@lmm 2200 Nope you are dead wrong. Marvel's comics are better recently.
I at least appreciate how 75% of these are only copycats at first glance and the actual characters are incredibly different
Thanos was pulled from Darksied yet the two could not be any different.
Its like they copied at first but then later became their own characters
@@arkangelgaming35 do not know. I watch so many superhero shit last year, that I start notice any difference even between batman and spiderman. Firestar and Starfire they really weren't trying with the names
I thought Firestar was originally created to replace Human Torch in Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends because Ice Man was already going to be in the show and they decided they wanted at least one friend to be female.
@@ScionStorm1 That and i don't think could explain cosmic rays yet.
@@Va1karius Actually I think that one goes to Frankie Raye as one of Galactus heralds.
Both companies were literally competing each other. Literally. They look at each others comics and write everything down
Actually both companies were hiring the same writers and artist as freelance - so they would end up designing very similar characters and STORYLINE's because it is very hard to keep up with creating new characters and stories.
Also an artist might design a new character for one company and be told great character but bad look so he changes the look for that character but he really likes his orginal image so he sells that look to the other company and they make a similar hero or villian to match the look - which means both companies end up with a new very similar characters.
Captain Marvel v Supergirl.
Carol Danvers v Kara Danvers.
No way that's a coincidence.
I just like how differently they can take these characters, Deadpool and Deathstroke look similar, but are almost complete opposites as to character, tone, and overall application
I mean it's probably the most famous one for copying the characters though. The co-creator of Deadpool Rob Liefeld even admitted it
At first Deadpool was a parody of Deathstroke

And in the case of Man Thing and Swamp Thing, I want to say I remember reading that the guy who created Man Thing and the guy creating Swamp Thing were like roommates or friends or something and the guy who created Swamp Thing alleged that the guy who created Man Thing stole his idea and got it Marvel before he could get Swamp Thing to DC.. or something like that...
Swamp Thing and Man Thing were both inspired by The Heap (1942). The fact that they both debuted in 1971 isn't a coincidence; that's when the Comics Code Association relaxed the restrictions against horror comics.
The creators of each characters were roommates too!
Thw creator of swampthing stold the idea frm his roommate who created man thing. They poblished man thing a month before they published swampthing.

Same with Scarecrow
What a lot of people don’t know and I didn’t know this myself at first but it’s really understandable once you figure out why they’re so many similar if not almost one for one copycats of characters. The first reason is that a lot and I mean a lot of these artists were roommates. For example if I’m not mistaken I think it was Man-Thing and Swamp Thing creators were roommates at the time. And again(if I’m not mistaken) Marvel and DC comics were literally right down the street from each other at one point and time and a lot of the artist and creators would all live together and talk about their projects with each other. Hell, and some said that they would actually purposely make similar characters to see who could I guess make a better character or see who’s character people would like the most. So it was more of a friendly rivalry and it would make creators work harder because they would want to one up their friends so they could have the bragging rights. A second reason was that a lot creators would leave one company and go to the other after so long but couldn’t take their creations they worked so hard on so they’d for the most part just create a character that was just the same as their last character. Like the Phantom Stranger and the Phantom Reporter, now idk if the same person or not created both I’m just using these two as an example. Say that the creator of the Phantom reporter left Marvel and went to DC but people really loved his character so he’d just create pretty much the same character and since comics were made for little boys they usually wouldn’t pay attention that much to it. But if they did they probably just thought he changed some how since his name, and appearance were so close that they couldn’t be different people. And lastly, idk how true this is but I heard that sometimes people would spy for another comic company and then go to the other with information on appearance, powers etc etc and then get paid for said information. Hell, I’ve even heard that some of those quote on quote “spies” were actual employees of the rival comics company, hell some creators themselves from what I had heard lol. But without those types of things going on we wouldn’t have some of the amazing characters that we have now! So to those who did what they did thank you, because without that the industry wouldn’t have been what it is today🙌🏾 lol.

