  • Hello, welcome to DA_Garage. I'm taking everyone through a brief yet in depth tour of Nissan's 350z. I'll be going over several points such as history, specs, performance numbers and common issues. Some of the images I used are from a simple Google search - all rights to their respective owners. Majority of the footage is my own. I hope you all enjoy the video and learn something new!

    A very fair and informative video. As you listed the faults I yelled YES to a few of them. 🤣 To replace one of the crankshaft position sensors I had to lay on the engine … so not so simple a fix. 🤣
    In Australia we had the choice of Touring or Track. I snagged a Daytona Blue 2003 Track with original Rays Engineering wheels. The picture at 1:07 is just like my baby; I reversed this photo for my screen saver to make it RHD. I’ve had it for 11 years and will never sell it. ❤️🚙

      Dang, that sensor sounds like no fun. Sorry it was such a pain for you! I personally haven't had to experience that issue, so I figured it wouldn't be too bad. Your Z sounds gorgeous. I wouldn't ever sell it either!

    Great review! Had a track version in 2003, owned that car for about 4 years. In 2019 I purchased a mint condition 2005 anniversary model that is a weekend toy. Although our daily drives are new high end European cars, I absolutely adore the 350z, It still puts a smile on my face every time. It will always be a special car for me. Cheers From Brisbane

      Now days the 350z is getting a bit older, it's not as fast or fancy as new cars, but I think it'll always be a fun, analog, true drivers car.

    • @da_garage383

      Personally I'm not a huge fan of body kits because they don't serve much purpose other than appearance and to make it look good - have it fit professionally and painted costs a few thousand dollars. If I had a few thousand to spend, I'd buy go fast parts! :)

      Basic maintenance goes a long way on allowing the car to run optimally as well as proloning it's life. You don't have to do anything extensive - check the wheels, tires and hubs. Clean air filter, oil and timing chain plus water pump. Timing chains are improtant to be aware of on these Z's. The guide rails tend to wear quickly.

    This car definitely needs someone who can do minor work. Here is what will fail and you will need to do every couple years.
    Window motors fail.
    Camshaft position sensors.
    Control arms.
    Plastics will scratch.
    The driver seat side will wear out if no seat cover is used.
    Convertible model needs motor replaced, possibly top.
    The motor is solid but car needs solid maintenance.

    It was funny that you said it was not a comfortable car. I actually bought mine
    because the seats were the only ones that didn't irritate my back. I have
    spinal issues and for what ever reason, the ergonomics of my 2004 base 350Z
    actually make me feel better and it eliminates most back pain. Where as in other
    cars and SUV's my back and neck end up always aching after about 30 minutes or more.
    The car does have a stiffer suspension then regular sedans or SUV's but
    I find it's lack of wallowing and roll easier to deal with. Also find the hatch back
    setup nice for carrying stuff like a gym bag, range bag or rifle case. You'd be surprised
    at what and how much can fit in the back. Plus I like that I was able to
    get a manual transmission since I have had nothing but trouble with automatic
    transmissions in cars I have previously owned.

    • @Psythik
      @Psythik 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. I also have spinal issues, and the 350Z is the first car I've driven where I didn't miss the lack of lumbar support. The stock seats are *extremely* comfortable and the seating position is ideal. Getting in and out is another story, lol

In fact the seats and driving position I have in those cars are why I bought them. But being almost 70 I do get some funny looks when I park and get out of either car. Also, both cars are 6 speed manual shift. Not a fan of automatics since I have never had a car with an automatic transmission that did not have the transmission die before 100K miles.

    • @da_garage383
      @da_garage383  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The tires on an car like this wear out quickly because the compound is softer, so yes that's true and a cost to be aware of. As far as insurance goes there's several variables to how much it'll cost such as your gender, age, driving history and what type of insurance you get. Mine was cheap because at the time I was 25 and had a spotless driving record and I only went for liability (Which I don't recommend!) I was paying about $50 per month. If I went full coverage it would easily double that. So, full answer is it depends... Short answer is yes it'll be more expensive than something plain like a 2005 Civic.

    • @da_garage383

      That price seems slightly high, but only slightly. You should be able to talk him down a few hundred $$$. The insurance price will depend on your age and driving history and it can vary a lot. Good driving record and over 25, insurance will be cheaper. Spotted driving record and under 25 is going to get expensive. Also depends on if you get full coverage or liability.

      @@trippydippy4119 it's hard to say what's going to be cheapest to insure because of so many variables. The mx5 possibly is the cheaper option to insure, however if it's newer your insurance provider might make you have full coverage on it which is pricey. With older cars like that 03 350z you probably won't have to have full coverage. But, I don't know for sure. You'll have to ask your auto insurance provider. Also just a note - insurance companies don't like 350z's because they usually go to young guys that wreck them. Decently powerful, rear wheel drive car in the hands of a young dude is asking for trouble. Haha! But yeah, they're more expensive to insure due to that.

      I decided not to include Grand Touring because it's not exactly a separate trim level from Touring. The only difference between Touring and GT was the GT had an optional navigation system. So, mostly the GT was a marketing scheme to make the car sound much more valuable when in reality there isn't anything better about it compared to Touring. Just a nav screen.

      @@abrahamfrago3728 Technically speaking, still the only difference between the touring and GT was a Nav option. It would be possible to get a touring, then option it with Brembo's and wheels. There can be a lot of variance with all the options.
