- Big Tractor Power is out in the field at a plow day. This video will high light three high horse power 2wd tractors you would have seen plowing and disking together in the early 1970's during spring tillage. Watch for a 175 hp JOHN DEERE 6030, 161 hp INTERNATIONAL 1566 and a 100 hp OLIVER 1900 FWA tractor.

All those tractors are nice, but that 6030 John deere is a bad boy.
Great Video. We had a 5020 row crop in the early 1970s. I recall that my uncle buried it to the axles plowing in the muck. We chained barn timbers to the duals and crawled it out. What a mess!

As a Deere fan I naturally gravitate to the 6030.However,I understand the cost savings of an open station,but here in Georgia the sun gets really hot,and everything on those tractors get hot,so I would choose at least a canopy for it.I had the chance to buy one years ago from a bank,but the tractor was high hour and needed a lot of work.Biy do I wish I would have had the money to restore it,but alas I didn't.
Nothing better than listening to that detroit scream, that is unless you are the one operating it! Our farm has a 1800 Oliver, and the original 1935 allis WD that was the first tractor to come to the farm on steel wheels. We now have close to 20 tractors, but the Oliver’s are my favorite.
Same here. Grandad only had one Oliver 1800 mfw and it was a beast for his 100 acre dairy farm in NY. Lots of memories with that machine. He had most brands but not a JD. Never knew why.

He is having a hard time keeping that 6030 under control.
7 bottoms is allot to pull. I drive a 6030 recently on the sane style 2500 plow with 5 bottoms. The tires want to turn on you. You have to keep them turned hard to fight the pull.
Very cool to see. These were the machines of my youth. Of these three, in this video the 1566 was my favorite.

That John Deere 6030 is a beast for sure
He should have been pulling a On land plow he was having to fight the steering wheel trying to keep it on the straight and narrow furrow
We had a 6030 but without the turbo it something like 95 hp. No way it could have pulled a 7 furrow plough. It could pull a 3 furrow reversible or a 4 furrow semi mounted. But it spun out quite easily and hung on the rear axle. Low ground clearance. A nice tractor none the less.

Nobody ever mentions the size of the plow bottoms. They can run from 14” to 22”.
They are not mentioned because this was at a plow day and I did not meet the owner so I did not have a way to find out the size.

On the farm I grew up on, I drove an Oliver 1900 with front axle assist. No duals. I pulled either a 16 foot disc or a 12 foot field cultivator. I am amazed I can hear anything. Our other big tractor was a Oliver / White 2155, which had yellow paint under the green and a MM on the steering wheel. The farm and equipment all were sold off years ago. The only big tractor that my brother kept is the MM G1000 dad bought new in 1969.

Having grown up on a Farmall/International farm, I loooove that 1566.
The 1566 is one of my favorite IH tractors.
Lots of memories riding in open station tractors as a kid and sitting on the fenders. I love that.

I farmed nights and weekends for ~18 years.. Loved this video. I took a JD 5020 and put a 619 ci 8630 motor in it.
Lots of little stuff to do, but was a screamer.... pulled a 12 shank chisel and 18 foot disc like it wasn't even there... Loved it..

Worked for a guy that had a 1566 loved that beast in the field or on the silage blower, at 215 hp she was a workhorse
We ran Deere mostly, but Dad got a 1570 Case in 1980 it was a beast also.
All I can say is “wow” This is amazing, keep up the great work i love what you do.
Awesome video! So nice when you find filming-worthy ag in NY...and this is definitely it! My Fav's are the JD 6030 outfit...that guy really deserves a lot of credit to put a period-correct outfit together like that and you're right, you hardly see those 2500 plows....you're the only one who's ever talked about them too...I can't figure out why Deere scrapped them so quickly. IH 700 series were so successful and when Deere came out with the 2600, they seemed to decline in the quality of job they did in rolling over the furrows...especially a 2800. My Great Uncle had bought a new JD 2800 plow and JD 4440 in 1981 from JP Halpin and sons and my father bought a new IH 1086 and IH 720 5 btm plow from Saxby Implement...the 1086 would lap the 4440 (bc of better weight displacement/traction), and turn a much better furrow. Love that IH 1566 outfit and disk too....direct competition for the JD 6030! That IH 1566 is a beauty! GREAT VIDEO JASON!

my dad bought an oliver 1655 new in 1972 and remember plowing with it, i only have red in my shed
The 6030 is fun to watch ...however, this unit is not set up for plowing as shown. The tires are way too big for the furrow....See 2:15 for a good view why.

We pulled a 5-18 behind a black stripe IH1066,, and a 5-16 behind our IH856
Alien Dreadnoughts, Mechazillas, exploding Starships, OneWheels Not Pint...you just *IMAGINE* the hardware the USA makes that right now and even more amazingly enough absolutely "for quite some time now" absolutely. I definitely remember growing up around the Local Hardware Store and thinking they had *EVERYTHING* back in the day.
Love that Oliver, but I’d put a muffler on it to tame some of that noise.

Those tires on the John Deere 6030 look kind of huge for such a small tractor. 😮
Those rear tires came on 5020s also and the 5020 on a farm I worked on had big flotation tires on the front about the size of these.
@@freedomrings1420 Yep, those massive floater tires, especially the ones on the rear, were probably absolutely necessary on those re-powered ones with 8V-71T two stroke diesels (which there are videos of both here in particular and elsewhere on TH-cam if you look) in order to put the sheer power of those behemoths to the ground more effectively.
The diamond transportation tires that came on these tractors originally were a lot narrower than these ones these are turf tractor tires or swather tires r5020 head 24/5-32 tires on the back and I believe 9 00 -16 three bar tires on the front plus it was fully weighted front and rear and had water all the way around and we never had any traction issues it was a row crop tractor too but since it was only used for field work they put big tires on it

Would have love to have a 6030 when I was farming in my earlier years, would have made for easier winter dormant spraying here in NorCal
The soil seems so dry in the video. Im in west central Illinois and we desperately need rain. No moisture 6-8 inches down. Its all gone. And we need it, we have everything planted.
The IH 1566 was a good tractor to have on a 12 row 30" inch cultivator and pulled a 27 foot disk

Had a neighbor that summered with a 6030 and chopped corn with a 1566

To much plow for the 6030 he cant even keep it straight and has to keep lifting the plow so why not go with a smaller plow?....i guess some people need to show off
It’s a plow day so it’s just for fun. Most likely that was the plow available. The 2500 plow is rare so to me it was a cool combo.
Seems a waste of time disking after plowing. We are 100% no till.
