I was a New Orleans Jazz fan and I met him after a game against the New Jersey Nets at Pat O' Brien's. He was one of the nicest guys in the world. I had a drink with him, Kevin Loughery and Rod Thorn (one of the greatest fan nights of my life) and he was hilarious. He leaned over to me and told me to ask Rod Thorn if he was the third-best guard in West Virginia history? I did and Thorn said "You put him up to that, Hundley!!"

I agree. Met him once and just a nice guy who seemed to appreciate that someone recognized him and appreciated his talent as a game announcer. Very humble. And, I knew some radio personalities in the New Orleans area, and they were telling me the Jazz did not pay him much to call the games. Nothing more than a middle-middle income salary at best and worked special appearances at car dealerships and doing a few radio/TV commercials just to make ends meet. Going back to the 90's and prior to that, I learned the local announcers for NBA teams made modest incomes at best, with a few exceptions in the NY and LA markets. I think it came down to Hot Rod enjoying what he did - and it showed.

Was blessed to listen to him call games from my childhood into adulthood, and damn he called games with the same spark he played with.

Like once a month I peruse TH-cam looking for Hot Rod highlights and every time this is the only one that comes up. I’d rather have the highlights on this video than nothing, but I definitely wish there was more out there, at all, that I could find
