I think you should work with someone to do a HUGE trip to visit all nations of a continent (obviously not north america) in a time period of you choice but it has to be under a year... Its challenging but your BRAVE DAVE and your awesome so I know you can do it! Love your videos!
There are many more problems with freight hopping in Europe, such as: many electrified lines, relatively short freight trains, much less freight trains (which means he'd have to spend a lot more time waiting), having to cross borders to get a decent length trip (and that's if you can find an international freight train), different languages, and probably more I can't think of.
Never been to Europe so I can't know for sure, but isn't European rail way too quick and the cars are built different and the whole thing would be extremely difficult to pull off? I bet if the same thing happens in Europe as it did in Canada, that Dave would be screwed.
I second this idea, The Australia Outback freight system is enormous I would like to see you go from Perth to Sydney, Darwin to Melbourne or Brisbane to Melbourne too would be good.

Here in Russia, if you get caught trainsurfing (it's somewhat common here), you'll probably get a big ass fine. The fine is from 3k to 4k rubles or you may even have to do community service. Here this kind of activity is called зацепинг, and there are enough youtubers that do this. So the punishment in Russia is less harsh than it is in the states or Canada. But freighthopping or train hopping, it's stupid and dangerous, just don't do it kids.

This new trend of forcing subtitles on TH-cam videos is annoying to me. Deaf people should be able to turn subtitles on, but putting them directly on the video makes it hard to watch the video without reading them for me.
It would be amazing! Since that is the route central American immigrants take to get to the US. from Guatemala to Texas. So the freight train called "the Beast" travels packed with illegals through Mexico. Why don't they get caught? Ooo... Not in Mexico. In CA or US, the worst that would happen is a few nights in jail. In Mexico, the Federales are not exactly known for fairness or following the rules. Piss them off and you get stuck in a Mexican jail for a long time or they just shoot you cause it's easier. The rail workers might kill you or you might run into a cartel. Basically I would only give a 50% chance of staying alive!
Dave, it seems like something as minor as a trespassing ticket could be cleared using a local attorney. In Canada. It might be worth the effort. You can definitely clear that warrant. Fact of the matter is you have to physically be on their property and caught for a trespassing charge to stick. Your video edit may appear that you were there but that was all done in post production processing for entertainment purposes so you didn't do anything wrong.
The totally audacious way you pulled off that daring escape when you were last in Canada, and then had even more audacity to vlog it, is why they had to shoot you down and put a warrant out for you. They couldn't humbly accept defeat. Secretly they were awestruck by the badassness, especially when they thought they had you cornered like an animal with nowhere to run.

It is technically possible to make it from Singapore to London by rail. I don't know that its feasible to do it all by freight hopping, but the gist of the trip would be to leave Singapore by train through to Malaysia, Thailand and then China. Once in China, the high speed rail system is incredible. It's like flying on the ground. I once took from Shenzhen to Beijing and it only took 12 hours, which is unbelievably fast. From Beijing, you can book a bunk on the Transiberian railway, which goes to Moscow via Mongolia over the course of a week. I've done the first leg of this trip and hopped off the train at the Mongolian border. it was EPIC. From Moscow, there are many ways one can to London. I've long been fascinated by this, to the point where I even mapped the above itinerary in my head. I don't think I'll ever execute it however, which is why I'm hoping you will and film the whole thing!!
The new railroad from Europe to china, goon around China and trans Siberia on the way back, ferry from St. Petersburg to Stockholm and then there is train all way down to France and the tunnel back to England. That would be a crazy adventure, but not all of it on fright trains I hope.

freight hopping in Canada is just criminal Trespassing it would most likely just be a fine of 200-1000 Canadian dollars. which not sure of the conversion rate would be but he would have been arrested on his charges and pushed to court to be presented a fine pretty much. nothing major but if he was let out paid his dues and got caught again is where it would've been hairy as he would've been held on charges of criminal mischief which could've imprisoned him for longer than his due stay and he would arrive back home late for work and such would've been a bigger risk than granted.
I was wondering about that. What if he allowed himself to be arrested and then just plead guilty and paid the fine? I assume there would be no jail time. Would Canada then be cool with him? Or would they still ban him?
Not sure how Canada works, but I'd be surprised if repeat offenses were punished severely. Especially with video evidence that he intended to pay the fine knowing full well he was gonna do it again.

I honestly think that you are such an amazing inspiration for anyone. Not because you illegally freight hop, but because no matter what happens, you always stay positive. You got banned from the US and Canada which are both countries of high importance and tourism, but you say “it’s only 2 of the 198 countries in the world so it’s not that bad.” You are an amazing human being and I can only wish the best for you.

