Its a fairly simple one that took me maybe a day or two. I used procreate for the drawing process, and FlipaClip to animate it, before using capcut for the blinking effect. I really want to make more CH memes but these take so much time and timing the animations on the beat is really tough ;-;
The first time I heard the original, the title of the song I thought fit really well with how the Indigenous Peoples welcomed Europeans with open arms and kindness but were cast aside and put through suffering instead, thus the title “i hope you love me back”. With the Canada person I drew here, the faces are split in two where one side represents the dark colonizer side of the country (splatters of blood) and the other side is the victim and has more somber expressions (with blood dripping from its own face). The designs of the clothes were also simplified because animation is hARd D:
The historical context… a very complicated one that was very simplified in this animation. I can never do it justice and only wanted to express it in my own drawings to the best of my ability. I don’t mean to offend anyone and the message is not to hate on my country but rather acknowledge the past wrongdoings.
