I am an Indian born in Delhi and raised there until I was 10-11 years old. I've mainly lived outside India after that, and now I am back here and I feel SO safe here. I can even go to the store in the middle of the night in my night t shirt and shorts and no one stares or behaves in a weird way.
edit : I live in Noida, but Delhi is equally safe....I've spent a couple of years living in Delhi, prior to moving to Noida , and trust me on this, A girl can wear whatever the heck she wants, they ride bikes, they doll up, they do what they want and It's safe! I know everyone says rapes and crimes against women are prevalent in Delhi but you have to understand the fact that it is a HUGE state, and you can't base your judgement about a whole state or an entire country by the amount of negative news you see and hear!. The news outlets only report tragic stuff, not the positives. The fact is, Having lived in Europe, and the USA, I have seen rapes being reported there, pretty often too, cases of domestic violence as well..just a few days back I stumbled upon a video someone posted on TH-cam, in which a man was hitting and abusing a girl he was with, in the subway with and no one in the metro said a word to him. Since it's Europe, and America, no one talks or bashes these countries much. All I will say is this - Good and bad people exist EVERYWHERE, and rapes and crimes against women is a GLOBAL problem. India being an independent nation of just 74 years ( yes younger than my grandad ) has made a MARK on the world map. It has achieved so much in every field whether it be Space and Science, Medicine, IT, Entertainment, Army and Defense, Gender Equality... I could go on and on. I am so PROUD of my heritage and country as a whole

Being a girl from Middle class family I can proudly say that my father gave me utmost freedom and accepted my decisions and POV everytime I explained. Ha always said one thing that study as much as you want, be independent. Marriage will happen when it has to happen but till then no compromise with your Career. Do job, become independent, earn on your own etc. There are many examples like me not just one. One of my friend is there who is doing MBBS her parents got cut off from the society for almost 2 years so that they can focus on their daughter's studies and exam and I can proudly say that she scored well in boards plus cleared her NEET in first attempt and got the best college. And as parents, they should raise a Human being and not any specific Gender. Pakistan has a long way to go. If they really can't educate their son well then how can we expect they will raise their daughters🤷♀️ but I wish they understand things properly.

Indian women are not just in media or bollywood… they are way beyond that. The idea that women india has freedom to sing and dance and wear diff clothes is a very narrow way of looking at it. Women as workforce in india are in every aspect of life… its beyond freedom its empowerment… yes theres violence, rape, dowry issues… but overall I feel the mindset of next generation has changed… a boy doesnt feel superior to a girl just bc of gender..(for the most part)..
