    Whimsical is the perfect word for this, Jeff! So spring-like and cheery too 😊

    Jeff, that is such a pretty spring mix and I really love the container. It gives such a woodsie vibe. I agree, you could put some fairy garden figurines to add a whimsical touch. ☺❤

      It was difficult not to put some tiny toad stools in there, but knowing it would take me 20 minutes to even find where I put them kept me from going overboard.

    Yay, your on a roll! Oh you can put some Easter eggs in there for Easter! Or maybe not. Very pretty! Thanks Jeff for some ideas💚🙃 I don’t know why but I can’t keep Gerbera daisies alive💚🙃

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! I'll be adding some eggs in it for sure! Gerbers can be tricky sometimes. I've noticed I do best with them when I don't baby them and only water when I'm certain they are starting to dry.

    Yay! Spring is here! This is the first planting up a planter video I've seen! Hey Jeff, what is the trick to gerberas? I can never get them to keep blooming. Once the original flowers and buds that came with the plant are done, I never get anymore blooms.

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh they love to do that! The joys of greenhouse forced flowers. Typically giving them plenty of sunshine with cool weather should keep them blooming. Helps to remove old flowers once you see them starting to fade as well.

    I'm on standby right now because I'm moving to a new house next Friday and it has a big garden already established, so I feel bummed that I have to hold off on doing anything, but also really excited to see what pops up at the new house!

    "this metal whatever it is"
    it's technically a trough.
    I don't do much with seasonal planters anymore, I mostly plant some single focal perennial and stuff in some flowers around the base and replace them when they burn out (mostly dianthus because they are small and last a long time here). I used to plant out pansies and johnny jump ups in the spring because there wasn't much available where I was in Ohio early in the year.

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha! Every year I say I'm not going to do spring planters, and then I make a few just because it helps get me through until it's warm enough to get the tropicals outside. It's so brown and ugly here in the winter and early spring, any bit of color goes a long way. Oh dianthus! Another fragrant plant I love to have around. Shockingly I have some from last year that survived the winter in a hanging basket.

      @@TropicalPlantParty I always liked the hardy carnations up north. That spicy smell they give off, poofy flowers and the silvery foliage, what more could you want?

    Hi Jeff! Your planter and flowers are beautiful! I love the choices you made. I have an ice bucket like that that I bought at Wal-Mart, too, and I put bulbs in it. I'm hoping they come back this year. In fact, I'm considering buying another one to put some misc. bulbs in and some annuals, similar to what you did. I like the idea of adding violas and alyssum. Once the bulbs are done, couldn't I just plant the annuals above them? The bulbs I have should come back every year, especially if I remember to add mulch. ;-) I have some violas that come back every year, and they seem to seed themselves and come up in quite a few places. I love them and call them "happy faces" because they make me smile every time I look at the flowers. In fact I have some that bloomed all winter in my raised beds. I went to a garden center today, Zamzows, and bought some raised bed garden soil, compost and Thrive,(my daughter and sister swear by it). I'm wanting to get an earlier start then usual to get the raised beds ready and my flower pots. I definitely have the itch to get outside! Thank you so much for sharing! Hi Toby! He's such a sweetheart!

    Hi Jeff, could you do a video on getting freesia to bloom? I bought some last week and there is next to no information out there. I don't plan on bringing the bulbs indoors, I just want it to bloom as an annual, zone 7A. Thanks!

    • @TropicalPlantParty
      @TropicalPlantParty  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there! Freesia need a long start and cool weather with plenty of sunshine. They take about 100 to 120 days to bloom from when the corms were the planted. Rule of thumb is to get the corms started months (100 to 120 days )ahead of when temps over 90F will be happening. I believe the formula for when to plant is to count two weeks forward from your last frost date, and then 3 to 3.5 months backwards, and that's when they need to be planted. For me, they need to be started indoors in January and moved outside when chances of frost are gone and they can get plenty of sun and cool weather.

      @gardeningjunkie2267 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TropicalPlantParty Thank you so much. I had them in a warm basement pre-sprouting and have already moved them outside. Hopefully it'll be enough to get them to bloom anyway but if not I'll try again.
