Mumbai-Pune Expressway is India's first expressway which was made fully operational by 2002. It is six-lane concrete, access-controlled expressway. It spans a distance of 94.5 km connecting Mumbai, the capital of Maharashtra to Pune, reducing the travel time between them to 2 hours.

This is a very beautiful expressway. Have travelled on it many times. Especially Lonavala stretch is heavenly among western ghats. But sadly very landslide prone too 😞

Indians should learn how to drive no one is giving indicators while changing lane. Also overtake should be done from right side but they are doing from left also

The vehicle at the back, is allowed to over-take from the left, if there is sufficient space to do so. This is common on expressways which has dedicated lanes and ample space.

Bro but all vehicles must be driven from left lane rightest lane is for overtake!
We are forced to overtake from left. Because other slow drivers including trucks are driving on the right lane. This must be changed.
i remember back in 2001 when i used to do mumbai pune pretty frequently with my parents the expressway was so deserted and very less traffic was there, u couldnt see any other vehicle for kms and also the toll fare was just 60/- and now look at the condition its full of traffic and feels more like a city road rather than a expressway
It was new and get ready for other news expressways to gets more traffic flow as months after a after competition of an expressway like Delhi Mumbai expressway which will be completed by January 2023.
If every vehicle maintains the speed and drive in their respective lane, there isn’t much to worry about volume of vehicles on the road.
As he mentioned, the expressway has the capacity of 100k vehicles and daily 43k use it.
Great expressway. Mr. Nitin Gadkari was the visionary behind the expressway. Pune's rapid development is also due to this expressway. Hope Mumbai - Nagpur Super Expressway is also this good.

Incredibly important infrastructure improvements under current indian government for sure ..
I remember I was in school before this Expressway open. My native place is near Satara thank you to take 10 to 12 hours from Mumbai to Satara. And then one day suddenly Mumbai Pune express Highway opened in 2002 and also simultaneously Pune bypass Opened. And when I was in college, I used to reach village in just five hours. Now I have a car and I happily pay the toll because it’s just worth it. Just as Mumbai locals, this expressway has become part of life. But I will give you one advice. If you’re travelling in monsoon, then take the old Highway because it is so very beautiful. Start on the express Highway, exit at sheding, Travel on the old highway.

Earlier, this Pune - Mumbai NH (now Express High-way) was part of NH-9 from "Mumbai to Vijayawada"..
After completion of this 'Express High-way'.. Mumbai - Vijayawada NH-9 split into 'Two NHs' i.e 1)Pune - Mumbai (Express High-way)
2)Pune to Machilipatnam (extended from Vijayawada to Machilipatnam for another 70KMs and calling as NH-65)..

Ahmedabad - Vadodara National Expressway - NE 1 was the first expressway to be sanctioned by NHAI , but Mumbai - Pune Expressway was the first to be completed and commissioned.

Many of the users might not be aware of the rules about how to drive on Expressways. Govt should make awareness among the people about the rules on Expressways and all driving test must include questions about expressway rules..
The people in India don´t know how to drive with discipline and they don´t respect lanes and only thing they know is to blow the horns all the time. We should definetly start to teach the people how to drive with discipline and respect. If he/she does not know no driving license and the rules and laws must be very very strict
