    I think you might like the adventures in foster land series. It's a collection of stories about rescued animals in foster care, based on real life stories of foster animals. One story is about Snowpea the puppy queen, a kitten that becomes best friends with two puppies. Another one is about a piglet becoming best friends with another foster kitten.

    Immediatly adding this to my shelf-cosy, charming stories is what we NEED nowadays. To be reminded of the joys of escaping into a good book. Thanks Rachel!

    If you want a cozy fantasy, you may like Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries! It does still have a plot and a lot happens, but it’s lower key because the book is written as the MC’s journal

    I have been trying to be more aware of the YT content I consume. When there's content where I know that afterwards, I'm just going to be a little angrier at the world, I usually skip it (Diddy's arrest is an exception lately). Instead, i focus on content where I know I'll feel happier afterwards. E.g., a disabled person telling how they master a skill that their disability makes really difficult to accomplish. Not toxic positivity, but things that have actual positive impact. Seeing you do that with videos such as this one is very comforting, as I want to see you thrive, not suffer.

    Exactly with you on Wicked- the concept is really neat but it's needlessly brutal in my opinion and was hard to get all the way through. I really love a lot of bleak, dark horror so it's not that I can't stomach that sort of thing but Wicked felt just unrelenting in how awful everyone and everything was without really clinching a worthwhile artistic meaning to that choice. I think the musical did it a lot better, and that's not normally an opinion I have in regards to musical theater adaptations of pre-existing source material.

    Occasional comfort books are good for mental health😊. If you need another, you might like the first volume of Hooky. The characters are complex but it's silly and sweet. It's also a graphic novel and the art is so fun.

    oh gosh Wicked... yeah gave up on that one too. I didn't enjoy it, somehow had trouble just getting through the pages and then there was a weird party and something with a tiger and I was like...okay I am DONE...
    Dallergut's cover looks so cute and colourful though goshhh! I'm quite curious now :D
    And also very happy you finally got to enjoy a read again, nothing wrong with a little comfort read every now and again right? ♥

    • @moreracheloates
      @moreracheloates  วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      With great difficulty sometimes! Sometimes I just spend a bit of time with my bookshelves or in a library or bookshop, flicking through the books I've not read yet and waiting for a paragraph or a character to jump out at me. Sometimes I just pick an ebook at (almost) random and read a sample and see if it grabs my attention. Or if I've just read a book I really liked and want something with a similar feel, I'll often look on places like the SuggestMeABook subreddit to see if people have any suggestions :)

    I had a really similar experience with the movie Perfect Days. No stakes, no consistent plot, just vibes and quick, slight storylines. Usually the kind of movie that would bore me out of my mind. But I really liked it. It wasn’t boring, the vibes were immaculate, and it was very wholesome. Maybe you should give it a watch

    I’m not overly fond of present tense, either. This is the first time I’ve heard anyone echoing that feeling. Certainly not a dealbreaker, but I don’t find it very immersive. In my writing, I only use it in first person, for certain kinds of (not particularly reflective or observant) characters.

    From the sounds of it, it's a healing genre book. Very popular in japan and korea and around there. The genre's for stories that are cozy comfy, generally low stakes, meant to immerse you in an atmosphere like a hobby or a setting with characters who usually just chat and grow together. It's as the name implies meant to be a reprieve, and it sounds like you found one at the exact moment you needed one. I'm personally a big fan of any works in the genre, they usually do a lot of worldbuilding or exploring of specific tasks so in depth. One of my favourites is the manga Yokohama Shopping Log, about humanity coming to an end and everyone deciding to enjoy a peaceful twilight, follows an android who runs a little remote cafe and the few people left in the village. There's an entire chapter dedicated to brewing a cup of coffee, and another about how the sight from a particular lookout has changed over the years. Works in the genre can be so beautiful and peaceful.
