I know this has been debated a lot, but this upload shows clearly to me that the treble 20 here is smaller than it is in the pdc boards today, the size of the wires aside. So comparing Eric Bristow at his peak with either Taylor or Van gerwen seams unfair.

Eric really was arrogant but very entertaining. I was a kid in the 80’s and Eric was a massive figure in 80’s sport. Darts was huge. Have to say though, my favourite player was wee Jocky. Loved the little fella.

Yeah my parents bought the house I grew up in for £16,500. It was decent, a four bed semi in an OK neighbourhood, but nothing special and it was in Wales, where house prices aren't anywhere near London levels. Also inflation is a lot more than just house prices.

Sure Taylor could bang in 180s for fun and take out some amazing out shots but in an interview or away from the board? BORING. MISERABLE. Never got that with Bristow. Cocky, arrogant and outspoken. A one off. Same reason Eubank was my favourite boxer.
You’re right… Bristow won 1980 and 81, then again in 84, 85 and 86. In 82 Jockey won and 83 was Dellers win. So it was Jockey that broke that run, not Deller.

At 20:20 - £3000 was enough to buy a decent-sized house in 1978? Not in the UK it wasn't. The average house price was around £15K then.
