- Back with the first video for 2025. Was hoping to get on a couple of weeks ago, but with poor forecasting from the Met, the recent snow and cold days, it's been difficult.
Anyway, it's been a while since the lawn had some nutrition, so lets get the last of the autumn feed down, before we start looking to renovations in spring!

It hits home just how hard it is to get the perfect lawn. All the effort you put in with various fertilisers etc etc and your still improving on it. Looking forward to April now.
It keeps me occupied! 😅. April can't come sooner enough. Hate winter for the short days, cold wet. 😬
Good to see you back Dan😊
Good to be back Carl. Hoping for good lawns in 2025!!
Yeah, can't wait for the season to really kick off.
Greetings from the Netherlands.
You and me both! Plenty for me to do! Thanks for watching all the way from Netherlands. Great country
I have one area behind a conservatory that is permanent shade all year round, so obviously prone to thinning (rye). This year I decided to just throw some seed down with little soil prep in October and November when temps were still ok for germination and damn me it’s made a massive difference. Still thinning but nothing like what you’re seeing. Worth a thought next year mate.
Hi Phil
Actually been thinking about this over the last couple of weeks. When I first did this side lawn it was much better over winter, and it was seeded in September 23. It only had new seed in late April.
Will be putting some seed down in autumn to help it going forward I think
Great to see you out of hibernation dan ! Have missed all the lawn vids with it being winter .i fed and cut my lawns jan 1st here in durham and cut them again yesterday but by god do you get some funny looks ! Could feel the curtains twitching up the street with people thinking surely thats not a lawn mower in january ! Hee hee xx
Cheers Julie. I've been desperate to get out and do a bit, but it's been poor weather or too dark. Glad to get back on it again!
I think my neighbours are used to my antics on the lawn nowadays!! 🤣🤣🤣
I've got thousands of brown maggots in mine. They much best aerating it as its looking amazing compared to last year.
Just make sure the birds don't come down in March and tear it all up!
😂😂😂😂glad you got revenge on your boy by destroying his minecraft houses😂😂😂Can't wait for the season to start again so I can do some overseeding etc.
How you getting along with your Winter project restoring the vintage Webb Witch you got? I bet the oilite rear roller bushes are worn and need replacing. Found it to be the case with mine when I first got it. They are easy mowers to totally strip down though and press out and in new bushes.
If they do it again, I'll just take the power bricks so they can't play!
I have done nothing to the webb yet! Terrible on my part.l, but it's been so cold and dark and miserable I've not been in the cold garage to do anything!
@TheReelMowingMowingClub well said Dan, they won't mess up your lawn again, knowing you mean business🤣🤣It won't take you long to get the witch like new. Nothing to them, unless you intended totally sand blasting the lot, and repainting etc. With my webb witch I just got It mechanically like new, sharpened etc, but left that one with it's original paint.
Looking forward to improving my lawn in the spring. It's had such a battering, Grubs, Squirrels, Badgers, Moles, Pigeons... very frustrating...
I understand that. Squirrels haven't been top bad in my lawn this last year. Had moles in the past but they moved on.
Can you remind us please what seed you have on which of the 3 sections? A lot of people seem to be suffering quite bad die back with presumably 100% rye. Your back seems to have stood up very well given the weather and maybe blessed with good light (and eutrema). Are you ever tempted in the troublesome shaded corner to introduce a small amount of fine fescue into the mix, i believe Boston seeds might have such a product with 20% slender creeping red fescue in addition to rye?
Hi Mike.
So the back lawn is 100% rye with the Premier Pitch. Same as on the side lawn. It does get a lot of light in the back to be fair which helps.
The small lawn which the kids have done the best to ruin is Barenbrug Extreme, which is a dwarf rye. That's got a bit of turning damage near the house but other than the footprints, it's held up ok.
Just the shady area on the side which has, again, died back from lack of light and excess water.
Thought about adding some fescue seed in this area but I might swap my security light for a lamp like on the football pitches 😄😄
@@TheReelMowingMowingClub Now why did I already know you might go "left field" with the shade solution with a UV lamp. Might work as security too, I recall its revealing nature of undergarments lets say in some of the rock clubs I frequented. 🤭😯😉
Spotlight already there just swap the bulb 😂😂😂
No chance me going on the lawn way to wet
Hi Geoff. It's raining again here now which is good to wash in the fert but it's just miserable
Im retiring in a couple of months so more time for me getting the lawn in a tip top condition lol @TheReelMowingMowingClub
