Had no idea Cody Simpson was on Broadway. He's now a national swimmer in Australia. It would be very interesting to see him perform in a show here though
In 2018, I was in a local musical production that celebrated the 175th birthday of the Antwerp zoo. I was a background extra, one of hundreds of people that would star throughout the show...on a free basis. And the show was marketed with this as its main gimmick: About 300 or 500 extras on stage in one production alongside local well known actors from stage and screen. Needless to say, I had a blast, as the cast was basically full of actors whom I have adored for a long time and that hasn't changed after closely working with them. But more importantly, it gave me a lot more respect to the people that do musicals, because it's an intense rehearsal period, but oh so rewarding when you're finally on stage.
The first name that came to mind just reading the title of this video is Cameron Dallas… and I unfortunately saw Mean Girls while he was in it playing Aaron and ouch. To put it nicely: it was ROUGH. So rough that every time he spoke or sang I could see audience members around me exchanging “wtf” looks and laughing at how bad it was… I feel bad for the guy and for everyone involved with the production who had to deal with this decision made by producers. It really just was a bad choice all around. On the flip side though I also more recently saw JoJo Levesque as Satine in Moulin Rouge and she was fantastic! can vouch for Ryan as I also saw him in Wicked (with miss laurel!) and he was great! I had the added benefit of not being super familiar with his Disney career so I really didn’t have any high or low expectations. He fit right into that role like a glove ^-^
How about Reba McIntyre in the 2001 revival of Annie Get Your Gun. I don't know if anyone knew what to expect but she killed it - and in fact she should have been nominated for a Tony (but I think the nominators didn't want to nominate someone that was seen as stunt casting.)
This type of video would really benefit from clips for each person they are talking about. For viewers unware of the performances, it leaves them feeling very left out of the conversation.
You could do so many editions of this. Showing my age a little, but Reba McEntire in Annie Get Your Gun, Joey Fatone in RENT, and Sara Bareilles in Waitress all seem like they'd count. This was a fun video idea!
I just stumbled upon this video via the algorithm, so when they did the bit about Ryan's roles, I was like "why is this funny and weird?" I had never heard of him or seen him before, so I didn't realize she was talking about the person sitting next to her😂
keith habersberger (from try guys) playing a mover in beetlejuice was probably better than the performance of cameron dallas. i didn't even know this cameron dude existed. at least i know keith had a little acting experience and had an actual dream of being on broadway growing up. the video they showed on the channel was very emotional video at the end. i do recommend anyone who has dreams of going on broadway to watch it, cause it's so amazing to see Keith do it, nail it, and then the realization of what had happen hit him. it's really wholesome.
i’m not sure of you guys have heard of all of the allegations aginst colleen ballinger at the moment but i agreed with your thought on her in this video until i heard of everything
Hey besties. You should look up what’s happening with Colleen Ballinger right now. There’s some really messed up stuff about child sexualization and grooming that’s come up recently. You might want to cut the bit about her out😅
Cameron Dallas wasn't even at his height of fame when they did that stunt cast tbh. I'm not even a fan but he wasn't known for ages then it's like oh yeah he's in this musical & then it's like oooooh no it's not good.
Okay, good, we’re on the same page about Cody. Anastasia is my favorite show, but nobody had heard his music for years and I think I read they had to bring down the key of “My Petersburg” a little.
