Blame the people. They are the ones asking for those passenger services, but at the same time, they do not want to pay full price for it. The result is heavy congestion, overutilization, and eventually disasters. No other railway network in the world (yes, including China) moves people at the level of the Indian Railways.

Excellent reporting, especially the detail about the (possible) signal/points wiring issues following maintenance; details which are at the moment still unconfirmed but do sound plausible. If they're right then it was a broadly similar event to the Clapham rail crash in the UK. That led to various changes, both in proceedures and the elimiantion of older rolling stock which was less crashworthy. Sadly it takes events like this to improve rail safety and the same goes for air travel as well. It's a never ending process but the result is that both air and rail are now vastly safer that driving a car.

Accidents happen in Europe, but very rarely. Last year, 43 people died in a train accident in Greece. Immediately the country's transport minister resigned. Multiple reason for accidents. Over usage of tracks, overcrowding of wagon, Old tracks, Incorrect maintenance, Not enough sensors, powerful trains (so much power tracks are unable to handle), open tracks and many more smaller things. even if one of them go wrong, accident is bound to happen. Accidents have happened in past, is happening now and will happen in future. too much things to correct. Indian railways knows the problems but redtape and corruption in system will not allow it to transform quickly. Too many contractors are there. if change is fast, they will go bankrupt. Installing a LoRaWAN _(tansmit and receive, TX RX)_ on each train and also on some track _(masts probably, even mounted on those pre-existing high structures)_ would mean that, even if the track points _(junction switches and so forth)_ do not have sensors on them _(which BTW is also an option and could be done with some multiplexers and gate-array or FPGA),_ the trains _(on a small computer and screen and so on)_ would be able to detect the _(cryptographically marked)_ chirps from a long distance _(bearings, azimuth, velocity, altitude, longitude, latitude which can be displayed in WaterML mapping software deriving from its data)_ and safety measures would activate, so collisions would be prevented and there would be a bunch of reliability metrics too from it all stored as data on the track mast computer and train computer. It would be worth having a LiFi inside the carriage too which passengers could use, and they could also use LoRaWAN for tiny amounts of data, little more than _(upload, TX)_ mouse-clicks at the rate of morse code maximum per uniquely coded train ticket to navigate say a GUI _(but unlikely to transmit as much as text other than say an SMS worth in a journey),_ and the GUI would come (download, RX) over the LiFi which faster but not as fast as Wifi _(and yet won't interfere with WiFi)_ but at a modest speed because the daylight in the window would impede its signal. However, it would be robust enough for hash-checksums (cryptography too) with prepping-data and OpenSSH _(like vimwiki with po addon-plugin translation and sc-im spreadhseets, all via DPA2018 and PECR2003)_ with telemetry, and secondarily, probably fine for casual browsing but not hi-def TH-cam videos and so maybe a 480p Ogg-Vorbis Theora stream _(with SRT subtitles)_ if not limiting to QVGA _(and EDR A2DP bluetooth 2.1 could be a backup bandwidth to use on radio spectrum)._ By means of communications redundancy in this way _(thereby not stuck only on wifi with channel worries and bitrate failing)_ everybody choosing to use the tech _(say by a USB dongle)_ is in the know. Costing is low.
Eventually some trains might also (additionally) have 6G for positional data, but not "instead" of the LoRaWAN and Lifi (and bluetooth) system.
My comment has no hate in it and I do no harm. I am not appalled or afraid, boasting or envying or complaining... Just saying. Psalms23: Giving thanks and praise to the Lord and peace and love. Also, I'd say Matthew6.

yeah thought I was the only one thinking that. it was not just BBC, I've seen crime documentaries, or interviews, or devastating incidents like this across TH-cam with some sort of fun or exciting or thrilling (which makes no difference to me) music as though they are supposed to be exciting or thrilling for views like fiction while they are all tragedies and actually happened and some people are still suffering from the trauma. It's a trend actually. I see it all the time like everywhere and I was like "wtf, am I the only one thinking this shouldn't be some little exciting entertainment?"
