in the 1953 book , Trusty did die. Granted , in the book, Trusty had a bit more depth to him, and his death played an important part in the Tramp's character development. It was the right thing to do in the end. Plus, this brought more love for Trusty.
im surprised Peggy Lee kept a straight face due to those entertaining and funny backing vocalists! and I wonder how many outakes it actually took because they must have been LOL all the time!!
Those men were known as "The Mellowmen" and it was Thurl Arthur Ravenscroft who did the singing part of the bulldog. He was also known as the voice of Tony the Tiger, the lead singing voice of Grim Grinning Ghosts on the Haunted Mansion ride, and he sang "You're a mean one, Mr. Grinch".
I have no idea how she manages to not be laughing with her her chorus of man-dogs. You hear her almost giggle at one part in the chorus near the end. She's so calm, cool and collected!
My Grandpa was madly in love with her and my daddy is telling me the story of Peggy Lee. We just bought Peggy Lee's Greatest Hits on Amazon. I freakin' love her. So classy and elegent.
Those guys doing the dog voices, their faces. Just classic. Cant wait to buy the DVD of Lady and the Tramp. It was one of my favourite disney movies of all time.
Haha, love it! I've never seen this clip, but I have seen a black & white clip of the guys howling in that sad scene when Lady 1st enters the pound. I laughed at that guy that plays the bulldog when he goes "bum-bum-bum-RUFF", lol!!! I miss the old Disney cartoons like this *sigh*. Aside from a few, these newer computer animated ones don't really do anything for me.
u must not know what gay actually means! its not supposed to be a term for homosexual, thats not what it meant. it means, " happy, carefree, over the moon". u must be really young
C Jamayca Brown You must know that I do & that I simply did it to raise satire at the comparative speech patterns of the previous century!! Jees... CHILL ppl!
I love this song so much; this movie has such excellent music ^_^ Peggy Lee was so right for that scene, and I'm glad her voice is immortalized for children in Lady & the Tramp!
Only Disney could come up with something like this! Thank you so much for uploading this! I was driving my parents nuts trying to get them to remember videos like this from when they were little, and all my dad could remember was the men singing the dog quartet. And now, someone born way after this movie came out, gets the chance to see this, thank you so much!
They don't come much better than Peggy Lee, that's for sure. And this sequence in the movie is just priceless. A torch song by a furry little dog. Great stuff.
My dad was playing Peggy Lee songs, and when I found this video, I wanted to know how she sang it while those men doing dog noises, I didn't expect them all singing together. I could've burst out laughing.
i sang this and my cousin said " ew she sings weird" then she said put on selena gomez thats better THEN iI SAID " y dont u go fall in a well" and i slapped her
Im 15, and I like rock, pop, electronic (not so much hip hop), but I also truly love jazz! When I first heard this song at age 5 in 'Lady and the Tramp' on VHS, I fell in love; with the song, with Peggy lee, and with jazz. Since then, I've developed my musical knowledge, coming to appreciate many genres, but I've never forgotten my love for jazz. When I hear some of the music on todays radio it saddens me a bit that music like this no longer is popular with kids. But I will always love jazz.
Hands down my All time favorite song from this movie. Her voice is astonishing & the "male dog's" singing/acting voices are Incredible! Feel very honored to be able to watch this in 2024.
No wonder I like Peggy Lee's voice so much. all these years I had no idea she sang my favorite Disney tune. Kinda discovered her from the Uturn sound track.. "It's a Good Day". The voice we all know.. but can't think of the name..ha Beautiful voice that made beautiful music.. I often wonder were she might have fit in if she had been born in the 60's. She would've ruled the 80's.
Great documentary, thanks! I knew he's had a big bunch of detractors, but I can't imagine the world of fantasies without Disney. I and many others made ourselves artists thanks to him. I am even surprised Disney was able to show the people about the way he worked, showing his artistic team and even the storyboards hangin' on the wall. This nowadays is a State Secret between artists
is that walt disney singing? it really does look like him. what a musical voice and animated face. XD i really admire how much heart everyone put into this, and at the same time, it looked like everyone was having fun together. what i'd give to see today's animation crews do the same thing.
I never knew it was Peggy either! I love it even more now. I wish the dog was looked a bit more like a diva, but they're in a junkyard so actually the image fits well.
Lady and the Tramp is one of my favorite movies and love to see clips like this telling of the making of this movie and all the Disney films. Thanks for sharing this!!
This song is still one of the best just like the film among the cartoons!! Very nice story! One of the real Walt Disney's best creation :D Thank you so much for this experience, it makes me remind my childhood.
That was Mr. Thurl Ravenscroft, whom you might know as the original voice of Tony the tiger and you might know him as the voice of Kirby the Vacuum from the Brave Little Toaster movies.
wow i have the records with all theses songs !! its like 30 years old... lol... time to replay them for nostalgia... didnt know she did this .. shes a natural...
In her autobiography she claims she was the one who convinced Walt not to kill Trusty at the end.
Well. Trusty is a charming old dog. In the end she did the best for that character.
my heart would have been broken if he died
His wife helped too.
in the 1953 book , Trusty did die. Granted , in the book, Trusty had a bit more depth to him, and his death played an important part in the Tramp's character development. It was the right thing to do in the end. Plus, this brought more love for Trusty.
Not even Peggy Lee can help smiling at her doggy singers.
im surprised Peggy Lee kept a straight face due to those entertaining and funny backing vocalists! and I wonder how many outakes it actually took because they must have been LOL all the time!!
OMG HI
It was hilarious but the backup singers seem to be recorded and filmed separately.
shouts out
Talent
wooow, those men doing the dog noises. that sounds EXACTLY like 4 dogs singing and howling along!!!
+mileycyrusfan197 they were playing those dogs in the movie
mileycyrusfan197 they are literally doing the voices for the dogs
Fuun
They are Thurl Ravenscroft and the Mellomen. Thurl also sang "the Grinch" and was the voice of Tony the Tiger.
turbocon86 don't forget the broken statue in the haunted mansion
I love it how she keeps looking over the back up singers like 'What the fudge?' (:
Your comment made me hyperventilate due to laughing xD
@@BeruBeruIce hahaha yes!!!

