    My two cents: Sequential Trigon-6 is a fantastic-sounding polyphonic analog synth. It is very organic and powerful at the same time. It offers numerous sweet spots and has the potential for creating really aggressive sounds. The build quality is great too. I had hoped for a more complex mod matrix, but I guess that would have interfered with the one-knob-per-function philosophy.
    The downside is, once again, the internal effect section, which simply isn't on par with the overall sound engine. Of course, it's great to have internal effects, especially when using the synth live. And for that purpose, the Chorus, RingMod, and partially the Delay effects are okay. However, the Trigon-6 truly starts to shine when paired with a dedicated effect unit.

    How would you compare the Trigon with the Pro3? If you put the poly vs mono thing to the side and compare just the raw sound I have the impression the Trigon sounds raw and agressive while the Pro3 has a warmer less agressive sound.

    • @limbicbits
      @limbicbits  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      Hard to say. Both can sound hard and aggressive if you like but just based on the sound the Trigon-6 is more present, defined in the details when it comes to overdriven tones.
      Pro 3 is great for sound design, though, due to its many features. Trigon-6 would be a great sweet spot synth when you're looking for a synth that fits easily in the mix but at the same time can be a powerful main synth for everything analog with a moog-flavor

    • @infestedalien
      @infestedalien 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I have both machines and can say Trigon 6 is most prefeered for me as it sounds way more pleasent. But the pro 3 is fun with lots of modulation possibility. However i think Trigon 6 is the winner for me. Somehow the Trigon always goes in the expected direcrion when sound designing. The pro 3 is very easy to overload signal path in. So just keep that in mind. Many blames pro 3 to sound brutal because they turn mixer to maximum before filter stage.

    My nr 1 question, why haven't you created a pack for the one and only Virus Ti synth yet?

    • @limbicbits
      @limbicbits  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Simple answer- having owned a B and a TI for quite a while I just got completely oversaturated with their sound character. These are great and flexible synths but there is something in the virus sound I just don’t like anymore

      @myceliumtechno ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@limbicbits Ah interesting, I can imagine getting that saturated feeling with a synth. I had that with the Iridium. I just ordered the TI2 mainly for Dub Techno, creating a dub chord sound pack as well.

    Is it just me or does this synth sound really harsh and thin in the high end and thin - kind of like was said about the prophet 08. Sort of metallic. Maybe it's just the distortion? Some very emotive patches but at the same time leaves me cold in some way. Maybe i'm more an OB guy?

    Would you get the Trigon-6 if you had the Rev-2? Or even sell the Rev-2 to buy the Trigon?

    • @limbicbits
      @limbicbits  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Actually, yes. Well, I wouldn't keep each of them. I had to choose and leave out the budget aspect, I'd go with the Trigon-6. But like always it's a matter of taste.
      I'm simply not digging the Sequential poly-prophet sound. Hence, almost every synth that tends to sound that way doesn't speak to me.
      The Rev 2 is cool for sound design and offers more possibilities. But I'm simply not a huge fan of its character.

    Bro comparing to prophet 6, can you give me an advice which should I buy?

    • @limbicbits
      @limbicbits  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Actually, I have never tried the Prophet 6 so I can't really give you an advice here. The Trigon-6 combines Moog-Filters with discrete VCOs which results in an overall rich and musical sound.
      The Prophet iterations I've tried all tend to fit a bit easier in the mix but don't offer that strong low-end and rawness the Trigon-6 has. That's also due to its great filter saturation and overdrive.
      My choice would thus be the Trigon-6. But again, I haven't tried the Prophet 6 so far and (maybe I should have mentioned that in the first place) I'm generally not a huge fan of the prophet-sound, so my opinion can't be more biased, I guess.

    • @limbicbits
      @limbicbits  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the Trigon-6 is the most underrated out of that range and I don't get why, tbh. It's a fantastic synth that sits a bit in the middle between Prophet and Moog. I'd still prefer the OB-6 as its sound character fits my taste best, but that's just a matter of taste.

    As someone who's been dabbling with synths since the mid '70s, I feel like this generation is stuck in the 1980s. All we're doing is rehashing old designs and to the exception of a handful of companies like Waldorf, we seem incapable of crafting anything new. Is there no horizon beyond subtractive/additive/west-coast/FM/granular/wavetable and resonators ?
    Where are today's champions of synth design ? Probably more in the modular realm, but there again, the vast majority of it is Moog 55 trapped in Groundhog Day. The only (valuable) progress I've seen in the last 15 years is the tremendous drop in price ; back when I was a 20, these synths cost the price of a car, and the Synclavier, the price of a house ; so today the commoditization is in full swing and that's a good thing. But now, please, let's move beyond 80s synthpop.

    • @dankeplace

      Just because you focus your attention on analog gear, you project that it's an 80s synth.

      From what I can tell, the goal of the Trigon is to perfect a technology Dave Smith was both passionate about and helped pioneer. It’s also the completion of a series that represents his life’s work and deep respect for his colleagues. I’m willing to give him a pass on it being less innovative because of that.
      I also suspect it will grow on people as they begin to appreciate its immediate workflow and raw sound character. We are, after all, talking about a knob-per-function, productivity workhorse with a feature-set informed by 50 years of collective wisdom designed to encourage music-making over intricate sound design. A lot of people like this approach and the T6 provides a refined version of that experience in a tight package with a few tricks up its sleeve (like an analog distortion) to give it character. On those merits I think it’s a perfect swan song and am looking forward to seeing which direction Sequential will choose to go from here.

    • @coyotegeek
      @coyotegeek 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would add that this is a synth that Dave Smith couldn't build in the 80s--for the stupidest of reasons. Moog was known to litigate against companies that used filter designs similar to their transistor ladder. They definitely had legal tangles with both ARP and Roland, who changed the design of synths already in the market (ARP Odyssey and Roland SH-2000) to use a non-infringing filter design.

  • @auralplex

    Man I have an Ob-6 and it makes me feel the same as this - these synths are too simple. The sounds are too boring for me. My Prophet 08 makes way better sounds honestly.

    • @limbicbits
      @limbicbits  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      All a matter of taste and perception. “Better” is a very individual statement. For example, I like the sound of a REV2 way less than the sound of an OB-6, for example. Plus, I was hoping to get a modern Matrix 1000 with the Rev2 but it’s just not on par with it for me.
      And it is the general sound of the oscs, filter, EG etc that have to convince me, not the complexity of a synth. If both are given, great. If not, I’d always choose sound over features and fill that other gap with a different synth.
