Might sound like a silly question but why didn't you push right to travel back the way you came when you saw you were too close to the water?
+John Banks fair question - I guess panic and reflex
John Banks the best answer here is just "panic"
Can't you set the gps waypoint routes? Or is that a feature for the 4? Thanks for preventing us. If I do a shot like that I'll say a great distance and just zoom in.
really good accident deconstruction. We can all learn from your candor -- many thanks.
Sorry to hear about the crash and your broken drone!
I hope you keep doing this kind of videos though, I like your nature videos a lot! Thank you for doing these :)
Subscribe to my channel, making drone videos in Florida !!
This was really great. I mean that with respect, kindness and understanding. I too have had these "mishaps" with 500+ flights under my belt. No matter how careful and by the book.... it happens. But you took something that is without a doubt tragic... and turned it around. You explained everything, took complete responsibility and learned from it. Hats off to you for the positive attitude and taking the time to share this with others. Hope you get back in the air soon. Clear skies friend.
+Frederick Hagan Thank you! Hope to be up soon!
The P4 won't let you get that close unless you turn off the OAS. It's always a sad day to see a fellow quad bite the dust. I do have to say... when you flew over the waterfall, my heart starting beating fast and my stomach dropped out. I literary felt like I was falling over the edge. WOW ! That was awesome!
What is the music you are playing in the background, it is beautiful?
+Silverhorse32 , Cattails - Kevin Macleod
I have a question also .. how did you manage to retrieve you're footage from the control ?
exported it from my iPad
but its only 720p, and horrible bit rate as you can see
Wow I want to go there what's the address?
stills gives me chills watching this...
Would a Phantom 4 have avoided it automatically, or would it have just been a more expensive loss?
+Steven Power , in this case, I think the same thing would have happened, although I'm not sure.
+ReviewOutdoorGear Thank you for taking the time to answer. I've been trying to decide if the extra cost of the 4 is worth it. I'm prone to crashing things, so might be better off spending less if whatever I buy is going to end up in a tree, in pieces, or in a waterfall.
Sorry to hear about your drone! I know how that feel.
what time of the year you guys went? it really amenzine the view.
+Moi Ramos late spring.
thought they had sonar to avoid collision?
+Kenny kenwud , that's the phantom 4
ah darn i made it to that point in the video right after typing the comment lol
Nooooooooooo! Man I feel your pain :( Side note: the footage you got was amazing! Well done buddy.
Sorry to hear about your crash. Hope you will be able to get a new one sometime soon. I just love what you have done with the old one :)
- Martin
I was going to subscribe, until I saw the go fund me, jeez, buddy, Why would one fund your hobby? I could understand if you had lost everything in a fire, or a relative is sick & needs an operation, but, please buy me a new drone, kinda cheesy, my man!
Hey, I;m building a36 Ford hot rod, I crashed it, bent frame, if I had 7800 I could put a Detroit speed & eng. frame under her, you all would be so happy to see me win at autocross & with your help, it could happen!
Sorry for your loss! Similar thing happened to my Phantom 4. I was getting a panning shot , and didn't pay attention to a tall tree. Down it went. Luckily I had DJI care, and the repair center fixed it right up and got it back to me in just over a week. Beautiful shots though! Keep droning!
Yeah, it hurts to crash
Sorry about this man! Very unlucky. Where was this?
Palouse Falls, Washington
Sorry to hear about the crash!
+M taka Oh, do you drone videos as well? I want one so bad but crashing it like in this video really freaks me out!
no way I can support your quadcopter addiction I got to support my quadcopter addiction 😃
Did you get it back at all, great video by the way
no, did not get it back.
Thanks for posting this. My self-confidence was shattered as I almost put my Phantom 4 in the drink filming a waterfall yesterday. Combination of a stiff breeze, obstacle avoidance (it's a hindrance if you try and maneuver around tree limbs) and the VPS flaking out over the whitecaps. And a bit of pilot error. I was fortunate that all I did was clip some leaves, but I was literally inches from disaster. Got some great shots though!
