Catification tip! If you don't want the kitty to sit on plant/that spot, you need to give a 'yes' in addition to the 'no'. For example, the 'no' might be placing rocks/making it a less desire-able spot. But the 'yes' in addition is recognizing that your cat likes to sit in the sun and watch 'cat tv'. You can say 'yes' by placing a cat bed/seat in that area. And/or, maybe a grass bed. This reinforces the 'don't do this', 'do this instead'. It provides an alternate that you like. Just a suggestion. :)
Yes, please more aquariums! As an aquascaper hobbyist, would love to see one of my favorite creators lean into aquariums more. Some aquatic plants are really pretty and when they grow out of the tank, they also flower.
@@MarkHaxify Not a lot of people know it but they do especially when they are being taken care of properly! One famous one is bacopa which is a low maintenance aquarium plant that when it extends out the surface of the water will bud pink flowers.
I really appreciate it! Im honestly surprised u say that bc I’m always hesitant to show this area. I feel like it’s messy and unfinished but you’ve made me look at it differently
@@benjiplant I totally get that! I have a few spots in my home that I've had a hard time getting to really settle into place. It's been really cool as a viewer to watch the evolution of this zone in your home. I think what I'm loving so much here is that the transitional nature of the shelf right now feels deliberate in a way to my eye in this video. It's styled in such a way that the growth and change and incorporation of some displayed tools and elements feels like a beautifully curated "workbench" display in a way. But as always, keep tinkering as you are inspired to do so! There's magic in every rendition
Calmness and peacefulness describe every video you make, and I love it. Keep up the great content; it is very inspiring, and hopefully, one day, when my channel grows, I will buy as many plants as you. 😂
My favorite plant of the video was definitely your compost-revived ficus elastica. Not only was it almost composted, but it bounced back beautifully, was sculpted to near perfection, and then graced with an heirloom pot and a sensible top dressing. I have a few plants like these - where you decide to chuck them, then decide against it, and suddenly they bounce back better than ever before. And you find yourself falling in love with them!
I love your cissus (21:20). It was popular in Poland in 70s and 80s. My grandparents had a massive cissus in their living room. They eventually gave it to my aunt, she cut it, repotted it and it's been growing ever since. She gave me a few cuttings of it and I've fallen in love with this plant. Thank you Benji for uploading this video on Sunday. It gave me some peace of mind before a tough week ahead of me. 🪴☀️
You’re such a great curator of your plant collection! And I audibly gasped at the money tree because of the beautiful vignette you’ve created! Can’t wait for a tutorial on the bend and snap of plants!
Beautiful plants and decor. Enjoyed the update. Winnie is so adorable. She could use a cat tree or some cat shelving in a sunny area that she knows is hers. Cats love that, and it keeps them out of SOME of the mischief. Lol
on my 3rd year of the hobby and im glad your vision has poured into me, downsizing and really styling and focusing on the plants that make me happier. love the content as always.
She needs her own bed in the sun! She’s possibly a chair level cat so I’d make it about as high as a chair, unless elsewhere you’ve noticed she prefers to be up high or in the floor. Kitties need a specific spot everywhere people spend time, so they can feel like they’re a part of the family, and most cats need a window bed and a shade bed in every room, as well as a place to sorta hide where no one can bug them. Aldo for the sake of your furniture, put different types of scratchers near every nap spot bc cats like to scratch and stretch after napping. Keep water separate from food and give her 2 litter box options, making sure litter isn’t near the food or water and that will preemptively handle most behavioral issues people see with cats. After you replace her hang out spot by the window (she _may_ be using the soil to keep cool, although cats tend to prefer temps a few degrees warmer than humans) then you can try pine cones on the plant soil or if you’re desperate, aluminum foil. Just be sure not to swoop in and remove her favorite spots as she’s acclimating to her new home. Cats respond much better if given a more attractive alternative option first.
A little cat tip! Begin asap with training Winnie to go outside/on the balcony with harness/leash if that is what you plan on doing, better when they are young :). And thank you for the video, beautiful tour!
