That fact that all those grown men left that tiny woman to be assaulted was pivotal for me. It is haunting and unfortunately not unbelievable.

Unpopular opinion: without Chrystale Wilson (Ronnie) and Bernie Mac (Dolla Bill), the movie wouldn’t be as memorable as it is today even though they were both problematic 💀.

All these years later I did not realize that St. Louis only wanted $10k of the $60k that he was owed. He honestly was a lot more patient than I would have been in that situation. He was damn near reasonable and Dollar Bill was a whole mess and a half for not paying that man!
And Im pretty sure he had it, he just didnt want to pay him. All the special services Ronnie and Trix were doing....

I never understood how Ebony could hear a story about her cousin getting raped, and then laugh at her cousin's assault. As well as hang out with the woman that raped her cousin and didn't think anything bad would happen? Ebony was REALLY blind
I don’t believe they explained it to Ebony as a rape but tried to make it seem like Ronnie and diamond “hooked up” which was not the truth. Of course though diamond was obviously too shocked and traumatized to defend herself , which is also why Ronnie and trix were still walking free and working at the club even after diamonds SA .

The problem I have with Diamond though is, why did she think it was a good idea to bring Ebony to the Player's Club, especially after that happened? This made no sense to me.

I’m a dancer, the fucked up thing is that there really are girls who prey on the younger weaker ones. It’s fucked up but I’ve seen it. That rap3 scene was scary af but the scariest scene for me was the memory of Ronnie taking Diamond while knocked out.

Nobody else thought the dad was hella inconsistent? He was all against her going to a “nigga college” but didn’t seem to mind her being a stripper since by that point, their relationship had been mended. He had crazy energy for Jamie Foxx character, but didn’t seem to mind Lance even though they met at the club lol idk maybe I’m thinking too hard about it

If anything, Diamond wanted to protect Ebony from what she experienced as a stripper. The problem was Ebony was loose, a little too loose. Once she got a taste of that lifestyle, it was hard to get through to her. Diamond had no other choice but to let Ebony learn these lessons on her own. It's just sad what she experienced in order for her to learn. I'm glad Ebony wised up in the end.
P.S.: If I was Little Man, I would've given up Dolla's ass to St. Louis a long time ago. Not gonna have me going through torture because he don't wanna pay on time.

Looking back at the SA scene between Ebony and Junior at his bachelor party, his friends were appalled and disgusted by his actions but made no attempt to bust in and stop him and just dipped. They were just at fault for Ebony being assaulted as they were witnesses and overall were guilty by association. I also wonder who called the police on Junior moments after?

That part pissed me off! They knew what was going down and instead of busting in that room and pulling Junior off of Ebony and calling the police, the men just left.

You can’t make your kids go to a college that you want them to go to. At the end of the day, a child is going to go to a school that’s either giving them the most money or has the best program for their major (or to just get away from their parents and hometown period). e.g. I’m attending Salisbury University in the fall of this year, but I didn’t choose to go there because my mother graduated from there (she was a social work major) I went there because one: it’s close to home, two: Salisbury has an excellent teacher’s program and three: Salisbury is going to accept three of my TAM (Teacher Academy of Maryland) credits from high school and give me money every year per semester for being in the TAM program.
It is the parents' prerogative in how to spend their money ..

This movie was a gem. I didn’t even pick up on what Ronnie did to diamond until I was much older. I can say Ronnie with her predator ass was serving looks. The scene before Marvin went to Diamond's house, you'll see Ronnie in a car staring at her. So since Ronnie had dropped Ebony off several times I just assumed Ronnie told him or showed him where Diamond lived.
I found this movie again a few weeks ago and was excited to revisit hood classics of my childhood but soon realized how dark this whole movie was 😔 I don’t think we give strippers enough empathy. Yes they chose that lifestyle but all the predators/rapes/drugs/etc that come with it shouldn’t be accepted
But all that violence and depravity is why people told them not to embrace that life, so in a weird way it's like karma. Same way we accept drug dealers/street dudes will be shot. It is what it is.

Anybody noticed dude asked Ronnie to go outside and smoke but everybody was already smoking in the room. And if she was already down to r@pe other strippers why was she so distraught about ebony. By end of the movie Ronnie seemed like she was tired of the bullshit but was willing to keep acting hard or predatory. This movie is definitely a hood classic. The crazy part about it was although LisaRaye ( I only wear white) Mccoy & Bernie Mac became huge stars after this Crystal Wilson who played Ronnie ( the real star of the film) really disappeared 🤷🏾♂️.....I really think directors & producers thought she was a real life stripper.