Marvel: fireSTAR

Really Jarvis and Alfred. Are we actually going to be shocked that two ultra rich people have butlers?
Crack Goat but both play a crucial part in assisting their employers who both happen to have dead parents and no superpowers
@@tmaacattack I mean yes but i'd argue that neither character is a unique concept. Plus Jarvis has gone from butler to AI and though this is a more modern interpretation of the character should be taken into consideration.
@@crackgoat9780 the timing of their appearence, their roles, their then-persona, and their aforementioned masters overall a multitude of things imply this commonality. Sure its nothing uncommon, nor these two in question are. But can you name any other butler that made such an impact like Alfred did? Though, Firestar isn't a copy of Starfire.
She was made for Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends to replace Human Torch because they couldn't get the rights to him (think something similar to the Sony/MCU Spider-Man situation).
Basically, Marvel copied themselves because they sold their IP to multiple companies and needed a way to put one character in without reconfiguring the IP.
Here's my take:
Some are definitely copycats, but flash and Quicksilver, Hawkeye and Green Arrow, the butlers, etc. Come on, each universe needs at least one speedster, archer, butler, etc.
@@V_For_Vigilante I'll take that as a really good point
No flash green arrow and Alfred are original
@@zaidvally1742 what I was try to say is each universe needs one of those types of character. I did not mean to confuse, I did not mean to say these characters are 100% copycats. But other characters are definitely copycats as they were in direct response to each other.

Both companies have Scarecrow characters and they look indistinguishable.
DCs Scarecrow is for sure the better and more popular one though

@Metapan but it’s true. D.C. came first not marvel. That is a fact. D.C. came in 1934 Marvel came in 1939. Dc is more original than marvel. That is a fact
@Metapan but how. What ur saying makes zero sense because dc came first. D.C. came in 1934 and marvel in 1939. It’s almost Impossible for dc to have copied marvel
More because dc has had more time. D.C. have ripped a lot of from marvel aswell but marvel has done it more and has done it more blatantly.
@Metapan look if u were to count how many characters marvel ripped from dc in total and how many dc ripped from marvel in total. The amount of marvel’s side would be far greater

Phoenix: telepathy, telekinesis.
Raven: dark magic.
Author: they are similar
Raven is not a magic user in her original incarnation, magic is not even her best ability,it's the soulself which is an essential part of her was underutilized and downgraded, she has telekinesis and telepathy like every one else but nothing like the phoenix ,the soulself is a shapeless void busted with too much extra dimensional energy.
I think they are comparing the character designs in some cases, its also valid in my opinion, but I also think that they added too many DC characters that were rip offs of Marvel characters (Havoc, Gorgon) as Marvel has the Supreme Squadron's universe in the same way,
Also, isn't phoenix from mythology?
The better comparison would be raven and cloak

Raven is half demon with magic and dark magic. Phoenix is basically a celestial goddess. Just because they're women both named after birds means nothing.
True, but the pictures shown in the video pretty much shows the similarities between the two, probably the only similarity.
Corry Jamieson The title says copycats which would mean that one directly caused the other’s existence.
The word also implies that they should have few discrepancies between them.
Raven is a half demon who’s power originates from blood and magic,
Phoenix is a mutant with access to tremendous power via an unrelated entity.
They look completely different due to one coming from Earth and the other from Azarath.
They have almost the polar opposite color scheme where as one is entirely Warm colors due to fire.
While the other is cool colors blues etc. The Raven is an omen of death where as the Phoenix has a never ending life cycle of rebirth.
They are both strong women of great power but other than that they are completely different.

