sadly, all the classic country singer are underrated or not known. i bet you, nowadays people only know Johnny Cash and Willie Nelson as classic country singers and people nowadays listen to those garbage Pop-Country shits and call themselves Country music lover
I so hope Johnny Paycheck is in Heaven. I recently heard Duane Allen of the Oak Ridge Boys tell the story that Merle Haggard had accepted Jesus as his Savior before he died. Allen also talked about how the love and mercy of Jesus covered the sins of the thief on the cross who pleaded for forgiveness. For me, a sin-scarred person who has failed in life in so many ways, I can only hope and pray that God one day will allow me to see and hear Johnny Paycheck sing The Old Rugged Cross in Heaven. What a moment that would be!
This song proves that even a man with all his sins such as Johnny, can even have a relationship with the Lord. There's no doubt in my mind that Johnny is in heaven singing his heart out to the Lord this very moment.
Johnny Noble the lord can forgive all, it just has to be sincere and this man was everything sincere and 100% genuine. I cry listening to this concert.
I wouldn't bet too much of your paycheck on that one. The Bible does say "the tree is known by his fruit". Ahh what was it he said? Oh yes "I'm the only hell my mama ever raised"... Luke 19 '...out of thine own mouth will I judge thee...' I hope he found a place of repentance and faith in Christ before he had his ticket punched....Everyone kneels before God either in this life or before His throne.
Pastor Harrison Johnny's sins were already bought & paid for by our Lord Jesus on the cross. All he had to do was to accept this gift which was givin unto all of mankind.
Knowing he did this song hardly able to breathe and was gone, not long after this show,it is the best version of this song EVER! I always give it a listen when I'm on You Tube. kind of as a blessing, just to appreciate the real country music that is going the way of the Edsel.
Paycheck Lived 6 more years after this was recorded, he passed away in 2003. Grandpa Jones was here and he passed away february 1998, and this was recorded in 1997, not long before the passing of Grandpa Jones.
Johnny you are a legend in my book. A true country blessing your voice was. They'll never be one to match you sir. R.I.P Johnny paycheck your dearly missed
I remember when this used to come on late Saturday mornings. I loved to watch it because there's something about the rugged, well traveled, beaten voice of an old country singer that just brings such truth to their words. The cherry on top is that Johnny is singing my favorite hymn.
Makes me cry!== Met him many years ago in Florida at the Strawberry festival. Our son was little and had a big black cowboy hat on.== Johnny saw him and said "hey1==You look like me little guy!" I still have a picture we took of him. We lived in DoverFla. and Mel Tillas,s grandson was a friend of my sons,== as they were also in the same class. Dover was Mels hometown.
You can tell this song is deep by the looks on the Elder Generation country n western .. Mr. Paycheck in my mind is one of the truest redeemers i have ever seen ..( personal opinion please respect that .. no arguers please)
we played this in 1990 at my dads dads funeral he was a WWII veteran and the funeral home was overflowing to be there with all of us. He was born 1919.
The Song Tells the Story of The Suffering of Jesus and Encouraging all Christian Men and Woman world wide should embrace,The Father ,The So and The Holy Spirit
I SEE ALL JOHNNY FRIENDS ALL THEM SOULS HAVE LEFT THIS EARTH WE WHO ARE LEFT WAITING FOR OUR TRIP I,M GLAD . WE HAVE A FORGIVING HEAVENLY FATHER IVAN FROM ILLINOIS
I love him but everyone quit being so sad,he was a badass that would want us to make a toast to all the great music until we are all old violins. Cheer's.!!!
But Johnny got better after this coz he lived 6 more years and recorded more albums and such, this was recorded in 1997. What a testimonial of God given talent and still not holding a damn thing back despite his age. How could someone not respect him? I just love this video. We’re lucky to have preserved it for others to appreciate. RIP Mr. Paycheck❤️
Few people expect to get to heaven based on the cross and the cross alone. The prideful heart believes it is his service. They do right in front of the whole world but the Lord says I never knew you. I believe he is with the Lord

The most underrated country music singer of all time! A true legend that a lot of people don't know nothing about.
Cory Cunningham sadly your right but he's still one of my favorites.
Vern Gosdin is my pick for underrated. George Jones would have my back on that one.

Pastor Harrison

But Johnny got better after this coz he lived 6 more years and recorded more albums and such, this was recorded in 1997. Few people expect to get to heaven based on the cross and the cross alone. The prideful heart believes it is his service.
They do right in front of the whole world but the Lord says I never knew you.