Wow. Good thing you made it out safe! Nerve racking.
I'm so sorry that you lost the drone. They are not cheap, that's for sure. Hope you get another soon. Keep flying and filming.
these phantoms are seriously incredible. i crashed mine and fully submerged it in a river on my 3rd flight. I took it apart and let it dry for 3 days, gave it a bath in 92% alcohol, put it back together and it works like a charm!
haha. nice work man.
Time to go for a dip! Hope you get it back, I would have gone for a dip.
+Soldier53flyer , watch the behind the scenes video - it wasn't worth the dip - the "vortex" under the waterfall is said to be 50-100ft deep!
+Soldier53flyer It looks freeeeeezing cold!
+ReviewOutdoorGear That will most definitely kill someone.
Dude! That sucks so bad. I'm sorry to see that you totally lost the drone. What a shame, especially since you had such beautiful footage on it.
+Ian Sebastian Video Blog , yeah. I'm looking forward with hope for better things to come!
Sorry about you drone,Im sure that God will bless you and you going to end getting the 4 model and no more crashes! greetings from Germany!
+Tonahuac Theonewhocarriesthelight , thank you!
Sorry for your loss, just chalk it up as a learning experience. And on the bright side you can get a replacement for half the price now as they are on sale.
+Ben7seven7 thank you for the comment
Sorry about your mishap, thanks for sharing. You can help others avoid such a tragedy. I'm sure you'll get armchair drone pilots scolding you but you're footage was awesome and that's why we do it. I'm hoping it some how gets found and the data is intact.
+Carmelo Intersimone thank you!
Thank you, sorry, greetings, vienna, austria
+Ernst Hefter Holy smokes. You should be taking some footage of Austria and sharing it with all of us bro! I've never been. Greetings from Vancouver, BC, Canada.
Sorry about this .. I crashed my phantom 3 today couldn't recover it I feel the pain sucks man hope everything goes well
you need a zoom lens to be safe.... in time a zoom will be standard on most drones.
+Robert Serbagi , would love to have that!
ReviewOutdoorGear or shoot in hi resolution and zoom in on post production.
Bummer, sorry to hear that.
I would be feeling terrible leaving that place and my drone behind. I reckon I would be there until sundown hoping it washed up haha
+Taz Mavic it was tough
Sorry for your loss
Love the music.....adds to the dramatic crash! Sorry about the drone! Nice videos though!
Thank you!
Before you fly you should always make a deal with your spotter that's it's his responsibility to retrieve the aircraft in the event of a mishap as part of the pre flight checks.
It's very doubtful it'll see the light of day in one piece again, thanks for your story.
thanks for the comment
I did a video shoot over Minnehaha Falls last weekend as well. I have to say I was nervous as hell. Going close to the mist and going over the edge was thrilling. Didnt want to get too close. A great shot I would have had, but too dangerous.
in cases like this one you got to use 2 of more Drones 😔
Seriously, if I saw you guys do that, I would have dropped my camera, jumped from the cliff, into the water, and gotten the drone myself. It does survive water (if you're lucky).
Wow. You're suicidal. That waterfall is 190 ft tall, it's immense. You're one brave Charles.
I've seen worse. It's the water pressure that gets me, past 36 ft. or so. But thanks for the video!
when I fly on water I always install 2 getterback rod recovery system tubes..they help you recover your drone 100 feet under water..
+inti gomez , never heard of those. Should check them out.
Wow that sucks!
Dam Crash Bro, but awesome Video! Thank You!
Man I just lost my Mavic mini at a dam waterfall today. It doesn’t put footage on my phone so I lost all the footage in the drone. I’m so sad. Lol. Gonna get DJI insurance next time. The crash was due to getting distracted and not seeing exactly where the drone until it was too late. I didn’t even see it in the water, I just know it hit the waterfall and it was gone lol. Luckily it’s the entry level drone and doesn’t cost as much as the other ones but that’s still lost money. Only got it in February too. Lesson learned!
Well that sucks. I just started flying mine and I'm scared to crash it.
