Well the problem is that actually bass clarinet is ALSO a so called great alternative to tenor sax and it's in the same key. Plus, sadly, clarinet makers make much better quality bass clarinets...
This deserves more views. Glad I clicked on it. You must be a true musician to make such wonderful music with such an unpretentious instrument. Wish I had your talent.
This has quickly become my second-favorite instrument, right after the harmonica. I guess I like underdogs, but I struggle to see what problem anyone has with the gorgeous sound of the alto clarinet. What a beautiful timbre! What sonorous low notes it possesses, full of character.
The alto clarinet in E flat, the basset horn in F, the tenor saxophone, the low C bass clarinet in B flat & the low A baritone saxophone make a good quintet
Not sure what you mean by tuning, but anyway, I play mine with the neck out about 4 millimeters. Mouthpieces are also quite problematic for Alto clarinets. I use adapted Alto sax mouthpiece. I heard J & D HITE is suppose to be good aswell.
@@mudcrock Thanks, yes I meant how you manage to sound so stable tune-wise, cause I struggle to stay in tune! And yes I´ve read the same... I just got a Yamaha C40 mouthpiece which should be some help.

Somebody mentioned alto clarinet is a tenor sax alternative? Sorry everybody, tenor saxophone has NO ALTERNATIVES. Nothing comes close, nothing comes even remote.
@@ChickenWingnut Both Alto Sax and Alto Clarinet are transposing instruments; that means, when note "C" is fingered on both, that note sounds like Eb on the piano, not like C on the piano. But let's go back at Tenor sax:, the ranges of the Alto clarinet and Tenor saxophone overlap; Tenor sax range fits inside the Alto clarinet range, and that is why someone suggested an Alto clarinet can replace a Tenor sax. In theory, perhaps. However, Tenor saxophone is a totally different instrument, with its own tone quality and expressiveness. Tone harmonics are different because sax is a conical instrument, whilst clarinet is a straight tube. No chance Alto clarinet can successfully substitute Tenor saxophone.

I don't understand the reason why it is so unusual. It's a fantastic alternative to the tenor sax. A wonderful tone.
And you play it GREAT !!!

this is the first time i've ever heard an alto clarinet in my life and wow it's so cool!
If you like this instrument, italian Gianluigi Trovesi is a master of Alto clarinet.
Beautiful low tenor notes & beautiful mezzo-soprano notes in the bridge part of the song.

I'm from Slovenia.
Can you tell us the equipment you are using ? Almost looks like a Bundy logo from here. MPC ? Reed ? Well played Sir ....
Clarinet is leblanc. mouthpiece: Meyer jazz for Alto sax( modified), Reed :dadario select jazz.
@@mudcrock Ahhhh Leblanc... no wonder it all sounds so good. Don't know much about those other variables.

I think it plays in the key of Eb so it would rather play like an alto sax right