Don't give up, there is a Russian youtuber called Ilia Bondarev (check him out) who also does this stuff, he started hopping in USA, but continued doing it in Mexico and the trains are actually more or less the same looking, so even though Canada is closed, Mexico is still free to visit, there's much more wild forests, even real tropical forests, sunny mountains, beaches, deserts, even native american sites, cities are probably very different to Canadian/American ones, the language is different, so that could be a much cooler adventure than Canada again. There's also loads of European countries where you can do that, Turkey, Russia, Balkans (Greece for example is also sunny like Mexico and have high mountainous railroads), so you don't even have to spend so much money on going to another continent. :)
I would not recommend him do Europe, most of the rail-line is electric and hoping on train cars with high voltage lines above your head is too dangerous.
That russian guy's videos are entertaining, but he takes a lot of risks. Like the time he was really drunk and staggering along the top of a train. In Mexico everyone warned him how dangerous it was. There are criminal gangs that target train hoppers. All it takes is one bad encounter to end up dead.
@@RiverFerret Actually, it would be very difficult to establish what laws he broke. Maritime law is very complex. What punishment he got would depend on where the ship was registered, and what kind of person captain was.

Dave, did you get word yet about hobo stobe's death yet???? From the FB page about it...James Stobie, aka Stobe the Hobo, died Wednesday the 8th of November, 2017. He was trapped on a bridge with an on coming Amtrak train, and while he got to the side of the bridge the best he could, the train caught his backpack and and pulled him into the train. The police identified his remains from fingerprints from the Coast Guard records Friday, and notified his parents.

Why don't you just call up Canada and ask them how much to pay off the trespass? Usually it's only like a couple grand. And yeah I know that's a lot of money for your average person, but surely you could raise that on patreon or something by doing a series of smaller fundraising type trips in the UK or Europe, and then pay off the fine in a year or two tops, then you don't have to wait 10 years to go back? Just an idea, forgive me if it seems like I'm asking a lot of you or being too forward. I just thought I'd throw it out there. Cheers Dave.
He was basically _deported_ from Canada. It's common for countries to impose a 10 year ban on deportees. This will now be the issue rather than some outstanding warrant, and it's one for which it's extremely unlikely that there will be a "solution". He's most probably also relinquished any right he had to appeal his deportation because he signed a document agreeing to it.
John Brown Right. That makes sense. Wouldn't be bad to have a lawyer look into it though, maybe one of the subscribers on the channel here is an attorney.? My uncle who's an airline pilot actually got banned from Canada once for a very silly reason. He ended up saying hell with it, and it eventually went away after some time. I suppose it wouldn't really be particularly worth it if it was spectacularly expensive anyway, just for a week or two of youtube filming and then no further plans to return. C'est la vie.

I thought you deserved it cause you really really put your life in danger in that video series. For now its better for you to just keep the channel alive so make sure that post hiking and climbing videos keep the channel alive I am a TH-camr myself and the worst thing for a channel is to stay empty for time beign. Keep the audience happy going hiking and climbing are not that much expensive also make people notified about your possible trips. It will be fine have no worries.

Your Canadian train hop was amazing. The sights and locations you filmed and the people your met were so very interesting. My wife, my 9 year old son and I for the first time ever can now say we watched around five or more hours of some guy named Brave Dave hopping across Canada while filming life abroad on the Canadian Railway. Your videos of train hopping was some of the most unique adventure footage I have ever seen. Those morning views of various "in the middle of nowhere" places were beautiful and breath taking. More than once I have longed for an adventure like yours. It was nice to live that adventure out through your videos. My son and I have a "large" 9x9 foot 1/48 O scale layout in our house. Come on down to Australia. If you freight hopped here you'd probably die, but you could always try the East Coast vision quest (walking from Brisbane to Sydney). Nothing gets you more enlightened than spending a month wandering the Australian wilderness with nothing but a backpack.

ihniwtpu Nah, not every country has the same kind of infrastructure or climate. You'll just get a lot of coal trains and tightly packed shipping containers, nowhere safe to really hide. And you definitely don't want to be jumping into an open topped coal hopper in Australia, you'll get burnt alive.
Unless he is prepared to sit in a metal hole in 40+ degree celsius heat, with a high risk of getting caught, i dont think it would happen. However, a hiking/camping trip to Australia would be something i would enjoy watching

You should really do some train hopping in Norway. Note that it's quite chilly, but our general security is balls. I live in Bergen myself, and i can vouch for that in this city at least. The major concern is that our train network isn't as busy as most other countries, so you'll have to make the most out of the trains that actually do go anywhere.

