Alotta Fagina is a play on a character in a James Bond movie. She was named Pussy Galore. Yes, that was the actual character name in a mainstream movie.
The little music and dance bits is an homage to "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In", a 60's sketch comedy show where they'd have those quick dance scenes to transition between segments.
8:09 This villain, Random Task, is based on a Bond villain named Oddjob. Oddjob was an assassin who decapitated people by throwing a hat with a fortified rim.
Haha great reaction. I swear, the more years that pass, so will the reactions of young people who don't get pop culture references of my time, slowly crush my soul.
Plus all the other spy movies and TV shows. Our man flint, the saint, danger man( secret agent man in the states), the avengers, even the Beatles (A hard days night). Etc...
Dr. Evil is based on James Bond's most famous villain, Ernst Stavro Blofeld. The scar on his face, which Blofeld also had, is a *dueling scar.* In 19th and 20th Century Germany, Austria and the German-speaking parts of Switzerland, fencing was considered a very brave and manly sport, and reserved only for members of the upper echelons of society. So when a man to have a dueling scar on his face, it meant that he was very brave and very _rich._ And, since it was mostly Germans during the time of the World Wars who had them, it was also a trait often associated with being a bad guy. Hence Blofeld's/Evil's dueling scar.
I believe he was inspired by Otto Skorzeny. This guy was as intelligent as he was ruthless. And despite his humble backgrounds, he was a VERY talented fencer when he was given a chance at college. His dueling scar (Schmiss) paired with his SS uniform made him look like the perfect villain. And he was...oh he was.
You have to forgive people from different cultures, but when she said, "Is that someone from NSYNC or something" cracked me up. I'm sure if Seth ever sees this he would, too. NSYNC seems like something he would parody on Robot Chicken. Maybe he has?!
An excellent Comedy Trilogy. The second is even better, and while the third is a bit of a step down, it's still very funny. Another great reaction, Ladies.👍 Cheers and salutations from Canada. 🥃☮❤

