    I'm just going to throw this out there: The best pee jug is an empty laundry detergent jug. It is large enough and is made out of strong opaque plastic. The opening seals tight and allows for easy pouring (and filling). The plus side is obvious, it doesn't smell like pee so much because of all the soapy smell still in there.
    Plus it is, residually, free.

      Indecisive Cog And there is no danger of accidentally drinking from it.

      I like 1/2 gallon OJ or milk jugs. They have a screw on cap and a handle. No chance I’m drinking out of it as my water bottles are nothing like it.

    use a piece of 10mm climbing rope instead of those wooden dowels.. flexible and still adds some weight.

    Hey Brian, it seems like a bad idea to pour your urine into the gray water tank if you're also putting bleach in it. The ammonia in your urine could react with the bleach and create mustard gas.

      Came here to say this. Was using a public urinal somewhere and they had put a chlorine tablet rather than urinal cake in the urinal. Was not pleasant.

    • @Mercury_EG
      @Mercury_EG 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Wonder if maybe like a lidded funnel running to a drilled hole in the bottom and seal the hole with caulk. Since it's like a last resort anyways might be worth it. Stealthy too. Also could pee directly in it...

    • @briansrandomstuff3152
      @briansrandomstuff3152 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Bleach and ammonia creates chlorine gas which is worse than mustard gas. That said, fresh urine doesn’t contain ammonia. Bacteria break down the urea after some time and release the ammonia. Urine should be bacteria free unless you’ve got a uti at the time of elimination.

    I’m a little late to your videos, but, e6000 multipurpose adhesive is so good for SO MANY situations. It will adhere to all materials, including fabric. Could, most likely, attach your “sew on” magnets permanently to you shade fabric. It’s super useful for so much more, too!

  • @kzetting
    @kzetting 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey BK Secure the Shade Thought...Fasten non eyelet side of your strap between the vinyl and wood. When you roll up the vinyl, the strap will appear and then lift the eyelet end to hook onto a bigger headed screw on top like you did. Instead of pulling the strap downward toward the headliner (What?), you pull the end towards you and up, wrapping the cover and attaching the eyelet onto the screw head. Sorry IK too much information. Just hate to see you shred the liner on the nice van. Great attempt!!

    Hey Brian, my dad was a GM auto technician since the early 50's and in our garage at home he had this small bell shaped funnel. I asked him one time what it was and he said they used to install them in cars that belonged to salesmen who were on the road a lot. The small funnel was attached to a plastic tube that went down and out the bottom of the car, so these guys could pull over on the road when they had to go and take a leak and then keep on going. Something like that might be handier for you than peeing in your thermos and you wouldn't have to think about how to dispose of the urine.

    If you slit the top of the curtain you can feed the strap through to the back , and then when you roll up the curtain put the strap over the top and hook it over the same screw ( maybe put another eyelet in)

    Brian, I think Alex had experimented with a cargo net in his promaster and it didn't work out either. He worked some canvas solution to his under the bed setup and that was easier to keep aloft when needed. I forget which video it was in. Loving the van updates man, you're always so practical!

    That thing called sun shade
    I live in tropical country so i never deal with cold weather,but that thing make a lot of difference when the weather is hot,it keep your cabin temperature decently low
    And if u park your van when the weather is hot,with the sun shade u can immidiately touch the steering wheel and the shift knob and drive away...

  • @sarahhamilton2499
    @sarahhamilton2499 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You could replace the dowels on the curtain with an old bike tube that is sewn onto the hem of the curtain. Split the tube down the middle, cut to length and sew on. They are heavy enough to help hold the curtain down, but they are flexible and you can move them around as needed.

    Hey Brian, I think the window shades will be much better utilised during the day while you're out riding in the heat of summer so all your tech doesn't melt, rather than for heat keeping properties at night time! But the added privacy will also be a big benefit 👌🏻 loving the 50 States story so far, you're going to have an epic year man!

  • @blakemerryman3563

    I have a potential solution for your curtain/Dow rod issue. A weighted jump rope. If you are familiar with that I’m thinking of the normal jump rope with the plastic tubes on it. If you have no idea what I’m talking about. Imagine rope with penne pasta as an outer casing. You’ll be able to make them pretty ridged for easy roll up but they will have enough give so you can spread the curtain apart to walk back.

  • @dhrracer
    @dhrracer 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    My idea on your curtains would be to have strap mounted to the top of the curtain or the bottom of the shelve then a snap connection on the top of the shelve. Roll up curtain grab strap that would be hanging pull up and over rolled up curtain and snap down. You could also use those small little bungie cords, they might come in handy for a lot of things.

  • @andrewwylie9259

    If you think of a tent door flap, you can roll it back and there is a strap to help hold it back. Or maybe a suitcase strap. Cut it in half. bolt one to that wood piece, and the other into the frame where you have your velcro. Yea its making a hold, but then the buckle just clips into the other part and you can make it adjustable somewhat.

    And spin the seats to the inside, should be able to maintain the leverage better than trying to fight against the body of the van.

    Cargo net idea: it's a pain to find the right size for a custom built location, but you can use screws (since your deck is wood) and fender washers to hold it tighter in places. We do this on the underside of our bed, and on the back of a fold down seat.

    For the window covers at night, would it be less obvious if you put the black side out? The silver side out reflects the light and heat, which doesn't matter at night and if someone looks at the van they just see dark windows rather than silver reflectix.

    Not first. I find your and Alexander’s different personalities reflected in your vans. Not far in, but on your solution to rolling up your curtains, I would put the screw through a washer bigger then the grommet with a hole smaller than the screw head so you can tighten down the screw and not just have the strap hanging lose on the screw shaft.

    Why not try sleeping with a down dovet, I dont heat my bedroom and so far the lowest temperature was about 8°C (48F) which was not a problem at all. And you can get down dovets which keep you way warmer then the one I am using. They are just a bit bulky which could be an issue in a van.

    Separate and marked different sets of brushes for your drink bottle and pee jar? I keep it simple, shower, with pee jar on the floor for a basic cleaning.

    Brian be careful using magnets around ur van keys the magnet can mess with the chip in the key for the immobiliser and u wont be able to start the van. P.s I cut keys for a living so have first hand knowledge of this.

    Line the van in sound deadening to keep sound out and keep the heat/cool temps in the van!

    Get a butane stove (not propane)- then you can safely use inside the van. And, be sure to get one with enough BTU's!

    Are you happy with the amount of space in the 136? I deciding on a 159 or 136 but thinking the 136 would be a good size for me. Just wondering what your thoughts are on the 159 vs 136 if you have any? Thanks.