Calm and inspiring plant vid as usual; so beautiful to see your months long pieces come to fruition with the bent ficus and kokedama. The little plant tool vignette at 21:30 literally made my jaw drop! Your thoughtful and intentional eye continues to amaze me. So grateful for your presence on here.
We trained out two cats (boy and girl litter mates) on the harness and leash. It worked really well. Now they can sit outside on the porch with me all day. They may chase a bird or a squirrel but they come back when I call them. You really do want them to be familiar with your yard just in case they ever get out by accident!❤
If you're trying to dissuade winne from digging and sleeping in the plant pots... give her one (or two) all her own. Pot, soil, top dressing. Then temporarily (or more) put jagged stones in the pots with the plants. Just the ones she has access to. There are also enzymes that can be purchased to spray on areas you don't want her to get into .You could place a winne pot in the sunny corner. Then put another one in a shady corner. Maybe under something. Cats love caves. They also love heights. Look up cats and wall platforms.
Hi Benji!!👋🏾 I love gardening and plants in general! I just want to say I've enjoyed your calm, peaceful, grounding and insightful videos for sometime. My favorite time to watch is early morning on a rainy day with a hot cup of coffee. ☕️ 🕊 🪴 😊
I love how your ficus looks with the bends in it. Very nice in that tall pot with the curtain behind it. Everything in your home is pleasing to the eye!
Thanks for always posting amazing plant content Benji! I first got into plants 3 years ago thanks to you -- and can't imagine life without being surrounded by them now! They just add so much life and character to a space, and I love your curations!
I really love how you made the Ficus curl around. I can’t wait to see how you did it. I have a giant Ficus that I brought from Boston to Florida 28 yrs. Ago . It was a house plant and I put it outside and now it’s more of a tree.❤ thank you for sharing.
Love what you've done with the fireplace area! The shelves, lighting and your creative displays like the plant tools gallery wall really brought the area to life. My favorite plant was the cissus.
The cat looking at your hand like you were playing a game with the plant at 20:16 was so funny to me 😂🤣 love these videos, always so calming, and so many beautiful plants! ❤️
The only thing that has worked for me to keep my cat out of my plant pots is a layer of lava rocks on top of the soil. They're lighter and larger than gravel or pebbles so they don't weigh the soil down as much and they're also unlikely to be used as a litter box which is a risk with gravel or sand!
I enjoy seeing your plants. The ficus elastica with the bends is inspiring! Ive had several in the past & decided I was done growing those until now. I never thought to bend the stems 😮
The platyceriums are my all time favorites. I got into them by watching your videos. I missed seeing them in your videos :) I’d love to have a tutorial on kokedamas (what kind of moss you use for instance) and on ficus bending (and also how to make them branch out). Thanks again for your wonderful videos. So soothing and inspiring.
I don’t know much about plants, but I really enjoy your videos-they’re so calming. You might inspire me to learn more about them. Keep up the beautiful content!
I've never seen staghorn ferns like the ones you showed today! Seeing them looking so alien and sculptural on your mounts - now I want to try growing one 💚
Love ALL your plants and yes, made it to the end. A suggestion for giving Winnie some outdoor time without the leash: I adapted a cheap (thrown out on the kerb and rescued) greenhouse made from metal tubing and shade cloth. I ditched the cover and attached the frame to the balcony window (or door in your case) with zip ties then covered it with chicken wire, rigging a door that opened onto the balcony for people but not the cat. It was light enough to move to one side if I didn't want it in the way, but quickly able to be attached in place to the door frame or window and made immovable for the cat using the zip ties or a few elastic hook straps (occistraps here). The cat could lie on the balcony in the sun, or climb onto a shelf and see the local wildlife, but couldn't climb out or get to the birds. She could come back inside when it was too hot.
I definitely enjoyed this video! And i wanna share something: I've been following you for quite some time and you impress me every time I watch! Before this summer, my classes were very busy, so even though I wanted to grow plants, I did not have the courage (also, I did not know what to grow in a small house), but I decided to buy seeds a few days ago.
