One thing I should mention. Barbra fought the studio over the music. The studio wanted her to pre-record the music but Barbra wanted that magic of singing it live. She won that argument. It's a brilliant performance all captured on film forever.
I saw A Star is Born on opening weekend when it came out. It was at the Chinese Theater in Hollywood CA. On that enormous wall to wall screen, it was the first film that used a full 6-Track Dolby Stereo sound system..and the entire audience sat breathless during this segment of the film, the finale. It was a glorious moment.
Love your review. I remember people sobbing in the theater after this song. Then Evergreen plays during the credits and you start to feel better. She is remarkable and my favorite vocalist. Barbra is recording a new album right now. 😊
My favorite Barbra song ! Of course, as you're saying, it takes another level of emotion when you're watching this performance at the end of the movie. ;)
The scene is the end of the movie. After he has passed Kris Kristofferson plays an awesome role as well as Barbra streisand. I was a teenager when this movie came out and I can watch it over and over again .. please take the time to watch it to thoroughly enjoy the soundtrack thanks for your reaction
Wow! Dani I had never seen that performance before! Just like you I was blown away! I knew she could sing but OMG that was something else! Love you Dani!
Barbra's voice in the 70s could have knocked down concrete walls. The movie was a huge success grossing $80M, making it the 2nd highest grossing picture that year. The soundtrack was at #1 for 6 weeks, "Evergreen" for three.
You got a new subscriber with your wonderful, heartfelt reaction! I’m a 70 year old lady who,at this final season of my life,is hungry for the music that brings me back to wonderful (and, yes, sometimes),painful times. But I,also, have enjoyed hearing artists that are new to me,which I have found with various other reactors. Thank you for this great reaction! I look forward to more!❤️❤️
THANK YOU!, DANI!!! I am in tears, not only from the performance, but your reaction. I had to be pulled out of the theater by my parents after watching this movie over and over again. I love your reactions to Barbra! They remind me of when I first experienced her as a teenager. Please, keep them coming. “Woman in the Moon” is another from this movie that is so amazing…her voice is unbelievable!!!! 😊
And this EXACTLY why I LOVE doing reactions!! Because it brings up nostalgic memories for you all. Experiencing music and remembering those experiences is such a powerful emotion!! Thank you for sharing this comment!! I will react to Woman in the Moon as well!! Barbra evokes sooo much emotion and reaction!!
Incredibly good! She's the ultimate artist- performer, and I saw her live in concert twice. Barbra has an enormous talent. Everything you could ask for from an actor-singer, She’s the entertainers entertainer in the business. The finest ever on stage and in the silver screen. The greatest Star! ❤
From this movie, Barbra also won an Academy award for her composition of the song Evergreen, with lyrics by Paul Williams. Evergreen, of course, became a number one hit for her as well. Just a true superstar in the likes of Judy Garland.
One take Barbra for that final scene. Great reaction & I agree...if you saw the movie before the reaction you would've been bawling your eyes out! I always have watching that video scene.😭
The 2nd song “watch closely “ is His song that he sang earlier in the movie, and she’s singing it back to him. The whole movie is AMAZING!! And all the songs are!!
From all the female singers i think Barbra is the best, i've been a Barbra fan since 1993 when i saw many movies and bought my first cd's from Barbra, and i am one of the luckiest people who saw Barbra live in concert in Europe in 2013. If you really want to see how long Barbra can hold a note then please watch her final song "A Piece Of Sky" from the movie Yentl that's where she really blows everybody away. th-cam.com/video/kT7R-QCrhtg/w-d-xo.html sorry the first seconds is missing from this clip.
Having seen Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson in ''A Star is Born,"' I can't watch the new version. The heartbreak. Wonderful movie though. Watch out for the credits! Barbra made history with that too!
Oh wow, thank you so much, Dani for doing this already. I knew you would appreciate it, and your reaction was spot on in everything you said. Yes, you really must watch the movie... the chemistry between Barbra and Kris Kristofferson is so intense and palpable, it just jumps off the screen, right up to this climatic ending. The movie's entire score is fantastic too. Thanks, once again, Dani. 🤗
@@DaniAtkinson When you do watch, Dani, keep in mind too that Barbra was the primary Director of this movie, but in those days, women were frowned upon for taking on such a position, so she let her then boyfriend, Jon Peters, take the credit. She was a trailblazer in so many ways, and later would become the first female ever to win a Golden Globe for Directing, on "Yentl," a movie she would also write, produce, and star in.
@@DaniAtkinson Have you heard her sing "Prisoner" from the movie "Eyes of Laura Mars"? A movie where she _turned down _ the lead role because she thought it was too racy for her. Another virtuoso goose bump performance.
@DaniAtkinson You can thank the Colonel for that not happening; his demands made it impossible for Barwood Films, Barbra's production company, to afford him; he also wanted Elvis to have top billing, which Barbra would have easily given if the ask price wasn't impossible. Shame...Elvis really wanted to do this film, and it may have even saved his life in the end.
@johntynio3416 It wasn't about being a has-been, it's about realizing what drugs, and alcohol (in John Norman's case) can do to destroy your life and career. Elvis at that time in '75/'76, was most obviously in a decline from prescription meds, poor diet and living, and an unhappy life. "A Star Is Born," might have made him see his own life more truthfully that way, and maybe he would have seeked help and changed his destructive ways which eventually killed him one year later. It did that for Kristofferson... after doing this film he sobered up and went clean. Don't underestimate the power of looking into a mirror!
It’s extremely rare for a live performance like this to make it all the way to the movie’s release. Barbra pushed for it because she knows she’s better live than lip-synching. She can do a lot of things, but she’s not very good at lip-synching.
Okay, I’m not that old! But what did u say?! LOL! I LOVE this scene from the movie and was curious…looking at other comments and ran across this …..and I am fascinated by the fact that I don’t understand a word that I just read!!! 😱🤷🏻♂😊😊🧐🤔

Barbra Streisand at her best for me.. Emotional Powerful rendition.. Thanks for your reaction..

I was going to mention the Dolby Stereo factoid under your other post! (Glad I saw this one. ) Must have been great to have been there.
@@BrettTwinSavage it was truly an experience.
Barbra Streisand is The Greatest Star.

Living Legend Period!😘
Seriously.
My favorite Barbra song ! Of course, as you're saying, it takes another level of emotion when you're watching this performance at the end of the movie. ;)
Possibly the greatest femal vocalist of our time
Most definitely. She is so versatile as an actor, producer and writer too. Love her so much.

2nd half of this song is Kris Kristofferson famous hit in the movie. (Look Closely Now ) She just sings her version for a perfect ending.
BARBRA STREISAND-SUPERSTAR👍👍👍😀😀😀
She still gets tears in her eyes
Omg you should read her book!
Better yet... listen to the audiobook... you'll feel like you're with her in a private conversation.
I have the book! Haven’t started it yet!
@DaniAtkinson The audio is so much more personal. She speaks as beautifully as she sings.

The song Watch Closely Now was actually his band's best tune.
Same page ty for watching this
Even Lady Gaga would say that Barbera is in a league of her own
Lady Gaga should bow down to Barbra! Barbra’s vocals are unmatched.

Elvis came close to being in "A Star is Born" with Barbara! Can anyone even imagine? Thanks Dani!
Love Elvis. Kris was the right choice. He played the has-been to a T.
I would have loved to see Elvis and Barbra together on screen. That would have been INCREDIBLE ⭐️
