Shirley’s first love, Andrew “ Buster” Briggs played by Karl Howman when he came to the square, he is also Deans father as well. Her ex husband, the late Kevin Wicks ( Phil Daniels ) adopted Dean ( then known as Deano ) and her daughter Carly. They had a son, James ( known as Jimbo ) but when he was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, Shirley couldn’t cope with his condition and walked away from the marriage and Dean and Carly. Dean was jealous of Mick and Shirley’s relationship and never really forgave her for abandoning him.