Thanks for the advice +Emil Cost ! What a great guy!
that sucks!! feel sorry for you
mate, you need the waterproof "Splashdrone" - at least you would have had a unit that would float
+Ab Rob , yeah, that would be nice
I know hindsight is always good, but what if the first reaction had been to go up, and not back, or just to let go of the sticks. IOW what might be a good first reaction to practice for situations like that. Deus bonus!
+Mark Lucas, good question! I think that letting go of the sticks would be a good option, but with the phantom, if its moving and you drop the sticks, it will continue for about another 2-20 feet depending on the speed at which you let go. At the speed in this situation, that might have worked however, because I was moving maybe 3-5 mph.
Sorry to hear that you lost your drone!
My first instinct is to always pull up that would of saved you
you're probably right!
RIP, sorry for your lost.
Sand actually is a HUGE deal.
Sorry to see this happen to you :-( one word- dji inspire 1- you could have just hovered and used gimbal and never would have had to take that risk to get shot :-) don't waste your money on the phantom. Sounds to me like your ready for a real professional machine to do your videos !!!! Hope to see you back up in air soon!!!!
Great video. You are right, "Praise God for everything He has done!" It's because of what He has done that we even have that beautiful waterfall to film. Sorry bout your drone. I got one last week. That hurts the wallet!
Thank you
Hey I have a Phantom 4 that I'm getting bored of. I will sell it to for a quarter of the price.
how much man
i have one already though
I had a phantom 3 claimed by a waterfall as well. I was at the top of some falls and had a small area to take off in (obviously too small.) I'm definitely not as brave after throwing my first one away... lol
Tripod mode might have prevented this. It activates all the obstacle avoidance sensors. Too bad. Sorry for your drone.
Insurance for this isn't that expensive
Ted McCoy oh yeah? Do tell...
Sorry man...but nice video!
Latency...? Dammmm ... beautiful shooting just a shame about that..
Sorry to hear about your lose, but when in doubt always fly straight up to heaven, that move has saved my bird several times. It's also a good idea to have a ground spotter or two to watch from different angles with radios to tell you before you hit something. When I fly my wife is my spotter and she helps out tremendously, I think she save my Phantom more then I have fingers to count. Anyway, good luck and I'm sure it will show up someday. Happy Flying! th-cam.com/video/z2Bzn4_ZtfY/w-d-xo.html
Why wouldn't you save up and buy your own quadcopter instead of trying to get other to pay for your stupid mistake?
I'm not forcing anyone to do anything, and make it pretty clear that I'm not expecting anything from anyone. I know that some want to help, and so I'm giving them the opportunity to do that.
I would never respond to an anonymous, obnoxious comment. Just delete it so he doesn't get his jollies by way of a response.
True, reminds me of a guy I gave a ride to court house, then he asked me
to pay his fine.
I'm also setting up a Go-Fund-Me campaign, I need a new clutch for my Ferarri LeFerrari that I burnt up racing a Lamborghini Aventador at the beach last weekend. jk.
thats why I'm so paranoid with ph4
killercake90 wasn't a ph4. It was a 3 withnout crash avoidance.
+streetstunna600 even with that it only helps so much only has front sensor not all around like ph4pro
I am suffering with you. :-( Even quite hard when you lose your drone.
thank you!
Im so sorry
"Apparently I didn't"....you did. 😊
damn bro so sorry that happened
Fell asleep after 30 sec..........
hi sorry qbout your drone, btw you do your best.. 🙏🏼
+kadek sudarwika , thank you!
Sorry about this :/
Who dares Wins, In your case, you took the pluge and didnt come back
I found your Drone
I like the Praise God......! thanks...
+rjmprod Right on guys!!!!
+rjmprod Right on guys!!!! 100%
Wow you crash your drone and want other people to pay for a new one good luck with that
+pennycorbin151 , well, people are actually quite understanding and nice, and I am having good luck with that. Thank you!
Vlad is a lame spotter!
I'm taking the blame, he did what he could.
really sorry to hear that.
