Just broke 40 for first time ever. Everything was on. I was 2 under going into the last 2 holes and bogey and double bogey reared their ugly head. Had 2 bogeys 3 birdies one double and 3 pars. I’m going to start trying to play 3 bogeys 3 birdies 3 pars. Doubt that will happen as I’ve only hit like 5 birdies prior to that. But then again I’ve only played for about 3 months each in 2 prior years. I’m only on my 3rd year so I’ve played maybe 100 to 125 rounds so I think that’s damn good to only have about 7 months of golf under my belt. My journey has been fix the slice off the tee, learn my distances and teeing up or not on par 3s, learning the shot shape of my irons/wedges, developing 2 chip shots a bump and run and a shorter one that stops. Putting and reading slopes have helped. I have a laser range finder, and it will tell me what distance it’s playing even the slope. But I’m beginning to realize even when it’s uphill 110 to pin playing at 120 which is my pw, I still go one club more for a 9 same in the other direction and I’ve started getting there
GIVEAWAY (too late i suppose) i notice with my putting on the first few holes if i imagine the hole is 2 feet closer to me i will only go past 1 to 2 feet. So i just pick a spot closer and putt to that. If im too short i just pick a spot beyond the hole. Its not totally foolproof but it does help a lot, especially playing new courses.

Very interesting approach to playing for under 40. I think I will try this next time I play with my grandson maybe I can beat him.
