such a beautiful song. about a murderer? even more so. alkaline trio is brutal with a mellow delivery. some bands scream and yell, and yet, they can't quite match the passion and hate that alkaline pulls off so easily. true love.
This is a song inspired by one of Matt Skiba’s favorite true crime novels “Helter Skelter”. He wasn’t glorifying their actions, just to be clear... he was simply inspired to write a song about the words in a book, he does that often, so relax scholars of TH-cam.
(spoken word) "He represented a god to me that was so beautiful, that I would do anything for him. I would do anything for god, even murder. If i believed it was right. How can it not be right, if it is done with love...? I have no remorse for doing what was right to me. I have no guilt in me..."
found this quote from her husband, it goes along with the emotional feel of the song: "Susan passed away peacefully surrounded by friends and loved ones and the incredible staff at the Skilled Nursing Facility at the Central California Women's Facility ... Her last whispered word was 'Amen.' No one (on) the face of the Earth worked as hard as Susan did to right an unrightable wrong."
@dacitizenonline Susan Atkins ("Susan A.") was a part of the serial killer Charlie Manson's "family." He called her "Sadie Glutz" ("Sadie G. She's crazy, see? That's what the white coats say...")
goddddddddd Alk3 were the first band i ever saw live, brixton academy, almost 7 years ago now.. i remember when they started playing this, and they came in with the violins at about 2:50 before the girls speach, not a dry eye in the house, was so epic
Yes, there are two versions of this song. This one which i trully dont rembember where is it from and the one that's on spotify, they re-recorded the song and put it on the album
Haha the "spoken word" bit. The rest of it is awesome but for those of you who don't understand what she's saying during that tidbit here's what it is---> "He represented a god to me, that was so beautiful that I'd do anything for him. I'd do anything for God, even murder if I believed it was right. How could it it not be right if it was done with love? I have have no remorse for doing what was right to me. I have no guilt in me."
That quote was from a grand jury testimony that Atkins gave but later recanted. Spooky but it feels more true than any of the stuff she said after. Grand jury testimony is supposed to be sealed from the public, and held in secret. Testimony in Grand Juries is to find it there's enough evidence to proceed to a trial. Atkins spilled to the GJ in exchange for immunity. So Atkins let fly with all the bloody details including her own stabbing of Sharon Tate. Chief Prosecuter Vincent Buliosi was against dealing with Atkins because of her murderous culpability but was overruled by the L.A. District Attourney. Because Saidie recanted and chose to stand with Manson and the not-guilty plea she participated in her own trial's disruption and never testified again. By her own measure she clouded her role in the Tate murders after the grand jury testimony.
when I first read this I thought "yea right" Then I remembered over the last 20 years American society has been dumbed down to the point of getting its news from comedy central.
@jakestennfeld59 Why put the quote on quote marks when you said "followers" ? Susan atkins was really a follower, she killed for him so that says alot right there. Just thought I'd correct that. (;
@congregante Susan A. aka Sadie G. did say that, but it's spoken by Matt's girlfriend at the time(dunno if they're still together). Pretty creepy stuff if you ask me.
This is really stupid but I'm upset that this video begins with the image from the cover of the Time to Waste single even though this song was not included on any of the versions of that single.
I'd like to point out to the people saying horrible things about Sadie that there's something called Stockholm Syndrome and then there's Battered Wife Syndrome. I guarantee that every woman with them was suffering from these. It takes a lot of mental issues to willingly allow yourself to get a VD.
Sadie did not deserve prison for something she'd be incompetent of doing, she deserved institution similar to Mary Brunner (The only fucked up person to ever share a last name with me) when they realized that she was sane until she met with Charles Manson. The only one who actually deserved prison was Manson and both Charles'.
Finally, the real version of the song.
THANK YOU
my cousin is the drummer. Derek Grant. in case anyone cares.
No way 😍
He's such a star now
Love him and alk3
Ask him if he plays Minecraft e.e
Lmao y'all getting fooled

Didn't know that
Patrick Carroll Look into it if you dig a good true crime read! It’s interesting f to say the least.
@@brandoesntsocialise I think I might, thanks for the tip
Uhhh Google Charles Manson. This shit was REAL not just a book
@@CrudeConduct666 Thats why its called "true crime novel" not "fiction novel"
i've loved this song for years
the outro for this song is fuckin amazing!
The spoken word is Susan Atkins aka Sadie Mae Glutz. A member of the Manson family led by Charles Manson. Ties everything in eh?
(spoken word) "He represented a god to me that was so beautiful, that I would do anything for him. I would do anything for god, even murder. If i believed it was right. How can it not be right, if it is done with love...? I have no remorse for doing what was right to me. I have no guilt in me..."

@dacitizenonline Susan Atkins ("Susan A.") was a part of the serial killer Charlie Manson's "family." He called her "Sadie Glutz" ("Sadie G. She's crazy, see? That's what the white coats say...")
Charles Manson wasn't a serial killer. He coaxed people to kill but allegedly never killed anyone himself.
This song is so good.
this is actually really good
good job

Yes, there are two versions of this song. This one which i trully dont rembember where is it from and the one that's on spotify, they re-recorded the song and put it on the album
@Phsyconaut its actually a sound clip from a movie about manson not actual court audio
shes a friend of ALk3.
she did all the photography on their first cd and she sells merch for them.

well it's an actual quote, so as silly as it may seem in context with the situation it's actually frightening
Grayson Burgener *i have no guilt anymore.

@softan Agreed. I just found that quote interesting.
I follow Drummer57 aka Charlie Alessandro on TH-cam, great covers of these songs! This is his favorite, his video is awesome!

"WELL"?! REALLY?! HAHAHAHA
Haha right? Obviously an old school "woah" not well
@jakestennfeld59 Why put the quote on quote marks when you said "followers" ? Susan atkins was really a follower, she killed for him so that says alot right there. Just thought I'd correct that. (;
Also I don't think you know who Sadie is if you feel special because this song.
@congregante Susan A. aka Sadie G. did say that, but it's spoken by Matt's girlfriend at the time(dunno if they're still together). Pretty creepy stuff if you ask me.
The only reason I looked up the word Sadie is because she is my best friend. Her name is Sadie. Oh gawed wtf have I gotten myself into
😂
Some people need to look up Sadie mae glutz or Susan Atkins. Then maybe you'll feel differently about your name.
Why would someone write a song about Susan Atkins? I mean after what she and those people did to Sharon Tate and all those people?
@@josephhernandez1885 ask Matt skiba. That's literally who this song is about
@baller123xyz
That's cool, what have YOU done for me lately?
@Mattmoo36 is this song about a true story then? whos husband??
expand!
@hawaiianette so true.
Agreed.
this song makes me wish my parents never found the name sadie...
You do realize Susan Atkins wasn't related to Manson?
Um, I dint think many people are familiar with Charles manson...
helter skelter
I was just about to say that when I read your comment
just because it was called 'The Manson Family' does not mean they were all literally related. duh.
So whats the meaning of this song?

Jalushun Brainwashed or not she stabbed people to death. Quite willingly. Quite viciously. She got what she deserved.
It's never been proven it was her, surprisingly.
Jalushun She confessed right? That's enough for me.
Yeah, but sometimes there's a little more to it than just a confession.
So I guess... good for your cousin?!
we don't.
@baller123xyz lies dude, lies
@baller123xyz hahahahahaha