At least Australia would have no language issues. Unbelievable distances and the capacity if you catch the wrong train to end up on the other side of the moon for about a week. If you found somewhere with suitable trains and got a contact, surely doable.
Watch a channel called C90 adventures, he has traveled a lot of the world on one and sleeps on the side of the road. He even managed places like Alaska in -30 and countries like Iran (which he loved) He chose the small bike because he could fix it anywhere.
At this point you'd probably have a better chance of getting hurt doing that there, than doing anything in the US. TH-cam is full of British cops removing knife welding fucktards from their two wheeled transportation.

I saw your big adventure last year, and started off thinking you were a complete nutter for taking many of those risks, and yet thoroughly enjoyed watching the entire thing. The scenery! The excitement! The suspense! Would that kill all the joy and thrill of hopping freight and relegate it to about the same boringness as booking a passenger flight, or would you still relish the opportunity to experience and show off something most people might never see~? I always appreciate it when people but a bit of time and effort in to them :) Haha, yeah, I know when to admit defeat and this was certainly one of those times :P And try not to worry about me too much, I don't plan on dying anytime soon! I'm actually pretty sensible and generally good at taking calculated risks. So far so good! As for the question; it would depend on a lot of factors, but riding a freight train without the risk would still be fun, but not so much an adventure. Riding in a cab (legitimately) would be great, but I imagine after an hour or so it would be like "Okay then, so this is it..." The biggest part of the excitement of BFFH was the fact that I was under the radar, with only myself to rely upon.

Hi Dave. I recently discovered your videos and really like them. While train hopping is illegal it's kind of very "unguilty" crime. You don't hurt anybody and you are not a threat to anybody. You don't damage anything and don't cause any real problem. Even if you are trespassing you choose to travel free on the expense of comfort. Windy, sometimes rainy and screaming sound from the train. Sitting and sleeping on a hard surface far from the comfort offered with regular passenger car. In my opinion a banning from the country is an exaggerated measure for the "crime". There is no evil included, just a longing for adventure. Which I really appreciate to look at in your videos even if I personally never had done it myself.

australia wouldnt be a good idea either, if he's freight hopping that means he has to go through the outback, which in itself isnt bad, but if hes going out there exposed to the sun, heat, and dryness for more than even just 2 hours then he's in serious trouble. Especially if he doesn't bring any water. Also considering hes from the UK i dont know how he'd handle the heat. Dave is obviously tough enough to be in that heat but it'd be very uncomfortable for him i would bet. And i dont mean "fuck this is annoying" uncomfortable i mean "i cant move properly" uncomfortable.
Never mind Dave, you take big risks with those train hops, I think you're safer to climb or run as you like to, up mountains. You're not barred from the top of the world places at least. And also, this is a great video, entirely authentic and an adventure in itself. This what you're posting here. is very much like what adventure and travel is about, sometimes we are way out of our comfort zones. Sometimes things go really bad. You're either underestimating the size of Eurasia or overestimating the size of Canada. Doing a trip across all of Europe and Russia would take a whole lot longer and be a whole lot more dangerous
Frieght train hop in Australia! Failing that there's a freight train route right through the Sahara that Bald And Bankrupt covered. it'd still be an adventure and you could hightlight the culture there

Everyone there thought he was full of shit when he told us why he was there until the night of his sentencing hearing. He never came back after court and his story was on the evening news. That was back in 1999. I just watched all four videos of your trip across Canada and it made me wish I had done that before I had kids and got old lol. Awesome videos. I can’t wait for you to try this failed trip again. By the way, when you’re allowed back into Canada, I highly recommend visiting St. John’s again, this time from outside of the airport. Probably one of the best places to visit in the whole country

There are many more problems with freight hopping in Europe, such as: many electrified lines, relatively short freight trains, much less freight trains (which means he'd have to spend a lot more time waiting), having to cross borders to get a decent length trip (and that's if you can find an international freight train), different languages, and probably more I can't think of.
Never been to Europe so I can't know for sure, but isn't European rail way too quick and the cars are built different and the whole thing would be extremely difficult to pull off? I bet if the same thing happens in Europe as it did in Canada, that Dave would be screwed.

Here in Russia, if you get caught trainsurfing (it's somewhat common here), you'll probably get a big ass fine. The fine is from 3k to 4k rubles or you may even have to do community service. Here this kind of activity is called зацепинг, and there are enough youtubers that do this. So the punishment in Russia is less harsh than it is in the states or Canada. But freighthopping or train hopping, it's stupid and dangerous, just don't do it kids.

