Originally on the primetime version, the two contestants stayed on for the entire show. That changed to two new contestants for each game after one won over $1000 on one show. A contestant winning that much money made CBS nervous, due to the quiz show scandals from a few years previous, hence the change in the rules.
All the players seemed to have no concept of bearing in mind previous clues given for a word before shouting out their answers. I guess the game was too new for players to have a complete understanding of strategies necessary to play well and win. This kind of a game would have never have been played in later years by those who had really watched the show before. An interesting view.
It's kind of funny that Betty McCulloch were from Corpus Christi, Texas, just like me. I mean, it is rare that there were few contestants from Corpus Christi appeared in a few classic game shows which is very neat.
@wmlfan9 No, the word has been around longer than one might think. A scheme like that was named after an infamous businessman from Italy, Charles Ponzi, born in 1882, died in 1949.
@bluebear1985 Thanks for the info, bluebear. I like to watch old movies from the Thirties on TCM and I am constantly being surprised to hear words and phrases that I had assumed were of more recent vintage.
Poor Carroll looked like she really wanted to be somewhere else... anywhere else. Rather uncomfortable episode all the way around. Probably a long 30 min. for Allen too.
Carroll Baker was a skilled Black Belt in both Judo and Jiu Jitsu.
