This isn't really a world of call signs and codenames replacing individuality. Control insists they call him that and they actually think it's pretty weird. The assistant director mocks him for it
But consider the fact that none of the expedition members in Annihilation have names, that they are all referred to by their jobs. Most characters through the first two books don’t have names.
@@LaserTagLeague I think this was supposed to be because you didn't really want to have relationships with your expedition partners as it could either taint the results of your exploration or hasten the disintegration of the expedition itself.
You are really good at reviewing, it is equally interesting before and after having read the actual book. Can we hope for a review of Acceptance to complete the trilogy?
I do expect to see ANNIHILATION as an awards contender at the very least. Though if we are now qualifying entire series for Best Novel nominations (as with The Wheel of Time for this year's Hugos), the Southern Reach trilogy as a whole could conceivably merit a nod depending on how the third novel turns out.
There was nothing earth shattering in the third book. If you'd made it thus far, give up while you still can because this was the biggest waste of a time trilogy I have ever read. The first book is an obvious hook to get you to buy the second two.

@@LaserTagLeague that's more a quirk of the Southern Reach than the world at large, though.

Your reviews are seriously the best. I'm adding this book right now to the To Be Read short list.

well-spoken and well-reviewed. thanks for all the great reviews, Tom!
Thank you
You are an excellent reviewer, I even listen to you after I read the books, thank you!
I appreciate that! Thanks!
This is a fantastic review.
Many thanks.
I knew that I recognized your voice from AXP!
So cool to randomly find that you do book reviews!
Can't wait to watch and thank you.
Cheers!
Great!
After watching this I'm certainly going to add this to the list. Do you think it will be mentioned come Hugo/Nebula season next year?

Nice

Authority sucks- control as a character is not interesting and it wasted so much time being with him the whole time
I think it’s a misunderstood entry in the series, but I am about to give the whole thing a re-read so we’ll see what I think after ten years.