I have followed the work of the Mellowmen when they worked for Jack Benny.
He also did the voice of Kirby the vacuum from "The Brave Little Toaster" movie. :)
SchmoozeMinkey actually your thinking for the sportsmen
Peggy Lee is so talented, she even played as Lady & Tramps Owner! She played the beautiful voice of the wife.
Yea I liked the wife s voice
Dequadre Walton Same here. When i was a child I thought her voice was an angel.
+Miss Lily She also spoke for the two Siamese cats Si and Am (''We are Siamese if you please ...'')
Ms lily u sure your not an angle and if u are can u be mine could u be mine
La La luuu, La La Luu
Peggy had the most beautiful voice. We need more like her.
Those men were very talented voice actors. Great dog sounds, great singing, great singing AS dogs..... :D
I'm pretty sure Peggy is trying to keep a straight face lol
Yeah.
from some angles, she really looks similar to Marilyn Monroe.
You mean that, from some angles, Marilyn looks like Peggy -- since Peggy was around long before Marilyn. :)
Rumor is Marilyn Monroe was supposed to be the voice of Snow White but she didn't want to be in a cartoon.
@@nickyoung630 Marilyn didn't had a career when Snow White came out. Marilyn was a kid
@@yourlivingdeadgirl4538 oh, I had herd that somewhere but I guess it was wrong
I have no idea how she manages to not be laughing with her her chorus of man-dogs. You hear her almost giggle at one part in the chorus near the end. She's so calm, cool and collected!
Peggy Lee was stunning! IDK how she kept a straight face with all those guys barking and howling, that would have cracked me up so fast
That's what you call a proffesional
I don't think that the background singer's facial expressions will ever cease to amuse me.
The men doing the Crooner dogs are hysterical! It's great to see Peggy Lee sing, I love her. Especially her distinctive voice, its so seductive!
the Mellowmen did a great job with those dogs
RIP PEGGY LEE!!! You were a foxy lady
I've been laughing at boom boom boom ruff since I was a child
It's so great they recorded the making of it. Showcases the pure talent these actors had and presents their passion for it.
Her voice is so cool and timeless. So effortless. I love it!
Bro the face expressions of the guys barking I can’t stop laughing at this video. But I love Peggy lee her voice is so good ❤️
peggy was one of the most beautiful ladies of the 20th century, she was sexy, classy, lovely and talented!
Why is this on the Billie Eilish Coachella 2019 playlist?
Idk, that's how I found this video
Haha idkw but that’s how I found this.
Idk 😂
XD
Yeah, why?
My Grandpa was madly in love with her and my daddy is telling me the story of Peggy Lee. We just bought Peggy Lee's Greatest Hits on Amazon. I freakin' love her. So classy and elegent.

In my imagination, I’m in a dark lounge smoking a cigar and drinking 30-year old scotch listening to Peg sing this

Yes old Disney films are wonderfully nostalgic
Can you imagine coming home from work and someone asking what you did today..."I recorded a song for Walt Disney today..." What a life!!
Disney has single-handedly kept the little bit of childhood wonder I had alive thanks Disney
Press 5, and repeat!
Peggy Lee's voice and herself are beautiful. Real genuine vocals, nothing sounds better.
I wish there were more songs like this today :) Peggy Lee
that's some talent right there!
The guys making the dog sounds are fantastic
Really a funny song.I like the men doing dog singing.Peggy Lee is really multitalented
"Quite a Gay Dog with the Ladies.." .. Er.. wow.. that's.. quite an interesting combination!

its a shame no one tries to sing like this anymore. she's too good
wish people still sung and sounded like this , sounds lovely
Peggy had an amazing voice !! Herb
What a voice! Why don't we have singers like her around anymore? :(
The man who they always close up on is Thurl Ravenscroft. He was the voice of Tony the Tiger and also sang you're a mean one mr grinch
Yes! And he’s actually singing high here.
I love this song so much; this movie has such excellent music ^_^ Peggy Lee was so right for that scene, and I'm glad her voice is immortalized for children in Lady & the Tramp!
You can kinda see her trying not to laugh at the guys doing the dogs
I love the classic disney songs / singers. They had such raw talent, unlike a lot of today's artists.

Disney used to be managed by artists, now it's run by predatory financiers and branders whom we've failed to restrain.
She made a wonderful canine-flirty tail and all-singer!
