It's pretty cool that you own your own. I work for Mercury here in NZ. I'm part of the team that takes care of north hydro on the Waikato river, but I spend most of my time at Karapiro (closer to home) where we can produce ~126MW, but generally produce ~70MW. You didn't mention the rating of your generators, but I saw one in the video that is 300KW. I didn't know there were so many small hydro sites in the US until I started watching a few videos here on TH-cam. Keep up the good work and don't forget that all the old steel mills that have long since gone away used very similar technologies to generate DC. You may find some of the parts you need in holding yards near these places.
I’ve always wanted to visit NZ. Hydro is such a great way to generate clean power. The nameplate rating on the generators is 900Kw, 450Kw, and 2ea. @ 185Kw. The 300Kw was recently rewound and we were able to increase the nameplate.
Very impressive nicely maintained old Hydro powerhouses . Saw you had a SEL 700G multifunction relay for a generator protection relay installed which is a perfect upgrade for a small hydro plants . Also noticed the ballast weights mounted to the wicket shift ring for closing energy perhaps? Were the governors on these units originally belt driven "Gate shaft "Governors?
Thanks for the compliment. The 700G’s are great. They were installed during a control system upgrade in 2018. The ballasts are to assist in closing the wicket gates. The units originally had belt driven fly ball governors but these were upgraded in the mid 80’s. If you’re ever in Kettle Falls stop by for a tour.
The method of generating power has not changed much over the last 125 years or so. The methods of monitoring and control have, but the old stuff still works great. I would hope that the condition of the penstocks have been checked, as the weight of water can really do damage, if there is a weak spot.
The old analog control system was originally installed in 1915 and ran until 2018. We kept some of the marble panels and installed them for their historical value. It was a lot of fun operating the old analog system but it was time for an upgrade.

Mr. Hendrickson, My dad has manufactured hydro power plants for many years. His company was Almanor Machine Works, at Lake Almanor, CA. He is now 97 yo, and I want to take him on a "Hydro journey" for his last hoorah. We would like to visit your facility, if at all possible. Yes, Mike Johnson is my wife’s dad. He purchased Meyers Falls in 1998 from Avista.

I love tasmania, we have full standalone electrical capability of running 100% on hydroelectical power
