- WE’RE GOING TO WALMART FOLKS. haven’t dressed up for a show in SIX MONTHS, so even if I live in the Ozark Wild it was high time to get back in my party pants and sing this classic of the yodel canon. As a teenager I used to belt this song out so often that my English teacher accused me of having Tourette’s syndrome, rather than correctly identify it as “country music fever”. Hank recorded this beloved version in the 1950’s, but this was originally a song in a musical in 1922, recorded most famously back then by Emmet Miller, a blackface performer. Confronting this unfortunate motif in country music is important, and I like to think this fact shows us how far we’ve come, even if there’s plenty left to do. Hank sr. Is my favorite musician so I'm normally disappointed when someone covers his songs but this is fantastic! I bet hank would be proud!
Although Hank Williams made this song famous in the 1940s it's a cover already. The original is probably by blackface artist Emmet Miller who performed it in the 1920s

@@strings1586none of Emmett Miller's music uses derogatory slurs, anyways most that know country music before Hank, pretty much calls Jimmie Rodgers the father of country music but being a real honest it was really The Carter family and Roy Acuff the ultimately put country music on the map

Probably the BEST cover of one of my favorite Ole Hank songs. In June I got to fulfill one of my lifetime dreams, I got to go to Montgomery, Alabama and visit the Hank Williams Museum and go to the cemetery and visit and pay respects to Hank’s grave.

It’s extremely hard for people to do a Hank Williams cover and it get noticed. All the older musicians I talk to hate when folks cover Sr. and then I send them Nick’s way and they love it. Def doing it justice, Neck shoulders, I mean Nick!

I just moved back east to rural Kentucky from Tucson, it's mindboggling what I'd taken for granted when it comes to the hues of green out here
@@traviswest8644 desert has its own beauty but it's definitely not that green. If you're looking for grass that lives on its own if you head up towards Payson/Flagstaff/etc you'll get the green - so you can still get your fix (it's the only way I can anyway lol)
I always have to take trips up north to see the green, I love the desert but I neeeeed the green

Wow this takes me back to Saturday night golden oldies on our local radio station!! Sitting round a fire singing along with Johnny Horton, Hank Sr., Patsy cline George Jones Willie Waylon Johnny this music has a heart a spirit of it's own. In a world where music is about as deep as a tea spoon It gives me hope to hear these young artist keeping it going. If we lived in a perfect world Artist like nick, Benjamin Todd, Hill country devil ECT... Would be the real stars of the music scene instead of strippers fed through auto tune.