Why did Marvel literally copied Scarecrow? I’m pretty sure the rest have there unique stories and name but Scarecrow is, well still Scarecrow.
I feel like comparing Red Tornado to Vision is a bit of a stretch, they’re both red robots but don’t have similar powers tbh
that and their released publications are literally 2 months apart, with Red Tornado being released in August 1968, and Vision being in October 1968. Publications take longer than 2 months, so to say that Marvel copied DC with that one is probably false. They were being worked on at relatively the same time.
Same goes for other characters on this list who are literally 2-3 months apart (Man Thing and Swamp Thing being a big one). So many people site that as DC copying Marvel, but they're literally 2 months apart, and you can't fully publish a comic with a new character in only 2 months, meaning Swamp Thing was in the works before Marvel revealed their new character. DC couldn't have known about it beforehand unless an ex Marvel writer moved over to DC and told them about it.
For me vision is more similar to Martian manhunter, both in Powers and personality, although they have extremely different origins
@@dasetof I heard Vision can attack with laser and he can dodge with intangible power.
@@huylam3951 Martian manhunter also has laser beams (with his eyes) and can change his density and become also invisible. Raven isn't a copy cat of pheonix, their as far apart from one another as it is.
Numerous N: comics and legos in all fairness, raven and Phoenix have their similarities...they’re both strong empaths, both powerhouses on their team, both more quiet and reserved character personalities, both had a thing for their team leader, both afraid of their full powers, both prone to losing control and going bad, by being taken over by their inner struggles (Phoenix=Phoenix force; Raven=trigon) where both manifest in the shape of a large flying raptor, where both become way more powerful and uncaring of casualties/consequences...yea there’s a lot of differences in plots and storylines, but the base characters are pretty similar
@@maryse4me Thank you. Too many people look at the characters and go but they dont have the EXACT stories and colors so the comparison is invalid. Even someone with no character history can look at their imagedry and see theyre similar in expression.
@@maryse4me had to check if there's an actual obscure character titled Phoenix and not the Phoenix Force/Jean Grey (like X-Man was to the X-Men). Cause otherwise it sounds you're just throwing things at random.
Jean Gray is nowhere as reserved nor outspoken as Raven is in most adaptations, whose treated like an introvert, goth or even mystical. Sure Jean comes off rough at times, otherwise far more standard in interacting with other heroes. Also Phoenix is completely external entity that just happened to find Jean as a host, while Trigon held his daughter as a gateway from the start of her origin, essentially the antichrist stereotype for DC. That leaves only the convenient basis of this argument, their bird motifs, thats the only reason this comparison is made. And thats just idiotic, consifering how many characters there are, even some using birds as projection.
There is hardly any basis behind the other two points either, you cam find any heroes that arent as hammy but also with their secrets anywhere. Saying they're common is like saying saying every anti-hero copycatted Batman cause they are brutal and brooding (and like it or not you can find similarities even outside of ones like Moon Knight or Wolverine), or his billiomare alter ego for heroes like Tony Stark (which btw has much more legit points) for using their money to fight crime.
@@casono there's NOTHING common here that you can find in some other half a ton of unrelated characters, lol. Just both look like birds, lets dig up some common human personality to say they're similar, thats all the argument there is here.
Sharil Shahed Reserved and outspoken are two different things man. “Nowhere near as” the point is that she is and Raven is a character that copies that trait doesn’t matter if she’s “more” or not. Jean Grey is kind and gentle and acts as a sort of mother figure of the group which leads to her being more calm and reserved, Raven may just differ a bit by being goth/mystic/etc. but she still is that calm and reserved member. Doesn’t take one second to realise that Raven’s powers are ripping off the Phoenix Force so what’s the problem here? “Considering how many characters there are, even some using birds as projections” that right there is shitty logic, that just means that either Raven was by those characters who’s powers and likeness were inspired by the first to ever use said powers or Raven copied the first one to jump into the bandwagon
Same argument for why so many DC characters “clearly” aren’t rip offs of Marvel’s, you’re trying to base it off solely on lore and not appearance, likeness, and the fundamentals of the character. If that were the case then literally every single rip off to ever exist isn’t a rip off because they changed the story just enough to avoid a lawsuit. Guess Thanos isn’t a Darkseid knock off cause he’s a Mad Titan and Darkseid’s a New God, get real
When DC and Marvel came out, there was a lot of “I created that” and “that was my idea!” So marvel pretty much made a truce and let DC make its own similar characters without taking it into a legal battle every time and Vice versa. They pretty much decided to “let the better version/man win” instead of losing tons of money in lawsuits
A lot of people don’t know this but image comic’s artist were originally Marvel’s artists. They felt they weren’t being given enough credit and compensation for their work. They approached Marvel with their complaints and Marvel got greedy, pretty much telling them to piss off. BIG MISTAKE.. A good portion of Marvel’s best artists went off together and created image comics(spawn, Invincible) which royal F’d Marvel for a good while. Art quality went down significantly and people were discerned. Because Marvel didn’t respect the people who were creating their comics. When I say quality went down, I mean they had artist who could not even remotely draw their staple characters (like Wolverine, fantastic 4, every one). Signature artwork gone.
Most of Image's "original" books were rip offs of existing Marvel and DC books. The Maxx might've been the only really original series.
Its also a legal nightmare trying to argue to nuance. Like this video shows Quicksilver and Flash as copycat....If that was true any hero that runs fast would be not allowed under copyright? Nah, I think they saw that trying to push it would just make a mess of the law giving them more red tape.
If only Apple had that same mentality.