What bothers me the most is not only is it a bachelor party and junior is "getting married", but Ebony is only 18. Technically still a child. you can tell ronnie was about to do the right thing when ahe got mad at her brother but she was scared of what he did & she left with him instead of staying to make sure ebony was okay. she dropped the ball with that & THAT was what got her whooped
What I find really interesting is that during the latter half of the movie you see Ebony dye her hair from brown to blond, who else has blond hair in this movie? And she has a very aggressive attitude towards Reggie and Clyde. In fact, she starts speaking to them the same way that Ronnie was speaking to the ATF agents earlier. I guess since Ebony no longer lives with Diamond she feels like the best person that she can emulate now would be Ronnie. Ronnie is a confident, fun, and takes no-shit type of person. Ebony wants to be like that, she just had no idea what the cost would be

Watching “Players Club”, it reminds me of the video vixens of the 90’s and early 2000’s. They weren’t making being a video vixen a permanent thing. They were doing just to make extra cash while pursuing other things . A lot of the video vixens from the 90’s and early 2000’s are doing really well for themselves. A lot of them started their own business, married with kids, are authors, and college graduates. This little Instagram girls today can learn something from them.

Id love to see a prequel on Ronnie's life. There is so much unexplored depth to get character. What happened to her to make her so ruthless and cold? Who was HER Ronnie? What environment did her and that crazy brother grow up in? How did her and trix get so close?
The fact that they left while Ebony was being assaulted isn't at all a stretch... I was attacked by a man at a club setting because I turned down his advances.. I couldn't have been more polite while doing so... So many Men around and no one came to my defense... But Women who I didn't even know did.... Now I'm certain that a lot of men out here would have came to my defense but that night, if it wasn't for those ladies I would have been seriously hurt... More so than I was... I suppose a smile and a No thank you is triggers to be attacked... It's truly a sad reality of the times.

The one thing I always disliked about this movie is they treated Ronnie's queerness as a catalyst to her being straight up evil towards Diamond. She was a predator for sure but not cause she was queer. She was just an evil ass person who only thought of herself and didn't care who she hurt to get to where she wanted to be. The fashion kills counter was so on point tho. Ronnie got on my everlasting nerves but baby she could dress! Lol

Man, if I were Blue, I would've capped Ronnie in the head for good measure after Diamond beat her down. That woman had a Jezebel Spirit in her, and it was going to be exorcised one way or another - her brother had it too, so he was going to get probably two bullets. Trixie would've gotten it in her legs along with Dolla Bill (I couldn't kill Bernie Mac, just saying lol).
I'm glad Ebony was okay in the end. I just wish she didn't have to learn the lesson the hard way. Bad and lost as she was, no woman deserves that... never that.
Spot on per usual! I was like let me watch it before it gets taken down (fingers crossed that it doesn’t). Soooo many good points made in this film. Someone said in the live stream that Diamond’s father was cool (delusional) for her to strip but not ok for her to attend an HBCU (of which I’m a graduate). But anywho, I agreed with all of what was analyzed. Just traumatic and toxic behaviors. I especially agree with the comment of the r*pe scene with Ebony and JR, the friends were disgusted by the act but wasn’t motivated enough to help her out. I guess they didn’t want the smoke or testify in court. I have another film suggestion: A Rage in Harlem (Forest Whitaker, Robin Givens).

3.) Things about this movie that get me: First how Ebony walks around the apartment in her underwear in front of Diana's boyfriend and not covering herself. Girls can't say its the all the men's fault for looking at the a certain way if they lead them on on purpose the way they dress or act in front of them; two: Diana going to school and working to make ends meet while rasing her son as a single mom and my favorite part in the movie was Diana standing up for cousin and those who have to work hard to get what they want and warning Ebony about Ronnie. Not only because their family, but she's been through it herself and it made me extremely angey that Ronnie said that her alibi was that she had no idea what happened to Evony when she not only knew, but she allowed the same thing happened to Diana. I mean, you can't be "friends" with people, hurt people and except everyone to like you. I just wish Ebony listened to Diana when she tried to help her in the first place. "Make the money. Don't let it make you." So true and so yet deep. Strong words from a young black woman.
The only unbelievable thing about this movie is that any shoe store hired Ebony with her face looking like that.
This was another good one! You were so right about watching this as an adult. I have to say that even when I watched it as a kid, Ronnie kind of scared me. I knew homegirl was no good. This movie definitely, I think, was a cautionary tale.
The low-key real tea is of this movie is...Ronnie high key was conflicted about Diamond.
She legit had a one-sided love/hate relationship with Diamond the entire movie because IMO...she high key sexuallt desired Diamond.
Like the fact that it was Ronnie who scoped out Diamond in the first place. She knows potenial when she sees it
But at the same time her slapping Diamond's ass at every opportunity low key told on her simultaneous desire for and competition with her.
Its also why she jumped at the chanxe to set Diamond up ro be violated. Ronnie wasnt dumb...she knew those men liked to see girl and girl action and she used that scenario to get Diamond drunk so she could have her way.
She also targeted Diamond's cousin as a way to lash out at Diamond because she resented being attracted to her rival.
Its like...literally love hate. You could even make the argument that Ronnie wasnt even fully cognizant of she felt about Diamond, but rhat didn't stop her from acting on pure instinct
