So far Spyderco Salt 2 has been the best tool for this dangerous task, but the big Pacific would be a bit better.

@@richardcoiner3888 its simply not necessary in my experience for a stream knife (in my particular situation). I am in no way a great knife flicker but I can reliably flick mine open with a thumb, but then my nails are a fair bit longer than Nicks. I also find that despite the size it scares few folk here & NZ is not a place where many people have pocket knives (farmers & divers have big fixed blades, tradies usually have a gas station quality knife knocking around). I suspect this is because both have bright plastic scales & look like a mixture of toy & tool but not weapon. And maybe it's a backlock like what we all used when camping? I live a few minutes from the beach & my VG10 is just fine (no rust) but if I had a boat I'd be trading up to this lime green baby. Good review BTW.

Love me H1 Pacific Salt! But it has a very low use philosophy as I carry it only when doing water activities like surfing or swimming in my pool. So edge retention is less a factor but I really want this steel in the yellow salt dragonfly!
@@starkparker16 The knife makes it so very easy to carry. Besides when in very hot SW low desert wearing pool attire can be an all day... evening, night and morning sort of thing so a swimwear dedicated rust proof blade is a excellent option.
I think H1 would still be a great choice for like a neck knife (such as the Spyderco Ark) or another edc knife that you use as a backup or something where it doesn’t see much use so that the edge retention is considerably less of an issue.
I know its almost the exact same color as the Z-Hunter, but I actually love this color, and not just for the hi-vis characteristics. It's just really attractive to me, especially for FRN
I was not an endura fan till I took it to the Kitchen. Now I am in love. Modest Christmas present to myself but this is going to join my purple Endura in my kitchen.

I have a Spyderco Byrd Rescue 2, with "substandard" steel. Size wise it's very similar to this knife, but much(!) less expensive at about $30 or so. $100 for this as shown? BUY it. My Byrd is hands-down my favorite EDC knife. This (or any similar) is going to make you every bit as happy as my Byrd does. Sometimes Spyderco knocks one out of the park, and this is one of those magic moments. If you can't afford $100, get a BYRD and spend a lot less for nearly equal quality. Either way, the size, weight, and handle texture make this a home run for EDC.
I got this one in yellow last year. Carrying it now in France. Would like to get a serrated model maybe the Tasman hawkbill. Got the knife for swimming will probably go to Vietnam, might get the Tasman hawkbill serrated also for my buddy in Ho Chi Minh. I wonder if I can email the factory in Seki City and have them mail to me from closer than Golden Colorado? Any thoughts on the serrated model versus the plain edge?
I wholeheartedly agree with you on the chamfering. Several of the more recent Spyderco/Byrd knives I've bought were nowhere near as comfortable as older ones. The back lock, the spine edge, and the hole have all been much sharper than I like. It just shows a bit more attention to detail when those edges are just a bit less sharp.
This was mt first spyderco I bought like 8 months ago after watching the salt lake torture test needed a good fishing knife and I've never oiled it it's been out away wet and not a speck of rust on it great knife.
Used mine with H1 steel all summer on the boat on the ocean in RI all summer. Very happy with the blade, not a spot of rust. Stayed sharp all summer. Albeit I was mostly cutting line, mono and braid. Good choice for saltwater fisherman for sure.
Should have come much sooner. I'm using a green spray painted endura as my dedicated diving knife. I repainted it several times because in black it's invisible underwater.
The original Pacific Salt had rustproof hardware, I cant find anything on the PS 2 but I doubt they changed it. From Spyderco's website: "All internal steel parts are treated as well making them practically impervious to rust, pitting and of course, salt."
LC200N will definitely rust. My waterway rusted when it was kept in the sheath. (Exposed to sea water) .. You can't completely ignore LC200N like you can H1, but it is a much better cutting steel.
Blade HQ did a test on LC200N with 3 weeks in the great salt lake water. It did fine; GSL (great salt lake) water is like 13.5% salinity to the ocean at 3.5 ish?
@@awwwshucks443 Yeah H1 is a good steel for what it is meant to do. My brother needs a fishing knife as a birthday gift 😅 so i’m between H1 or LC200N probably find some cheap Lc200N or get a H1 steel and sharpen it all the damn time idk.
My reason to go for H1 is the yellow scale, my favorite color. But I wouldn't mind the green scale. They are lime and lemon, also my favorite flavor in ice cream.
H1 is likely going to be better in full serrated knives since that's a place where the hollow grind is an advantage and Spyderco claims the edge retention shoots up since it work hardens at the serrations to 67rc or thereabouts
Even plain edge is compelling as it is one of the easiest materials to get screaming sharp. Doesn't seem to matter if I use ceramic, diamond stones, natural stones, or abrasive compounds on strops (both stiff substrate & leather), it all works great.
