First of all thank you veterans, past and present, for your service. Three months ago I was one the pallbearers of my very best friend and neighbor James E Smith affectionately known on our property as ‘Jim Sr’…I was called ‘Jim Jr’. It was very difficult for me, firstly, bc we were burying such a wonderful man and my best friend. But, looking out across Veterans Memorial Cemetery here in Houston and seeing so many of my comrades laid to rest was staggering to say the least. One day in the future I’ll be buried here as well and be back among several of my friends buried there also. Thank you for this military tribute. Safe travels! ~Jim~
It's a sad part of our nation's history. I'm glad we have a place to honor them. You should go, if you get a chance. You will never forget it. Safe travels. 🙂
We are the same. I think it's because we all realize how much they get for us. Danny picks all our music and I really like the ones he picked on this video. Safe travel guys.
Very hallowed ground for sure! Corinth is my (Pam) hometown and been to Shiloh many times. Thanks for sharing such a huge part of our American history!
Wow what a tour I agree nobody wins. Very neat that we have an option of listening while we tour. That bloody pond area is sad 23,000 so sad. The editing was really great Danny love all the music choices very well done video and tour of this location.
Hello my southern brothers and sisters, I'm grateful people haven't destroyed this as well, I agree Lynn no one truly wins, God's blessings on you and Danny, safe travels 😊.
I'm glad they haven't destroyed it either. Someone once said those who forget history are doomed to relive it. We definitely don't want that. War is a very sad thing. Save travels to You too. 😊
Hello, Danny & Lynn, and thanks for sharing this video. Lisa and I enjoyed this tour, and the Shiloh National Military Park is only four and a half hours away. We might have to take a trip down there sometime this year. Well, I had better run, and you all stay safe! Until next time, may God bless your days the way He always blesses ours! Donald
It's such an interesting place to visit. I think you would really enjoy it. We learned so much that we never really knew or understood. You guys stay safe. 😊
What a beautiful area to have such a horrific history. Thanks for all the great information. The hornet story was just horrible to think about. The poor guys who fought, died and survived the battle. 23,000 😮 Enjoy your sojourners project.
My great grandfather and his brother were Privates in the 23rd Missouri Infantry on the Unions right flank of the Hornets Nest. My grandfather was badly wounded in his neck.( whether by musket ball or arillery fragment I do not know) It took a year before he was able to resume duty with the unit. His brother was captured later in the day ( Apr 6th) when the Union line finally collapsed and spent time in a prison camp in Macon, GA. He was later exchanged in a prisoner swap, but died of disease while in St Louis , MO. Great grand dad went on with the 23rd in Sherman's March Through Georgia and was discharged in Dec. 1864. He returned to his home in Missouri, but headed for California after the war ended. I believe due to all of the vengence killing and such going on in Missouri and Kansas. I was fortunate that my mother was able to relate so much of his history to me before she died. He died in 1937 at the age of 95.
I drive by there often while I'm working but I just don't have the time to stop usually. I go to Corinth often as well. I really like that town. Did you know the rest stop on hw 45 has a dump station?
I think the majority of the Mississippi rest stops have dump stations. You should stop by both sometime. It would be a great place to have your lunch. 😁
Danny said that over 2000 of the soldiers were unknown. So I guess they basically didn't know the names of many of them. That's so sad. Safe travels, friends. 😊
Yep 👍 nobody really wins at war
They really don't. Safe travels. 😊

It's crazy that so many died in such a short span of time. Such a sad part of our nation's history. 😢

Oh wow. In glad you made it. It's such an interesting place. We had no idea so many men died here. So sad. Safe travels. 😊
Interesting tales. I suspect the pond story is apocryphal but there were a lot of dead from that battle.
Us too. It's a sad place. 😔 safe travels.
Did they say how they knew the names of the dead after they came back and unburied the bodies?
Danny said that over 2000 of the soldiers were unknown. So I guess they basically didn't know the names of many of them. That's so sad. Safe travels, friends. 😊
