    This particular hymn has been laid on my heart this week and even more so this morning. I am so thankful for God's tender mercy and his chastisement when I need correction. May God keep us safe and secure in these troubling times.

    Thanks for sharing this! I am a church musician myself and the composer of tthis hymntune, Lewis Edson, was a relative of my maternal grandmother. He wrote several other hymns that we do to this day.

    If you were going to sing this live in a church, could you sing one part live and have the other parts on CD playing along. Maybe muting one voice and you sing that part live. That would be awesome.

    Well done Michael. Number 340 in "Great Songs Of The Church" by Jorgenson ... that hymn is to a different tune. You did yeoman work on this one. I like the barbershop leanings and the wonderfully long tag at the end. Excellent job!!

    Although I wished there was more of a bass riff in this to balance all the parts. Otherwise, well done.

    His blood ATONED for all our race

    • @MichaelLiningMusic
      @MichaelLiningMusic  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hymnals vary on this line. Others read "his blood was shed for every race," to "his blood was spilled for every race" to "his blood atoned for all our race" to "his blood atoned for every race." I agree with all of them.

  • @jerrybeers2691

    Absolutely magnificent and soul lifting. However, Wesley’s line “My God is reconciled” was intentional, biblical, and powerful theology. I wish you hadn’t changed it.

    • @MichaelLiningMusic
      @MichaelLiningMusic  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I have heard it both ways. What does God need to be reconciled from if He is sinless? That doesn’t make sense.

  • @bmbinney9613
    @bmbinney9613 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I loved your rendition of the hymn...except for the last verse. The original read, "My God is reconciled". Not "I am reconciled".

    • @bmbinney9613
      @bmbinney9613 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I appreciate your answer. I am all for changing the lyrics of hymns that are unbiblical. I too, wholeheartedly affirm the sinlessness of God. I would, however, say that it is not sin to understand that God needed reconciling. We often think of reconciliation as sin, but not in this case. God is the offended person in this instance, His wrath is against us and justly so for our sins deserve His eternal punishment. That is why His wrath needed to be satisfied by the death of Christ and this reconciles God to us. This act is called propitiation.
      The multifaceted aspects of the cross are immense. God the Father, out of His love for His people, sends His own beloved Son to redeem for Himself a people out of every tribe and tongue to bring Him eternal praise. He does this by satisfying His wrath against us, imputing Christ's righteousness to us and adopting us as His beloved children. This is reconciliation.
      1 John 4:9-10
      9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him.
      10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
