I don't live in London, but even as a frequent visitor, I can tell you you're dead wrong about the weather. In my experience, the trick is to always wear layers. That way, you can easily accommodate whatever the city throws at you. You can genuinely experience 3-4 seasons in a single day in London, which is why you always need to have 3 essential items with you - sunglasses, an umbrella and some kind of outer layer (a sweater or a coat). If you also put on a pair of comfortable closed-toed shoes, you're going to be fine.

As a London-based person I must strongly agree, specially sunglasses are absolutely necessary all year long.

Living in Brittany (France) at close to the same Longitude-Latitude as ya'll and layers are key. Way too many times a friend of mine was trapped by the ever changing daily weather here. That's the Atlantic Ocean / Celtiq sea / Channel climate for you : cloudy at 8 am, sunny at 11 am, and pouring rain at 2 pm.

I live in brazil, more specifically são paulo and being a fashion enjoyer is pretty difficult even here where we have some months where the weather cools down. 90% of the time is 25°C or higher and you can't wear any cool jackets or layers without getting really hot, and this is just where i live, in hotter cities like salvador or rio de janeiro the weather is so unbelievably hot that you cant even wear black and/or wear socks.

I dunno if I'm over explaining things people already know. The circle thing that Kawakubo did has a lot of meaning in Japan. The circle is called Ensō and some think it can be the deepest expression of a calligrapher because of its simplicity. Its minimalism shows every flaw and thus its illustrator. To me, in that context, she was saying "don't ask me, ask the work".
Look at me, ma. I'm overanalysing a sassy answer from a Japanese avant garde fashion designer!

Summer for me is lots of linen, lace-up espadrilles, & panama hats.
It's also a great time for aloha shirts & other camp collars, all the shorts (especially high-waisted & shorter than 7"-inseam), graphic tees, baseball caps, neckerchiefs (if cotton great to soak & wear to cool down), & fanny packs (since less jackets/coats).
Not to mention lighter-weight jeans/jumpsuits/overalls & boots (also a lot of fun with shorts).
Lastly depending on plans swimwear & exercise clothes.
Point being with such garments creating a large variety of looks is easy as it is with any other season.

I live in Montréal and I have such autumn envy. We have distinct seasons, but the fall and spring are so short. It is either freezing or sweltering here. In January on average it is a good 20 degrees farenheit colder here than New Yorl. I always see people posting beautiful layered outfits from Stockholm, London, New York etc.. but winter here is just survival mode where after 4 months it feels like you are trapped in a puffy coat prison.

*YOU CAN NOT CONVEY ON SCREEN* the weight, drape and hand [feel] of fabric. I buy a LOT of vintage fabric, I buy it on line and I buy a lot of sh!t. I also buy a LOT of utterly stunning fabric.
Even when you have 10 pictures of the fabric and closeups - it has to be in your hand. Now magnify that by a whole outfit. Clothes are dynamic kinetic items you need to see them move and you need to touch them.

I think one of the biggest reasons I can’t fully immerse in Minnesota culture is our regional style. It’s not bad here, especially in Minneapolis, people spend a lot of money on their outfits and style, but the output is all the same: khaki, denim, flannel, Chelsea boot, fleece, sweater, etc. While individual style definitely exists, I’ve just noticed how boring the majority of people dress here, everyone wanting to blend in to this lumber/tech crossover that I just don’t love

I love Summer clothes, and they get a good wearing here in Sydney. I love cotton, and swimwear. And well cut big white shirts and beautiful lightweight jackets and sandals. Loads of jewellery. Good quality hats! Can't stand that whole winter gazillions of layers thing. I went to New York in winter once and I hated the way everywhere was over heated so you'd have to almost completely strip off to go into a store, then pile it all back on 10 minutes later when you left.

Coming from a cold ass country I couldn't disagree more with the title question. Summer is the ONLY time of year when you can wear what you _want_ to look good and not what you _have to_ to not die.
I have a Canada Goose just like that, forest green, got it 10-11 years ago. It looks good, but when you all but have to wear that more than half the year you KINDA tire of the silhouette. Good luck showing off any cool shirts, they'll always be covered by a sweater and/or jacket. Cool shoes? Forget it, they get dirty and destroyed immediately. Summer is the GOAT.