This is something that happens in every show in the melbourne theatre district like as in i dont know any shows that dont feature a stunt cast of a random d list australian celeb who was on australian idol or big brother back in the day
I saw jinkx monsoon in Chicago and let me say it was amazing she definitely did not disappoint and I got to meet her afterwards because a friend of my dad played Mary sunshine
Some stunt casting for part 2: Al Roker in Waitress Wayne Brady in Hamilton (Broadway in Chicago but I saw him and he deserves Standing Ovation) Sabrina Carpenter in Mean Girls Carly Rae Jepsen in Cinderella Aaron Carter in Seussical Olivia Holt in Chicago Emma Stone in Cabaret
Stunt casts I wanna see: -Obviously Lea in Funny Girl -Bette Midler in Hello Dolly ( i know she was in the original revival cast, but im sure marketing used her popularity to snag some tickets) -Hugh Jackman in The Music Man (same as Bette, except his being cast carried the whole show, with it closing in January 2023) -Nick Jonas in H2$ -Sara Bariellis in Waitress (even though she ate it up!! HA!!! Pie joke) Edit: Don't know if this is a stunt cast but depending on who you ask, Chris Wood in Almost Famous would be a good contender.
If you need a P2/3 here is a list: Wayne Brady - Hamilton/Chicago Al Roker - Waitress Todrick Hall - Waitress David Cook - Kinky Boots Mel B - Chicago Jason Mraz - Waitress Christina Applegate - Sweet Charity Reba McEntire - Annie Get your Gun Hugh Jackman - Music Man Molly Ringwald - Sweet Charity Cody Simpson - Anastasia Drew Seeley - The Little Mermaid Emma Stone - Cabaret Billie Joe Armstrong - American Idiot Corbin Bleu - In the Heights Joey Fatone - Rent Gaten Matarazzo - Dear Evan Hansen Jordan Fisher - Dear Evan Hansen Sabrina Carpenter - Mean Girls Lea Michele - Funny Girl Nick Jonas - How to Succeed Darren Criss - Hedwig Sara Bareilles - Waitress Josh Groban - Sweeney Todd/Great Comet Carly Rae Jepsen - Cinderella Fran Drescher - Cinderella
Sara Bareilleis literally composed the music for “Waitress”. Hugh Jackman originated in musical theater, and was Australia’s first Gaston. While, Josh Groban purchased the license for the current “Sweeney Todd” revival, and bet on himself.
Ok but what is the line between stunt casting and casting someone who just happens to be very famous? Cos I never saw Daniel Radcliffe as a stunt cast. He was from all accounts very good and it was one of the very first things he did after Harry Potter I always saw it as an actor stretching the old acting muscles
Question... and I'm really not meaning to sound snarky here, but can Daniel Radcliffe really be considered as stunt casting if he wasn't a replacement in the role of JPF for 2011 revival, but was the "original" casting, albeit in a 2011 revival (following a 1995 revival) of a 1961 musical? 😄
A few others for if you make part 2, i can see people already put them in the comments haha. but also half of these idk if i can consider stunt casting, because like corbin, darren and jordan i know first and foremost for musicals, maybe not musical theatre, but it's not a huge leap to make. anyway: Corbin Bleu - In The Heights Jordan Fisher - Dear Evan Hansen Gaten Matarazzo - Dear Evan Hansen (he's a broadway kid so idk if it counts) Darren Criss - Hedwig and the Angry Inch Sabrina Carpenter - Mean Girls (poor girl only got to do 2 shows) Carly Rae Jepsen - Cinderella Ricky Martin - Evita Raven Symoné - Sister Act Lea Michele - Funy Girl ( i mean... i know she's a broadway kid, but this is THE stunt casting, this was done for the gleeks only, to make a meme come to life)
If you do another one what about David Hasselhoff, Jack Wagner, or Sebastian Bach in Jekyll & Hyde. That show had some crazy stunt casting towards the end of the run 😅😅
seeing JoJo in Aquamarine was delightful she is an awesome actresss. she needs another album. Gaten for me is stunt marketing low spectrum. I saw a few shows on the west end they hardly use stunt casting which is cool. i wonder how olivia did/ was in Chicago.

i saw ryan in wicked with jessica vosk and when i say it was some of the best vocals i ever heard-like damn. you guys together were phenomenal.
How about Reba McIntyre in the 2001 revival of Annie Get Your Gun. I don't know if anyone knew what to expect but she killed it - and in fact she should have been nominated for a Tony (but I think the nominators didn't want to nominate someone that was seen as stunt casting.)
