So glad to see you back doing reactions, and Dan Vasc reactions in particular. His vocals were amazing and emotionally heartbreaking. As others have noted, he did suffer depression and overcome it, so that may be the basis of his performance. He has other very emotional songs also such as American Trilogy-Elvis Presley cover. He recorded it 5 days after his Dad passed away from cancer. It was his Father's favorite. It is beautiful. Also his cover of Gethsemane from the musical Jesus Christ Superstar, is a Broadway worthy performance that is very emotional. Thanks so much for bringing us another great reaction.
To answer your questions, No drugs, he lives a very clean life. He believes strongly that the performance is equally as important as the vocals, he is a very skilled performer hence the abilty to connect with the audience through the song.
I think the lyrics really spoke to him about overcoming that depression and being able to live again as the song said ("Now I just want to live again" was a lyric as well as "I was under an evil spell")
Absolutely beautiful! Dan suffered from depression plus he loss a friend who passed shortly before he sang this song. It’s really hard to tell what Dan is feeling when he’s singing. He’s very emotional, but he is also a very talented actor. If you haven’t watched his Gethsemane video, I would like to recommend that one. You will be impressed by his acting performance, it’s stage worthy.
What a beautiful , touching rendition! Dan himself said in one of his comments:" Not all tears are of sadness. Those lyrics speak od struggles. But a struggle that leads to light at all! Thank you for your reaction. 😊
So excited to wake up and see your new video! Love how you seem great at picking up the small details in this video. What an emotional song they made together.
An outstanding performance by Dan!❤❤ What could have provoked his tears was his past depression and/or the death of his father. Having said that, Dan absolutely "lives" the song he's singing, so it isn't necessarily either of the above. He's a performer of note! Drugs??? Never!!! He's a very health conscious, clean living person who wouldn't dream of going down that road, of that I'm convinced. Good to see you back. Wishing you a good road trip😃
This song is indeed about someone being touched by an angel. All the albums of Rhapsody are chapters in a high fantasy story, and this song gives chills to the bands fans, whether is Fabio, Alessandro or Dan singing it. What happens is that Dargor, the antagonist in the early part of the story is wandering in the wild, about to die, when the angels come to him to give him the chance to turn to the side of light. He becomes the hero of the saga. Dan was grieving for his father at the time he recorded this, if I'm not mistaken.
Glad you're back! This is really emotional and touching when you pay attention to the lyrics! Incredible! Dan went through some episodes of depression and you hear that in his performance.
The genesis of this song is about depression and suicidal thoughts and overcoming them. Such a topic had to be couched in other terminology at the time it was written (since then, Ren has successfully opened the door). Dan us open about having struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts and overcame them with his father's help. He did lose friends to suicide though. When he recorded this, his father had just died a few months prior so that loss and all the memories overwhelmed them. Dan sings from the heart and soul - always. If you watch Gethsemane, he's in tears at the end of that too.
Skipping down through the comments, I see a lot of different ideas about how or where this song came about, and lots of different ideas about its meaning. In actuality, the song (and many more that go with it) is an original by Rhapsody of Fire, and it occurs in an album that is a tale also written by the band. You could compare the tale to the ones that Tolkien wrote, not necessarily by subject, but by pattern. There are two Rhapsody of Fire albums that carry the subject line. Here are the songs, in the order in which they are presented in the two albums: RHAPSODY LYRICS album: "Dawn Of Victory" (2000) 1. Lux Triumphans 2. Dawn Of Victory 3. Triumph For My Magic Steel 4. The Village Of Dwarves 5. Dargor, Shadowlord Of The Black Mountain 6. The Bloody Rage Of The Titans 7. Holy Thunderforce 8. Trolls In The Dark 9. The Last Winged Unicorn 10. The Mighty Ride Of The Firelord If you're familiar with Dan Vasc's entire YT library, you'll know that he made two covers (an early one by himself, and then one with Fabio Leone) of the #2 track -- "Dawn of Victory." If you check out the lyrics and listen to the covers (or the original), you should note that there is a very important personage named "Dargor" contained in the lore. What most people don't realize that there is another track that Dan covered, from the other album, that is related ... RHAPSODY OF FIRE LYRICS album: "Triumph Or Agony" (2006) 1. Triumph Or Agony 2. Heart Of The Darklands 3. Old Age Of Wonders 4. The Myth Of The Holy Sword 5. Il Canto Del Vento 6. Silent Dream 7. Bloody Red Dungeons 8. Son Of Pain (English Version) 9. The Mystic Prophecy Of The Demonknight 10. Dark Reign Of Fire 11. Defenders Of Gaia 13. A New Saga Begins (Single Edit) 14. Son Of Pain (Italian Version) 15. Son Of Pain (French Version) If you're familiar with Dan Vasc's entire YT library (and if you've been watching this reaction), you'll know that Dan covered the #8 track ("Son of Pain." If you check out the lyrics and listen to the cover (or the original), you should note that there is a very important personage named "Dargor" contained in the lore. With that knowledge at the foreground, you should be able to listen to (or at least read all of the lyrics of) both albums, and THEN you will know what "Son of Pain" is about (or at least you'll know a LITTLE bit about it). Personally, when I first heard the song, I thought IMMEDIATELY about 1 Chronicles 4:9-10 ... Jabez was more honorable than his brothers; but his mother named him Jabez, saying, “Because I gave birth to him in pain.” Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, saying, “Oh that You would indeed bless me and enlarge my border [property], and that Your hand would be with me, and You would keep me from evil so that it does not hurt me!” And God granted his request. I haven't researched whether or not this scripture would fit in with the tale written by and for Rhapsody of Fire, were in any way related back to that source, but it would seem likely, given the subject matter of both songs in question here. I haven't listened to the full albums, but I'm thinking that might be a good idea! One more thing: The Fearless album named "Chronicle of Ancient Wisdom" is a 12-track original album (on Spotify, etc.) that was written by Dan and Davi Vasc, with the help of Gabriel Belozi, and Giovanni Rezende, is also a full-blown tale, written in the Tolkien manner.
He gave up a lot for his art, No drugs, alcohol, sigarettes, carbonated drinks, caffeine, mints, only fans(no aircon), no iced water, no sweets. Everything that can have an influence on his voice is taboo. He also warms up his voice a day before singing, and will mostly try not to talk for a day after his performance. He had depression though, and you can see it in this, and a few other performances. In heart of steel, he talks about the impact of depression, on the world, and in that performance you can actually see, that he knows it. Also in Numb he talks about depression.

We are so blessed to have Dan's musical performances. He is beyond belief.

Depression he had to overcome after his Father's passing.

Beautiful and sad at the same time ❤
Yes re: depression - he said his tears were actually about overcoming a severe depression that left him mostly housebound for two years.
Thank you for your positive reaction to Dan Vasc. I agree with you that he is an AMAZING singer! He is also an AMAZING actor!
❤💫

Agreed.
Dan very well done. Please continue the great work you apply in all that you do
thank you for doing this reaction of Dan
He always makes a cover better! How? Because he’s great in any range. God given gift PLUS lots of blood, sweat and tears and sacrifices.
Makes me also tear up ❤
Dan went through a very dark suicidal period in his life. No drugs or alcohol.

I believe he had a bout of depression. Loss of his dad who he was very close to.
Great !
If you don't mind, I'll leave you a recommendation, AFTER LAPSE , a Spanish progressive band, they sound like Dream Theater, Haken, Angra.
Thank you I'll definitely have to give them a try, and yes please I love recommendations they help me find new and exciting music to check out

Dan vasc lost his father due to cancer..
He had a depression..
