and this year was going to be 'the one', but it was my 72nd birthday on Sunday and it'd been organised for me to go to Donington with the kids/grandkids for BSB. I'd already sponsored another rider elsewhere, so at least I did my bit - sort-of.
Keith, you had me splitting my sides with your chain-lubing story; my missus' boss's partner has a little 125, and a couple of months ago did exactly the same! - he managed to get his fingertip sewn back on, but has a story to tell!

Thanks Martin, make sure you do it next year. It was a great day and not the normal wacky races type group charity run. Lots of old codgers on some old, and some, like mine pretending to be old bikes.

I met a chap whose brother had vfr 750. Decided to clean chain in first gear. Grabbed hold with a rag. Oh dear. Severed 4 fingers between wrist and knuckles.. dear me. 😱😱
Oh Bugger, you know we've all done stupid things but some unlucky people pay a high price.

Hi Keith, thanks for the mention about the DGR and the photos, glad you liked my joke about Noah. Monday was naff/cloudy, so managed to give the bike a good clean yesterday, first one.
Talk about history repeating itself, back in 2017, my new Bonneville had its first service and on the way home the skies opened up and with thunder and lightening all the way home, so both bikes have been christened during the running in period. 😞
