Matchless Gum is a fantastic song.
Definatly LIVE! Band Maid does use backing tracks in concert to include parts that were played (or sung) BY THEMSELVES, but obviously they can't play live because they are too busy playing their main instruments.
I completely agree with you that there’s none close to them in songwriting. All these drums fills and guitar transitions. They don’t even care for long solos which are not in line with the song. They do what is needed to do only. Greatest musicianship.
No this is NOT a studio recording over lay. This is the song that sealed the deal for me as far as becoming a Band-Maid fan. Saiki with the most badass 1-2-3-4 countdown into a guitar solo ever!
It is from Studio Coast concert, Nov 24 2017. It is released as a dvd and it also available on Band-Maid Prime. What you have is from a chinese website that doesn't respect copyrights.

About this video: this is the live recording, not studio overlay. This video IS a bootleg upload, but it is from a Limited Edition of 2018's World Domination album that included a bonus DVD featuring the "Just Bring It" Tour Final recorded live at Studio Coast on November 24, 2017. Since it is from a video source that is long since not being sold, I think you might be safe from ethical or copyright conflicts. That being said, Victor Entertainment can sometimes go heavy on the copyright take-downs.

And every Japanese band uses backing tracks. It's part if the art of Japanese rock. And yes, the engineer deliberately cut Saiki's voice in and out live as to keep it true to the studio recording, which is as clever as it is impressive.
I get psychogenic shivers with nearly every Band-Maid song. It’s like a music-drug they fiendishly inject into their music to keep you addicted… in a good way, of course. The first couple that come to mind at this moment are: Matchless Gum - the classical-like passage with that hunting chorus pedal and low bass effect just after the solo - especially the last two chords with the counter bass notes. It’s chilling; and second, the way Saiki soulfully attacks the first word “ I “ in the last lines of the official Choose Me MV, “I cannot wait forever…” combined with the raw, tribal drum and funky bass pulls. Pure rock phrasing. She only does it in the official MV.
NOTE: This version of Matchless Gum is from the Shinkiba Studio Coast 2017 concert. This concert and the 2018 ZEPP concert is some of the best you'll find from Band-Maid. Please try to play all the songs from these two concerts. And yes, there is some post production on these two concerts to get the best sound possible. Thx, RC!

As mentioned below this is from the 2017 Studio Coast Live DVD, the rights of which belonged to their previous label. But I gather now that their current label- Pony Canyon, has obtained the rights to all of their back catalogue. This probably the reason that this earlier material is no longer blocked, as was done in the past. It is a fact that the band themselves watch reactions to their music, as some reactors in the audience of their US tour were recognised by the band during the live shows.

Bizarre name but one of my long-time favorites by them. Thanks for checking it out. It was never released as part of a studio album, but as a B-side to the much better known "Yolo". I think it's an amazing song--all the changes of mood and tone are just perfect. Every clip from this concert (I think it was 2018) is perfect. There used to be a lot of them up, but most have been taken down. If you ever see the version of "Daydreaming" from that concert, don't miss it--it will break your heart.

This is from their Studio Coast DVD (released with the limited edition of the World Domination album - and the concert is on Band-Maid Prime). From a technical standpoint the Studio Coast recording is considered by many as the best they have done (up there with the Eggman recording in my opinion). It's an absolute banger of a song! I was lucky enough to witness them play this live at two different shows in October in Japan.
The site it was uploaded to is a Chinese version of YT (I won't name it here) that does not adhere to copyright in any shape or form. You can literally find anything on there. Band-Maids livestreams appear on there literally hours after they have aired for instance.
It looks like the Bili Bili logo at the top left of the video which would mean that this is from the bootleg copy of the Studio Coast DVD that is uploaded on that site. Bili Bili is a Shanghai based service which seems sort of like a Chinese version of U-Tube where international copyright laws don't appear to apply. As much as I think that this is not such a good thing, I must admit I've watched this whole show over there and was grateful to be able to see it since the DVD is no longer available for sale. It was a fantastic concert.

Wow. That’s the first time I’ve heard the live. Wow. This might be too sophisticated for someone just discovering Band Maid. But for a fan? Seals the deal making Band Maid the most important musical artists of a generation. Wow
After reviewing your BM playlist, you might be interested in adding some of their smoother offerings? “Daydreaming” is an alt-rock 2000’s uptempo track that has become a setlist staple. It also has, in my opinion, one of Kanami’s best solos 🤘🏽

This performance is from the fall-winter tour of 2017 for Just Bring It. It is from their live DVD recorded at a theater called Shinkiba Studio Coast. It happens at about the 20 minute mark.

Matchless Gum was a B Side on the YOLO single, along with Unfair Game, which is a fantastic song. These are some of the earliest released songs that were written by Kanami.
Also, this concert has generally been my favorite to watch. (The first four songs include three of my top 5 favorite songs by them.)
And a final note, on officially released videos, they do make a few corrections. There aren't generally a ton, but we've had a few concerts that were live streamed then released later and could compare. For instance, in the January 2023 concert, there was a song where Miku didn't make it back to her microphone in time, so we missed a few words of a line. They edited those back into the bluray, which makes sense.

Nope that is THE live version from the Studio Coast Tokyo DVD, the studio/album version is different. This is and has been my all time number one favourite....bar none
Definitely not an overlay. That is from the concert. There is a bit of a backing track there though with the extra vocals. And it is good to see the desk mixer included the cutting & chopping of Saiki's voice on the night, in that one section. Slightly different to the studio recording too.
Just another example of Bandmaid's willingness to interject interesting accents into an already great song. Gutsy AND glorious!

They're using a backing track, obviously all the synth parts are prerecorded, but this is really good recording and mixing. Kanami Tōno is one of the best composers to come along in a long time. I think she views her solos in the context of the entire song. It's the "middle eight" and it doesn't feel right if it goes past that. What if she went "rock opera" someday and did a Pink Floyd style concept album? What could she do if she committed to a 20 minute song and completely developed three or four themes? She's such a perfectionist it might kill her like "Lifehouse" nearly killed Pete. Never mind.
Great reaction. Another deep cut of theirs that is an absolute banger is called Hide and Seek. Kanami has some great rhythm and lead work in this one. Check it out. Rock on 🤘
If you can only find it on Bilibili, it's paywall content. The original source video will likely not be there after a bit, but whomever (my guess is RIAJ) takes these down does not seem to be very quick, especially with Bilibili, as it is a Shanghai based company, which btw, is minority owned by Sony, which IS NOT Band-Maid's label, past or present. They don't, however, generally seem to go the extra yard and take down reactions to these pirated videos. And I would bet that whatever copyright royalties that are paid to Bilibili never make it to Japan. Knowledge is power, and what one chooses to do with that power is that person's burden to bear.

This is definitely live - I don't like Saiki's studio vocal, the extra screamy, shreaky effect is live only.
This is one of the songs I only listen to the live version.

Once again a non-album released B side that kills like most bands all-time hit might hope to; these ladies are sick in the very worst way
