  • Join a couple of members of the COT as we help out on our local syndicate shoot on beaters day. This video will show you some "behind the scenes" of a small driven shoot. You can see how the beaters work as we push the pheasants towards the Guns, we also walk up a few hedges and I manage to bag a couple of birds. It was hard work for the cocker as he had to sit at a peg, pick up, beat and hunt the cover when I was a walking gun. I also "look after" a young Gun who is shooting driven game for the first time I and get to share in his enjoyment as he shoots his first pheasant which we later cooked in a nice hot stew......As you will hear it was very windy and freezing cold but I was really pleased with how the camera managed to deal with the contrasty conditions.
I used the Go Pro Hero 3 set to 1080p @ 60 frames per second which enabled me to do the smooth slow motion section of the bird being shot......Please subscribe to see more of our videos.

Enjoyed this vid very much! Did a fair amount of shooting - clays and skeet, while stationed at RAF Upper Heyford back in 1982-86! Never got to shoot pheasants though! You dog was really enjoying the day! Thanks for posting!

Best bit of shoot day video I have watched in a while. Appreciated the nice steady and quiet beating line and most impressed by Harry's steadiness especially at the peg. Somewhat different to some beating lines I have been involved with recently!!

Jack Greenleaf thanks for your comments., however the headcam does distort the distance as it is quite wide angle. Also not quite sure where you get the sitting down bit the young Gun was standing at all times.

ive an SP4 12 bore, but recently ive used my SP 20b much more often, i rough shoot on the fells of Cumbria and the weight difference makes life a lot easier. nice to stand with a 12 but for walking up im committed to the 20

Tg.Ices...thanks for your comments with regards to the flicking bird, the dog had just retrieved that as a runner and you can hear me say that it is still a live. I used a priest to humanely dispatch the bird. As a shooting man you will know that quite often a bird will have some reflex movement when a priest is used and I can assure you the bird was dead. With regards to the dog....that is a fair comment and he will be have a bit of refresher training over the summer.

Wow an amazing gundog! How did it avoid solid ice balls on its feet/tummy? My cocker always got them in snow

Serious dog you've got there Nick, I've recently got a springer pup any tips for training him to retrieve that well? I've already shot birds over him at 6 months old but retrieving back to hand is the problem

I can't believe on the first drive you were making him shoot at things that were crossing to your left hand gun which were a good 45 to 50 yards I wouldn't raise my 12 bore at that and plus I wouldn't of been sitting down to shoot game birds as the gun doesn't come up properly for crossing birds I

i like the spaniel, even though his stop whistle is not sharp enough or any at all, then when the young guy shot the phesant he said to you its still alive, you replied its just flicking ?????. nooooo the bird was still alive and you left it there to suffer, im a shooting man and i found that disgusting in all fairness, sorry ,
