    Thank you, Alec for yet another good video. However, one check I would add to the reg checklist: one should also check the 1st stage end of the hoses. Remove the hose protector and check that the hose is in good condition also near the connector.

    Another great video, Alec. Thank you. I'm glad to see you're healthy and taking precautions during the Covid-19 crisis. It's interesting to hear you talk about how long a BC should stay inflated after cleaning. I've been following your tips about how to clean and maintain a BC since before I got mine. I wash it inside and out using BC cleaner, flush it repeatedly with fresh, clean water. and use the inflator valve attachment for your water hose that flushes out the inflator valve to make sure the mechanism is as free of salt and other crud as possible. I even apply a little silicone oil to the rubber diaphragms in the purge valves at the end of the season. I hung my BC up last summer after cleaning it, inflated it...and it's still inflated and tight right now. It hasn't lost any pressure. It's been this way for the last 6 years, it just doesn't lose pressure. I guess I just got really lucky, or I credit your advice and expertise because it certainly wasn't my know-how that ensured my equipment is in as good a condition as it is. You're great; keep the tips coming and continue to stay safe! Josh

    excellent video!! Gonna go dive on June 22 with my buddy. ONe question tho, is it a good idea to tie a line on a rock and reel it in after the dive so that we don't get lost?

      You should have some way to return, either a line or compass or a landmark. Maybe a U/W navigation course for confidence.

    Hi Alec, thanks for another great video. Can you help me with the size of the coupling on the low pressure hose that goes to the second stage reg. As i understand its 9/16 UNF but its not standard hose fitting as it has another piece inside with an o-ring that slips inside the reg coupling to create air tight seal. I have to make my own hoses for my hookah setup, in the past i have cut one end off a standard scuba hose and fitted a tema fitting, however the hose is too narrow. I would rather use a wider diameter hose and fit a new fittings that go to the regulator and a tema fitting on the other end, i just cant seem to find these fitting. seems no coupling manufactures list specific scuba couplings. Appreciate any help you can offer.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like lots of unknown that I'm not comfortable giving a partial answer to something as important as hose connections. Recommend taking your setup to a local dive store, explain what you want and work to find a solution. While there, test it on a tank and if they have a pool, jump in (with someone watching), and try it out before going into deep water.

    If your BC is still fully inflated overnight it may well be excellent. But maybe one or more dump valves may have just welded themselves closed. When you inflate the BC, check all the valves several times for function, then leave it overnight. Oh, and never store gear where there are spiders or rodents; that way you won't eat the first and the second won't eat your gear, LOL.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter

      @@AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter Always a pleasure to watch. I treat Scuba kit as you would a car. Not driven, a car's oil seals harden, the aircon leaks, bushes stiffen and the tyres go square. BCs and regs are designed to get wet regularly and as you say also deteriorate if not used for a long period. At the moment I'm getting them out every few weeks and giving them a rinse, bolting on a tank and exercising all the valves. And if you still have a torch that uses the old style AA or AAA batteries, I'd take those out as well. Lithium-ion batteries of course don't turn nasty so I just leave those alone. When diving re-starts I absolutely support the getting used to the kit again and going through some drills in a controlled environment before trying anything challenging.

    So I’m getting interested in diving and was wondering want size tank to get. Should I get a 30 cu tank or a 80cu tank for for min to be under. Also if I did get a 30 cu tank how many minutes would I get.

    • @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter
      @AlecPeirceScuba_SeaHunter  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The minimum tank for a grown man is 80 cu/ft. The exception is my wife can dive beside be in a 65 cu/ft and surface with more air than I do. Tanks 30 cu/ft and under are primarily redundant air or bail out, not your primary tank. Visit you local dive store to compare 80 aluminum vs steel that best fits your body (shape, height, strength, etc). Thanks for watching Clay.

    Tank: you didn't answer if your air is 12,18,24+ months old. A local diver died recently with apparently very old air (don't know how many years) as it was low on O2 content - something about metal eating at the O2 over time ?

    • @Diverz7312
      @Diverz7312 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Was he using a steel tank ? This is one of the reasons tanks need visuals. Oxidation/ rust in the tanks will use up O2 in the tank. Or so the old timers use to say.