I actually didn't see this movie in theaters. I had _heard_ about it, but it was fresh in the minds of my boot camp division when I shipped off, and by and large, after we had all gotten our heads shaved, the division expressed the view that I resembled Dr. Evil and started recommending that I start answering questions from boot camp staff the way _he_ would.
This movie is one of the reasons you no longer see Adam Sandler, Rob Schneider ,Dana carvey associate with Mike Myers because apparently he stoled several of these characters from people on SNL at the time Dana carvey did an interview but apparently he had the original doctor evil character
Dr.evils son = Seth green famous for many things voice of Chris griffin from family guy. And he’s been on tv shows and movies since 90s also sure he once had a band. I could be wrong on that
thanks much i enjoyed virtual hug, check out the song ice ice baby by vanilla ice and the song under pressure by queen, which vanilla ice swears he didnt rip off for his one hit :)
The bit of the title scene at the beginning where Austen Powers hides and is chased round the corner was inspired by The Beatles film Hard Day’s Night.
36:11 "Really nice to watch with the kids. You know?" "With the kids?" Oh, no. This is not a _family_ movie. Don't watch it with any kids you may have, and don't watch it with your parents, _either._
The Japanese assassin shown throwing a shoe is a parody of James Bond - Goldfinger .... there was a Japanese assassin/hengeman just like him and he used a bowler hat ! 😝🤪
Another viewing of a movie that is a parody (007/Spy Genre) before watching the movies being parodied. Haha, love it. Loved the enthusiasm about the whole 'responsibility' we've taken upon ourselves in modern times 😅
"James Bond 007: You Only Life Twice" (1967) had a bad guy named Bloefeld played by Donald Pleasence. Bloefeld's look from this movie is the main inspiration for how Dr. Evil looks with the scar running down the side of his face. The plastic suit Dr. Evil wore was from (James Bond) "Dr. No." There are many gags and trope references to spy movies in this movie. Austin Powers' look is based on Sean Connery's James Bond (the body hair) and Michael Caine's spy films (the horn-rim glasses). For example; "Random Task" looks just like a character from (James Bond) "Goldfinger" named "Odd Job." Odd Job threw a bladed hat. Get it? Odd job... Random Task... Dr. Evil's voice is an impersonation of Saturday Night Live's creator Lorne Micheals. This is not the first time a comedy chose to give it's super-villain Lorne Micheals' voice; "Kids In The Hall: Brain Candy" did the same thing.
Great Reaction! Glad you both got most of the humour! They were over the top when they came out. It took us a minute too! Like. Wait. What?? Lol We saw all these when they came out. Then. Year's later. Hubby and i started watching them with our kids. Not remembering a Lot. Lol We made it through the first movie and gave up on watching any of the others with them. Oldest is 24 and not sure if we could make it through now. Just too many side eye glances between everybody. Hard to laugh about stuff like this when your parents are sitting right next to you. Lol They have watched them without us and we can joke and laugh about them all.
Hey girls I hope you watch the rest of the series as they get much better and funnier. Some real fun characters and celebrity appearences. Everyone in these movies is long famous. And most were or are comedians, musicians.
The bad guy in the Bond movies ALWAYS has a complicated death planned for Bond ! 🤪 (Like a slow moving lazer that would cut him in half ETC.) They could just shoot him like Scott says ! 😜
Probably would have been better if they watched some spy movies first, mainly the james bond ones since this is ultimately a parody of James Bond. So basically they aren't going to get any of the references.
Great reaction! I hope yall check out the sequels. I grew up with Goldmember (the third one) came out. I was like 6 and i had it on dvd so its my fav. All three movies are hilarious. The third one has Beyonce in it.
Fun fact: as Dr. Evil, Mike Myers is impersonating Lorne Michaels, the producer of Saturday Night Live. Not so fun fact: Joe Son, who played Random Task (shoe thrower) is in prison for a 34 years to life sentence for torture during a 1990 sexual assault and voluntary manslaughter of his cellmate in 2011.
He was also a UFC fighter in the very early days of the sport. Famously losing a fight after getting a guy in a head lock and the guy punching him in the balls a dozen times to escape lol
VH ladies. Oh, please give us more Jamaican vocabulary in your videos. I really enjoy learning words and phrases from other countries. You will get some of your questions answered in the following sequels. Keep up the great reactions.
Loved this reaction. Hello from Ireland, you just earned a sub! It's always interesting to me (aged 39) to watch younger people react to these films: 'Cos when they came out the films assumed the viewer would have an awareness of the Bond movies it's parodying. I wonder how much of the humour is lost now that so many younger folks clearly miss so much of that satire. I mean, the film is still funny, but I guess that depth is gone and literally so many of the jokes (the puns around the characters' names and the whole Blofeld/Dr Evil thing etc being obvious examples).
Now you have to watch all the 007 James Bond movies with Sean Connery, along with a few episodes of the Avengers. Then, the next time you watch Austin Powers, you will get all the jokes.
I was traumatised at work in 1997 after this come out. Everyone was saying "yeah baby, yeah" and "shagadelic" for everything. It got old really quick. Great reaction, thanks for posting.

Just an FYI, Vanilla Ice was a musician famous in the 80s and early 90s(mostly the 90s). He dropped out of cultural relevance pretty quickly due to some legal trouble.
Great movie, Mike Myers plays 3 people, Austin Powers, Dr. Evil, and Fat Bastard. All the Austin Powers movies are very good, they are a parody of the James Bond films. You should also watch all the Naked Gun movies, they are really good too. Vanilla Ice is a famous white rapper from many years ago, he had a top hit called Ice Ice Baby, google it. It's actually a pretty good song, from the 80's I think.
It’s depressing you don’t know vanilla ice, he was huge in the 80’s mainly because he ripped off Queen, who sued him back into the dark ages. You may have heard under pressure, Freddie mercury and David Bowie, if I hear it, I think ice, ice, baby…as that was what we heard in the 80’s It was the early days of rap becoming mainstream, and a white rapper with a fantastic baseline and catchy lyrics was ridiculously popular, until it was revealed he’d basically just ripped off under pressure by Queen and David Bowie.

And also read up on Vanilla Ice apparently 😂