Dave, it seems like something as minor as a trespassing ticket could be cleared using a local attorney. In Canada. It might be worth the effort. It’s entirely possible a good attorney could get the warrant cancelled. Thanks for your videos. I live and travel the US in an RV and post videos about it on my channel, a few of them train videos. Maybe you can wander Europe a bit in a van or something and film adventures along the way?

You can definitely clear that warrant. Fact of the matter is you have to physically be on their property and caught for a trespassing charge to stick. Your video edit may appear that you were there but that was all done in post production processing for entertainment purposes so you didn't do anything wrong.

It is technically possible to make it from Singapore to London by rail. I don't know that its feasible to do it all by freight hopping, but the gist of the trip would be to leave Singapore by train through to Malaysia, Thailand and then China.
Once in China, the high speed rail system is incredible. It's like flying on the ground. I once took from Shenzhen to Beijing and it only took 12 hours, which is unbelievably fast.
From Beijing, you can book a bunk on the Transiberian railway, which goes to Moscow via Mongolia over the course of a week. I've done the first leg of this trip and hopped off the train at the Mongolian border. it was EPIC.
From Moscow, there are many ways one can to London.
I've long been fascinated by this, to the point where I even mapped the above itinerary in my head. I don't think I'll ever execute it however, which is why I'm hoping you will and film the whole thing!!

freight hopping in Canada is just criminal Trespassing it would most likely just be a fine of 200-1000 Canadian dollars. which not sure of the conversion rate would be but he would have been arrested on his charges and pushed to court to be presented a fine pretty much. nothing major but if he was let out paid his dues and got caught again is where it would've been hairy as he would've been held on charges of criminal mischief which could've imprisoned him for longer than his due stay and he would arrive back home late for work and such would've been a bigger risk than granted.

Not sure how Canada works, but I'd be surprised if repeat offenses were punished severely. Especially with video evidence that he intended to pay the fine knowing full well he was gonna do it again.

Don't give up, there is a Russian youtuber called Ilia Bondarev (check him out) who also does this stuff, he started hopping in USA, but continued doing it in Mexico and the trains are actually more or less the same looking, so even though Canada is closed, Mexico is still free to visit, there's much more wild forests, even real tropical forests, sunny mountains, beaches, deserts, even native american sites, cities are probably very different to Canadian/American ones, the language is different, so that could be a much cooler adventure than Canada again. There's also loads of European countries where you can do that, Turkey, Russia, Balkans (Greece for example is also sunny like Mexico and have high mountainous railroads), so you don't even have to spend so much money on going to another continent. :)

Dave, did you get word yet about hobo stobe's death yet???? From the FB page about it...James Stobie, aka Stobe the Hobo, died Wednesday the 8th of November, 2017. He was trapped on a bridge with an on coming Amtrak train, and while he got to the side of the bridge the best he could, the train caught his backpack and and pulled him into the train. The police identified his remains from fingerprints from the Coast Guard records Friday, and notified his parents.

Why don't you just call up Canada and ask them how much to pay off the trespass? Usually it's only like a couple grand. And yeah I know that's a lot of money for your average person, but surely you could raise that on patreon or something by doing a series of smaller fundraising type trips in the UK or Europe, and then pay off the fine in a year or two tops, then you don't have to wait 10 years to go back? He was basically _deported_ from Canada. It's common for countries to impose a 10 year ban on deportees. This will now be the issue rather than some outstanding warrant, and it's one for which it's extremely unlikely that there will be a "solution". He's most probably also relinquished any right he had to appeal his deportation because he signed a document agreeing to it.
Even if he could do that, i don't think he would get off so easy the second time if he manages to get caught

Your Canadian train hop was amazing. The sights and locations you filmed and the people your met were so very interesting. My wife, my 9 year old son and I for the first time ever can now say we watched around five or more hours of some guy named Brave Dave hopping across Canada while filming life abroad on the Canadian Railway. Your videos of train hopping was some of the most unique adventure footage I have ever seen. Those morning views of various "in the middle of nowhere" places were beautiful and breath taking. More than once I have longed for an adventure like yours. It was nice to live that adventure out through your videos. My son and I have a "large" 9x9 foot 1/48 O scale layout in our house. ihniwtpu Nah, not every country has the same kind of infrastructure or climate. You'll just get a lot of coal trains and tightly packed shipping containers, nowhere safe to really hide. And you definitely don't want to be jumping into an open topped coal hopper in Australia, you'll get burnt alive.

