Wicked is this years Barbie in my opinion. A film the general public loves and gets a ton of critic nominations but when it comes to the Oscars probably won’t perform as well as people think

The middle is mostly Margaret Qualley, and the end she's covered in prosthetics so you can't even see her face for most of it. She's good in the movie but I feel like it's just her comeback narrative that is driving people to overrate the performance. It doesn't even come close to performances like Mikey Madison or Nicole Kidman this year.
I hope you guys do watch Smile 2. I think you guys will be impressed by the filmmaking, cinematography, original score and especially the incredible performance from Naomi Scott. It’s so great she got this recognition because I feel it’s hard for more than 1 horror performances to break out. As much as I like Moore in Substance, Scott is on my personal ballot for favorite performances of the year. Give Smile 2 a shot (just look up the wiki for the first film so you’ll understand the opening sequence).

There are your front runners for 2026.

It won’t. At least cinematography. It will definitely get into editing though because there was a lot of it. Cinematography is decided by the guild if I remember right and that’s why their nominations deviate from best picture.

@@ryyaannn_I’m totally fine with audiences enjoying and praising movies, but I think The Academy should go beyond that when considering who and what to award. There are some things that work in Wicked (prod. design, costumes) but I don’t think other aspects of the film are Oscar worthy.

I don't see Anora winning BP at the Oscars, honestly. I'm the only person I know so far who found it just to be okay. I truly felt it was a bit thin and emotionally flat. I can appreciate the screenplay for sure and the acting is insane but I think the Brutalist is most likely to end up winning as of now. And I'm not saying Anora won't win just because I didn't like it as much, I genuinely think it doesn't check as many boxes as The Brutalist. Thoughts?