London: it’s not that it’s only sunny a couple of times a year, it’s that the whole of the UK is unpredictable. it’s not unheard of to go to the beach and bring an umbrella because all the weather is happening at once. That said, we do not struggle for summer clothes like people in CA :)

  • @perraplays4126

I think some of the biggest summer problems aren't the looks, but more of the interaction of body and clothing. Nothing sucks more than being a little "hefty" and having to put on a T-shirt, especially coming out of the winter bliss that is a large jacket.

  • @tubaavalon

Yes, I hate summer clothes! Options are so limited, you have to be in semi-decent shape to look good in most of it, and it's really difficult to look chic when you're sweating profusely. My summer wardrobe is very basic with boring silhouettes because I can barely stand the feeling of any extra fabric on me in the summer. Also, so many shorts look dorky, sorry 😂

Where I live most January days are between -20c and -35c so I’m more concerned with avoiding frost bite than fashion. I have winter gear that is fashionable and I really love, but it’s really the only outfit I get haha. We have a really short fall and the spring is miserably disgusting with the melt and rain. i think regional style are super influenced by culture and population more than climate, english people have a lot of regional fabric, london is a huge capital with many cultures historical context and their own creators that will influence the youth. LA people have a specific culture and muses and beauty standards which is really different from other places with the same climate

For me Summer and Winter are equally bad for fashion here it gets cold in the winter so mostly you just weare a big coat and some boots, which both are pretty expensive compared to other fashion items, so mostly you don't to many pieces to choose from.
Spring or Autum you weare more piece and mix them together and actually show some layering. With a big coat it covers up most of the stuff.

If it's not insanely hot, but moderately so, let's say around 26-32 Celsius, I love summer dressing so much. I love linen and viscose, oversized and drapey dresses and tunics, I'm really into the flowy, breathable fabrics and the cult leader kaftan vibes ;) Being able to put on a dress and maybe bring an oversized linen shirt is so freeing. Also there are amazing, voluminous pants for summer! I appreciate the freedom I get physically from not having to layer up more and not always worrying about being cold. Living in Germany btw. Mediterranean summers tend to be like that aswell, hot but with a sea breeze, and that in my opinion is great for dressing. My favorite sweet spot is when I can wear a dress with bare legs and western boots at night ;)

  • @samanthaj2303
    @samanthaj2303 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

I was very worried about summer when I made my seasonal wardrobes but I ended up liking my styles more than other seasons. But I will say it is exponentially harder to dress for summer because the silhouettes and flow of clothing pieces have to be way more exact. You can't hide things as much with layers (although I do think an element of Layering can help with heat). But also it's soooooo hard to find shorts in specific silhouettes.

Yo when did fashion shows turn in to a media spectacle?
In Copenhagen there's this more than 100 years old department store (Magasin) that have a tiny museum with their history (and sometimes other danish fashion exhibitions).
This lovely lady told me how back when they tailored the clothes inhouse, they went to Paris fashion shows, but at that time it was pretty much trade secrets and absolutely no photos was allowed, so after the shows they ran out and made drawings of everything they could remember for "inspiration" lol.

It's interesting to think about how dependent my personal style is on the weather I'm accustomed to. Like to me I don't feel dressed up unless I have a few layers on. Walking out in just a tank top and shorts on a hot summer day makes me feel so out of my element

I also deteste to my highest limit all the "light and airy" pieces with stripes and other things that they like to sell everywhere, if it's supposes to allongate the body I haven't had much success unless a circus tent is what I'm going for (it's not but someone with a better eye and belly could maybe pull it off). And it's damned if you do and damned if you don't, you get to be either a too comfortable little scandal walking around in what will be your next sunburn pattern, or you will stain and stink everything you own. I love fashion but IDGAF about all these rules about layering and ish... Being comfy is #1

Most people dress normal in Tokyo and other parts in Japan.

I feel like most people dress normal everywhere 🤔 otherwise, it wouldn’t be called “normal”. But those who do dress crazy in Tokyo are, in my opinion, the best-dressed people who dress crazy 💫💫

For me especially being two-spirit gendered it's difficult on my masculine days to look more structured when it's hot outside. Loose shirts and loose pants are my only option. I wear traditional indigenous clothes and Demobaza alien suits and when it's above 70 I wear T-dresses out of Buckskin I sewed together myself because Buckskin has some structure that maked the shoulders wider and hips narrower with as much waist definition as I want. Plus it flattens my chest. So I love Buckskin. It's incredibly cooling and blocks cold gusts yet is barely skimming my skin. The perfect original clothing!