She was great, but not eligible for a Tony. Bernadette Peters was the original Annie of that revival and she actually did win the Tony for it.
This type of video would really benefit from clips for each person they are talking about. For viewers unware of the performances, it leaves them feeling very left out of the conversation.
Jinkx did a fantastic job in Chicago whether you were a fan of Chicago or not. It helped that the woman who was playing Roxy was also very very good
You could do so many editions of this. Showing my age a little, but Reba McEntire in Annie Get Your Gun, Joey Fatone in RENT, and Sara Bareilles in Waitress all seem like they'd count. This was a fun video idea!
Would love a part 2! Love when you talk about broadway!
I saw Jinkx and Jordyn Sparks and both were absolutely amazing. 10/10 standing ovation
I just stumbled upon this video via the algorithm, so when they did the bit about Ryan's roles, I was like "why is this funny and weird?" I had never heard of him or seen him before, so I didn't realize she was talking about the person sitting next to her😂
I saw cody and he was good. I wouldn't say he was the best but his voice was obviously good and he showed enough emotion.
I’m surprised no mention was made of Todrick as he was also in the run of waitress with Colleen for awhile and also in Kinky Boots
yes!!
I knew as soon as I heard fiyero, hans was going to be next (idk if I spelt fiyero right)
keith habersberger (from try guys) playing a mover in beetlejuice was probably better than the performance of cameron dallas. i didn't even know this cameron dude existed. at least i know keith had a little acting experience and had an actual dream of being on broadway growing up. the video they showed on the channel was very emotional video at the end. i do recommend anyone who has dreams of going on broadway to watch it, cause it's so amazing to see Keith do it, nail it, and then the realization of what had happen hit him. it's really wholesome.
Please make a 2nd part of this! love you guys❤❤
I saw Moulin Rouge last week, and Jojo did indeed kill "Firework"
Tbh reba McEntire in Annie get your gun is top-tier
Gaten Matarazzo, Sabrina Carpenter, Olivia Holt, Casey Cott, Lea Michele... we can fill a second edition easily!!
I’m gonna need Daniel Radcliffe bumped up to standing ovation please.
You missed: Boy George in Moulin Rouge, Josh Groban in Sweeney Todd, Lea Michele in Funny Girl
i’m not sure of you guys have heard of all of the allegations aginst colleen ballinger at the moment but i agreed with your thought on her in this video until i heard of everything
Where’s the correlation?
Saw Cody Simpson in Anastasia and was definitely surprised by his performance. He was great.
Was this video made before or after the Colleen Ballinger situation came to light?
This was filmed way before.
Hey besties. You should look up what’s happening with Colleen Ballinger right now. There’s some really messed up stuff about child sexualization and grooming that’s come up recently.
You might want to cut the bit about her out😅
What does the drama have to do with anything they said? 🙃
@@TheSkinnyZ just saying that maybe they didn’t know what was going on. Probably shouldn’t praise a child predator as well but that’s just my opinion.
We need a sequel! Also we should talk about Reba Mcentire in Annie Get Your Gun!!
I remember when Wayne Brady got stunt casted for Chicago and I was like “huh. That’s most definitely a choice.”
This is something that happens in every show in the melbourne theatre district like as in i dont know any shows that dont feature a stunt cast of a random d list australian celeb who was on australian idol or big brother back in the day
I had no idea there was a name for this! I loved this video. Such a good idea!!
I saw jinkx monsoon in Chicago and let me say it was amazing she definitely did not disappoint and I got to meet her afterwards because a friend of my dad played Mary sunshine
Some stunt casting for part 2:
Al Roker in Waitress
Wayne Brady in Hamilton (Broadway in Chicago but I saw him and he deserves Standing Ovation)
Sabrina Carpenter in Mean Girls
Carly Rae Jepsen in Cinderella
Aaron Carter in Seussical
Olivia Holt in Chicago
Emma Stone in Cabaret
Ryan is such a FANTASTIC hot bad good guy. Frozen, Wicked, Heathers. Just fucking perfect
They need more jordin sparks on Broadway!! Hamilton plz.
she would have been a great Mimi in Rent. She wold be a great Joanne.
