Rhodar Help, Hike & Paddle Charity Challenge 2018

During September 2018 a team from Rhodar undertook an ambitious two-stage charity initiative: … The ‘Help, Hike & Paddle Challenge’ to support WellChild, the national charity for sick children:
Stage 1 … ‘Hike and Paddle Challenge’ held at Patterdale Hall in the Lake District.
For this stage 28 hardy souls divided into competitive teams of 4:
First up … the sea kayak navigational race on Ullswater….
… the teams paddled out to numerous islands to find checkpoints and solve tough riddles and quiz questions.
… there was also the rather scary ‘Lake Leap’ to complete!
Next was a gruelling hike - hours in the fells searching for more check points…
… including one at the top of High Place Fell (2155ft)!
.. and a race back to make the cut-off time.
This tough challenge was not only great fun … but the most important result?
… £10,000 donated to WellChild … a fantastic achievement!
Stage 2 … Amir’s ‘Helping Hands’ Garden Makeover project…
… later in September a team of 20 volunteers from around the country
… spent 2 days creating a safe and inspiring garden space for 3 year old Amir, who has autism
… plenty of clearing and digging up stubborn roots
…creating a large wooden decked area
…and a huge artificial grass area
…the side garden was also seeded so the family can enjoy lush grass in the summer.
This project was incredibly physically demanding
…but Amir and his brother clearly loved the result as you will see from this video!
