Great video! A huge hotel and one of the best in Sandown in its heyday. Holiday preferences have changed so much from the 60s and 70s. I worked there one Summer. Early 80s. Hall porter. It was full of coach parties then. It should be redeveloped as affordable housing for local Sandown folk. ❤.
I get angry every time I walk past it, so sad to see the dump it has turned into now. I did see video of it in the 1960s and it looked fantastic back then.
Would that have been the Conways? There was a Mr Zante, manager of the restaurant, who, if you were late, would say 'Time and tide wait for no man'. I used to think he was well read for saying this until I saw it was written on the wall at Sandown library :-) Enjoyed working here but sadly it's upkeep was impossible to keep with the decline in tourists.

my Grandparents owned this hotel in the early 80s - heartbreaking to see it like this. Would love to buy it and restore it

The Kings' House/Hotel also derelict? That's where Charles Darwin started work on The Origin of Species
