People who don’t do theater think that this is a bad first rehearsal. People who do theater know that this is the best first rehearsal you could ask for.
Chalmers: I just feel like my character would KNOW that it was smoke in the oven, he wouldn't just leave the room without questioning it. Director: Just do it.
The edits made to the eyes, the Skinner/Chalmers cams, the bits that seem to be improv and the forgotten actions (e.g. the doorbell), the other little changes besides the dialogue, all of it comes together for one of the best iterations of Seen Hams I've ever Steam- uhh, Steamed Hams I've ever seen!
All too often we're going through life as if we're reading a script. This is the perfect reminder to live life in the moment. Reconnect with your friends and family. Take time to stop and smell the steamed hams.
I like how Chalmers ad-libbed a line when Chalmers dropped the script while stretching and didn't know his lines. That was funny and really sold them being actors.
I feel a lot of the timing here wasn't quite as good as it could be in what specific words they need to check, but that Utica line flub was just Chef's Kiss. He messed up Chalmers' line in response and Chalmers' was clearly confused as to which of them made the mistake XD
fun fact: the Aurora Borealis exchange was completely ad libed, that's why Superintendent Chalmers was so confused. The writers loved it so much they kept it in.
I love this take on this so much, it's so real 😂 I love them accidentally reading ahead and then fumbling lines, I love Chalmers just pointing to the script that describes them as grilled rather than pointing to the burgers, I love the annotation scene. And I love them constantly dropping the script, or pausing to look at it. All the tiny details make it feel all the more realistic lol, I know you were a theater kid for this one.

I remembered that one Dr. Who episode
Agnes had almost three minutes to memorize her lines and she still flubs the first word she’s supposed to say. And then she forgets to yell for help.
Well to be fair, her actress is getting on in years.
She didn't forget. All the delays due to everyone umm-ing and ah-ing, forgetting their lines and checking their scripts (including her) caused her to pass out from extra smoke inhalation.
SEESOR 💀💀
Three minutes to memorize, like, only 2 or 3 lines, might I add 😂
AND her lines had a total of 6 words
Chalmers was so busy studying his script, he forgot his first cue: ring the doorbell
The prop wasn't ready yet
The doorbell ring is expensive so they just skip it in rehearsals.
The sound system wasn't on yet

Poor Skinner couldn't even get Chalmers' name out the first time. A real bad case of Steamed Fright.
Excited to see the full version! I see potential in these actors

Okay, fuck it. This is by far the most well-made Steamed Hams
The idea that Seymour stretching his legs was an improv bit is brilliant!
I think the most impressive part of this is how much like a first read-through it actually sounds
The Utica mix-up with the back and forth getting back on track is 1000% accurate.
"its obviously smoke, Seymour" *points at script*
This got me
People who don’t do theater think that this is a bad first rehearsal. People who do theater know that this is the best first rehearsal you could ask for.
The firetruck driver was also reading the script too. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
No wonder why he ran over Superintendent Chalmers.
nah..
What would his script even be? Would it just say "0.5 seconds of firetruck noises" or something?
I'm from Utica an I've never heard of a costumed first run through.
Keep up the memed hams 👍
What makes you think it's a costume?!
Chalmers: I just feel like my character would KNOW that it was smoke in the oven, he wouldn't just leave the room without questioning it.
Director: Just do it.
this just makes me think that during the aurora borealis scene he was totally questioning why his character would believe seymour
This is genuinely an innovative idea for an edit

This is unbelievably high-effort, the extra little views of the other character checking their script off screen are genius.

4x more terrifying, at least for Scizor

seymour's mother flipping through the script is the funniest moment i've ever experienced in a steamed hams parody
this could only have been made by someone who's experienced several first rehearsals

They're excellent actors -- for people just reading their lines, they get the intonation and character down like they've done it a thousand times
Honestly, yeah.
I fully expected Seymour to flip "Aurora borealis" and "Northern lights" ... This rehearsal went well
I love how Chalmers always gets run over in the end
All too often we're going through life as if we're reading a script. This is the perfect reminder to live life in the moment. Reconnect with your friends and family. Take time to stop and smell the steamed hams.
It’s actually so funny how well edited it is to be so accurate to an actual first rehearsal to a skit 😂😂
I like how Chalmers ad-libbed a line when Chalmers dropped the script while stretching and didn't know his lines. That was funny and really sold them being actors.
This is incredibly frustrating in a way that I am obsessed with. This is fantastic, thank you.
2:47 Seymur search the "no" line lmao
It could be assumed there is a long conversation he did not feel like learning
crazy that they set the house on fire and rebuild it for every take
0:40
That's so stupid, I love it. 😂
Considering that the original is presented as a sketch, this could very well be canon.
i love the detail of chalmers muttering his next line to himself while skinner was in the kitchen
How in the world did you make this so good
oh hey stallion cool seeing you here
The part where Seymour was gulping at the window, the added sound was so incredibly funny
"22 Short Films about Springfield, 'Steamed Hams scene,' take 1. ACTION!"

Chalmers: Why is there, uh, smoke coming out of....of y-your oven Seymour?
Skinner: Uh--hoho that isn't smoke. It's steam! ... ....
Chalmers: ... It's obviously smoke, Seymour.
Skinner: Y-uh...MMM! Steamed clams!
Fun Fact: Seymour improvised burning down the whole house, and they just rolled with it.
Very impressive that the whole set and all the props were ready by the first rehearsal
Chalmers noticed, and Skinner had to explain it.
I mean it was filmed at skinner's house so everything was already set.
As someone who's performed in a couple theatre plays, this is so accurate...
I like how this implies the whole Steamed Hams joke was adlibbed by Seymour
The little Chalmers & Skinner cameras were a great touch ^^
The amount of originality you put in your videos is absolutely insane 👌
I feel a lot of the timing here wasn't quite as good as it could be in what specific words they need to check, but that Utica line flub was just Chef's Kiss. He messed up Chalmers' line in response and Chalmers' was clearly confused as to which of them made the mistake XD

Absolutely brilliant. People are still coming up with genius steamed ham memes that make me laugh and appreciate the work put into it