Canada used to be a nation of adventurers, it's become a sad shadow of that over the last 30 years, hence this hysterical over-reaction to you turning up again. Australia has great freight hopping opportunities & stunning landscapes along their 3 main routes.
You should really do some train hopping in Norway. Note that it's quite chilly, but our general security is balls. I live in Bergen myself, and i can vouch for that in this city at least. The major concern is that our train network isn't as busy as most other countries, so you'll have to make the most out of the trains that actually do go anywhere.
I'd love to visit Norway! It being the most expensive country in the world might make it a bit trickier though :P

Watch a channel called C90 adventures, he has traveled a lot of the world on one and sleeps on the side of the road. He even managed places like Alaska in -30 and countries like Iran (which he loved) He chose the small bike because he could fix it anywhere.
At this point you'd probably have a better chance of getting hurt doing that there, than doing anything in the US. TH-cam is full of British cops removing knife welding fucktards from their two wheeled transportation.

As someone so far outside the hobby that I might as well be on another planet... Sounds like you handled the letdown very graciously. I saw your big adventure last year, and started off thinking you were a complete nutter for taking many of those risks, and yet thoroughly enjoyed watching the entire thing. The scenery! The excitement! The suspense!
I'm not one to wax lyrical about the fine line between bravery and stupidity, but for all my misgivings and fear about some cool bloke I've not met taking one risk too many and ending up in a terrible state... Well, you're Brave Dave! There's something incredible about your achievements, even if (and partially because) they were enough to get you banned from north america. I guess this makes you a legend, now, huh?
Empathising with the bull is something I have to respect you for. My opinion of you, even tempered by fear that you might off yourself one day doing these things, has been very much raised. I look forward to seeing more adventures~ ♥

Say theoretically you got invited by a fan with enough clout to get you a cab ride on a big route somewhere in the world - Or even maybe access to ride one of their freight cars without any fear of repercussions (though that is a bit of a pipedream with how health and safety conscious these companies are.) Would that kill all the joy and thrill of hopping freight and relegate it to about the same boringness as booking a passenger flight, or would you still relish the opportunity to experience and show off something most people might never see~? Just curious.

I always appreciate it when people but a bit of time and effort in to them :) Haha, yeah, I know when to admit defeat and this was certainly one of those times :P And try not to worry about me too much, I don't plan on dying anytime soon! I'm actually pretty sensible and generally good at taking calculated risks. So far so good!
As for the question; it would depend on a lot of factors, but riding a freight train without the risk would still be fun, but not so much an adventure. Riding in a cab (legitimately) would be great, but I imagine after an hour or so it would be like "Okay then, so this is it..." The biggest part of the excitement of BFFH was the fact that I was under the radar, with only myself to rely upon.

I think some people went insane just watching the Minions movie normally, you may want to see a psychologist after that. :) But seriously, that whole wanted criminal thing sucks. While train hopping is illegal it's kind of very "unguilty" crime.
You don't hurt anybody and you are not a threat to anybody. You don't damage anything and don't cause any real problem.
Even if you are trespassing you choose to travel free on the expense of comfort. Windy, sometimes rainy and screaming sound from the train. Sitting and sleeping on a hard surface far from the comfort offered with regular passenger car.
In my opinion a banning from the country is an exaggerated measure for the "crime". There is no evil included, just a longing for adventure. Which I really appreciate to look at in your videos even if I personally never had done it myself.

australia wouldnt be a good idea either, if he's freight hopping that means he has to go through the outback, which in itself isnt bad, but if hes going out there exposed to the sun, heat, and dryness for more than even just 2 hours then he's in serious trouble. Especially if he doesn't bring any water. Also considering hes from the UK i dont know how he'd handle the heat. Dave is obviously tough enough to be in that heat but it'd be very uncomfortable for him i would bet. And i dont mean "fuck this is annoying" uncomfortable i mean "i cant move properly" uncomfortable.
Never mind Dave, you take big risks with those train hops, I think you're safer to climb or run as you like to, up mountains. You're not barred from the top of the world places at least. And also, this is a great video, entirely authentic and an adventure in itself. This what you're posting here. is very much like what adventure and travel is about, sometimes we are way out of our comfort zones. Sometimes things go really bad. This is what travel and adventure is sometimes about. You have your health, you have your freedom, you have a lot, just no more train hopping in the US and Canada. Could be worse.

Everyone there thought he was full of shit when he told us why he was there until the night of his sentencing hearing. He never came back after court and his story was on the evening news. That was back in 1999. I just watched all four videos of your trip across Canada and it made me wish I had done that before I had kids and got old lol. Awesome videos. I can’t wait for you to try this failed trip again. By the way, when you’re allowed back into Canada, I highly recommend visiting St. John’s again, this time from outside of the airport. Probably one of the best places to visit in the whole country
