    Always great to hear Bob speak, because he is such an eloquent and intelligent man. Barry Hearn should invite him to get involved in helping to run the sport - he would be a real asset.

    What a nice bloke and still playing at 71 - wow. The 80's was when I got into darts - Jocky, Eric, John Lowe, Bob, Cliff, Keith Deller and Mike Gregory to name but a view. Great times but it needed dragging out of the 'pub' environment of the BDO and full credit to the PDC for making it what it is today.

    • @flyingdog68
      @flyingdog68 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lukes8719 I know what you mean. In the BDO days the fans were there for the darts and the players were there for the glory - certainly not the prize money. I miss the players being able to drink and smoke on stage, it certainly added to the atmosphere. As much as I love the modern game, I wonder has it now become TOO big? 🤔

    • @flyingdog68
      @flyingdog68 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lukes8719 I couldn't agree more. The Premier League matches especially just seem to be lads out on stag do's or a night out with a few genuine darts fans. I totally agree smaller venues are the answer - that's why the BDO world championships were so special. That said the difference between the BDO and PDC players is night and day. I just worry Barry Hearn has too much power and will ruin darts like he ruined snooker.

    One thing I'd add is that these guys played on boards where trebles were 14% smaller than they are now due to thickness & staples. This man here hit a 100 ave in the 80s. Put Lowe, Bristow, anderson and jocky about today and with today's boards and schedule and they'd rule

    • @Frady180
      @Frady180 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      They miss into the 5’s and 1’s far too often. Sport sciences has come a long way, even in darts. So in that since maybe they would, but also they might not. The top 90 in the world can hit ton averages on any day.
      Bob would have a chance because consistency is what wins now

      Agree. Also titling the videos to lure people in only to find out you have like a 30 second bit about it and the rest is not about what's on the title... Misleading that is, it's on nearly every video. You don't need to do that, darts fans will click anyway!

      Bob was a civil servant, I believe, and he made the UK javelin team for the 1968 Olympic games although I think he got an injury that ultimately prevented him representing Britain in it. He was also a non league footballer to a reasonable standard. He's clearly a very intelligent guy.

      No offence but you are wrong (I wont swear). 3x masters champion back to back (when it was a floor event), world no1, world champion. First of the power scorers. Back op in 1990 put him back a load. Back to back world semi finalist in pdc 20 years later in the 90s when 57-58. Won a whole host of opens, some 2-3x in a row. Was still in PDC top 32 at 60! Guy was, is and will forever be a legend. Best 3 players of the 80s were Bristow, Lowe, jocky and bob (bob won more). Professionally outlasted all of them. Taylor (greatest ever) has said many times that if any of the top pros now even (inc MVG) were asked to put 10k of. Their own money down in a winner takes all best of 5, they still wouldn't!