Stunt casts I wanna see:
-Obviously Lea in Funny Girl
-Bette Midler in Hello Dolly ( i know she was in the original revival cast, but im sure marketing used her popularity to snag some tickets)
-Hugh Jackman in The Music Man (same as Bette, except his being cast carried the whole show, with it closing in January 2023)
-Nick Jonas in H2$
-Sara Bariellis in Waitress (even though she ate it up!! HA!!! Pie joke)
Edit: Don't know if this is a stunt cast but depending on who you ask, Chris Wood in Almost Famous would be a good contender.
“That’s where it belongs” underrated reference
If a part 2 were to be made, Lola Tung and Jordan Fischer in Hadestown must be in it too
5:47 we’ll that moment sure aged well…😳
If you need a P2/3 here is a list:
Wayne Brady - Hamilton/Chicago
Al Roker - Waitress
Todrick Hall - Waitress
David Cook - Kinky Boots
Mel B - Chicago
Jason Mraz - Waitress
Christina Applegate - Sweet Charity
Reba McEntire - Annie Get your Gun
Hugh Jackman - Music Man
Molly Ringwald - Sweet Charity
Cody Simpson - Anastasia
Drew Seeley - The Little Mermaid
Emma Stone - Cabaret
Billie Joe Armstrong - American Idiot
Corbin Bleu - In the Heights
Joey Fatone - Rent
Gaten Matarazzo - Dear Evan Hansen
Jordan Fisher - Dear Evan Hansen
Sabrina Carpenter - Mean Girls
Lea Michele - Funny Girl
Nick Jonas - How to Succeed
Darren Criss - Hedwig
Sara Bareilles - Waitress
Josh Groban - Sweeney Todd/Great Comet
Carly Rae Jepsen - Cinderella
Fran Drescher - Cinderella
A few others for if you make part 2, i can see people already put them in the comments haha. but also half of these idk if i can consider stunt casting, because like corbin, darren and jordan i know first and foremost for musicals, maybe not musical theatre, but it's not a huge leap to make. anyway:
Corbin Bleu - In The Heights
Jordan Fisher - Dear Evan Hansen
Gaten Matarazzo - Dear Evan Hansen (he's a broadway kid so idk if it counts)
Darren Criss - Hedwig and the Angry Inch
Sabrina Carpenter - Mean Girls (poor girl only got to do 2 shows)
Carly Rae Jepsen - Cinderella
Ricky Martin - Evita
Raven Symoné - Sister Act
Lea Michele - Funy Girl ( i mean... i know she's a broadway kid, but this is THE stunt casting, this was done for the gleeks only, to make a meme come to life)
I just saw JoJo in Moulin Rogue and she was EXCELLENT. She elevated the show for me
My personal favorite is Nina West as the mom in hairspray
If you do another one what about David Hasselhoff, Jack Wagner, or Sebastian Bach in Jekyll & Hyde. That show had some crazy stunt casting towards the end of the run 😅😅
seeing JoJo in Aquamarine was delightful she is an awesome actresss. she needs another album. Gaten for me is stunt marketing low spectrum. I saw a few shows on the west end they hardly use stunt casting which is cool. i wonder how olivia did/ was in Chicago.
Jinx Monsoon should be in Standing O wether you like the musical or not. Her performance was PHENOMENAL
Lol. Judging performances you didn’t see. Feels very “left at intermission”
Them talking about Ryan as a stunt cast but I have never heard of this man in my life 😅
love how when its ryans turn about his stunt casting he gets so uncomfortable like embarrassed
