    For the annoying post renderer insert, go to the renderer, click on the wench tool icon, you can then add a headphone bus for binaural listening and a Listen Bus for you room correction software. Now you can listen simultaneously to headphones and corrected speakers without touching to your post insert of your main bed.

    enable the listening bus in s1, set it to 16channel in i\o, and enjoy room correction plugin like sonarworks multichannel. better than placing it post atmos on the master bus

    Thank you dear @Michael G Wagner for the great video. 👍 I watched this video several times. Since I faced the decision to upgrade a DAW that has already been used or extend support for a lot of money, I decided to change the DAW and switch to Studio One. With the help of this video, I had successfully managed to get started in a few minutes. 👍 Note: I used the possibility of crossgrade for Studio One and saved around 25% at the price - the price remained well below the upgrade or support price of my old DAW. 😊 Thank you 👍

      Yes, looking forward to what other DAWs will do now. Unfortunately, the Cubase/Nuendo update seems to be held hostage by Steinberg’s problem with their payment processor. Their webshop is closed for the moment being and they have announced that new products and updates will be delayed. Let’s see how fast they can resolve this.

    Very nice overview. But why do you set the output to stereo while using headphones. Wouldn't binaural be the right choice?
    Also: Haven't you tried to set the sends to pre-fader to disconnect them from muting?
    Have you tried the Listen-Bus?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Good points. I talked about stereo vs binaural in previous videos. In this video it didn’t make much difference since I was mired in focused on the workflow. The pre-fader setting would solve the muting issue but would introduce other downsides. I would like to see functionality like you have in Fiedler Audio’s Dolby Atmos Composer. Need to look at the listen bus.

This shows how far removed Cubase is from simplicity and CX.. I’m loving SO6.5 it’s worth the learning curve which has to said is about half a day of playing around.

    Hi Michael, great video. I am excited to experiment with Atmos. This is why I love Studio One giving us all this for free. Although Atmos songs have to be set up for 48kHz, can I import stereo tracks which were recorded at 44.1kHz?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good question. Yes, the DAW should be able to transcode the bitrate correctly. If not and you are getting some strange artifacts, you can transcode it in an external editor. Audacity should work for that purpose.

    When it come to channel I know there are different layouts for it. I have a 5.1 setup and I use a ITU layout which is L-R-C-LFE-Ls-Rs and a friend uses a Film layout L-C-R-Ls-Rs-LFE. I feel studio one should allow users set their layout. Best way to setup the channel is to go to the audio i/o setup => output then reposition the channels to what ever suit your setup. Still this is an amazing update.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, you can swap the outputs around, but how channel layout is handled internally depends a lot on how plugins deal with channel layouts. The more premium plugins such as the Liquidsonics reverbs should work fine though.

    I don't inderstand the reverb routing you describe. Why not use a separate bus for the reverb and route the bus to the bed rather than putting the reverb on the main (master bus) which will cause everything in the bed to pass through the reverb? Thanks

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is primarily because most people use the bed only for the reverb as the bed isn‘t really fully immersive. There is, however, nothing wrong with using a separate bus for the reverb.

    • @Tony_Kosinec
      @Tony_Kosinec 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah, I see. That's Genre specific, because in my work remixing pop music into Atmos, the bed IS used for the elements of the rhythm section and objects for specialized FX or panning FX.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @MrJoshRain You only have two overheads in the bed which limits what you can do. There is a strong movement to avoid beds altogether and use objects only. You can mimic beds with more overheads through objects. Pro Tools now has ready made templates that allow you to do that. It is a bit a matter of personal preference tbh.

    That “mute object” is actually not a problem I guess (didn’t check it out yet though), maybe you just need to switch a send to prefader position by clicking that little sign on the right side of send fader on the object/channel track in the mixer, then add a vca track for channels you want to mute to level them all to minus infinity before rendering... of coarse you are loosing your send balance if you didn’t think about it ahead, but it can be fixed with a simple math.. the only workaround I could think of...what am I talking about, it is a problem for sure!:)

    HUGE QUESTION: i notice you can export out multiple styles for dolby....Wav,Binaural,7.1.4 etc...but how does this work when Mastering? On the mastering side if you want those different version mastered?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is no mastering in Dolby Atmos. Everything is done during mixing.

    • @LossLeadas
      @LossLeadas 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelgwagner thanks but thats not what im asking.......this is my point...we know Mastering is the Final of music right! not mixing. On the mixing side we can export out these different wonderful options on Dolby also the regular stereo version........But they still need to be mastered "IF IM DOING THE WORK MYSELF" SO WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST WAY TO MASTER THOSE DIFFERENT OPTIONS OF DOLBY? I assumed the only way possible is export them out the regular way and just drag them into the master side 'PROJECT'.....so i was wondering maybe you know a faster way since we do have the option to add song straight to project sided.

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @LossLeadas In Dolby Atmos you use the master file as your main deliverable. You do not use any of the downmixes and mastering those therefore does not really make a lot of sense. I can just repeat what i said. In Dolby Atmos music there is no mastering step. You mix your Atmos Master File and deliver that to the streaming services who then encode it for streaming. Totally different workflow.

    • @LossLeadas
      @LossLeadas 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @michaelgwagner thanks..for info...but when u export each one out they all sound so different.......keep in mind IF IF DIDNT MATTER they wouldn't give us the abilty to export them out .....respectfully it is for a reason.
      Also, it's getting to a point as far as what I'm reading. Apple is trying to get music platforms to ONLY ACCEPT DOLBY ATMOS MIXES. im sure it's going to happen, maybe not all platforms. This is why i think those different exports matters to give an artist different styles of it song.
      It will be dope if the same S1 allows us to export the dolby version, give the same option to ADD TO NEW PROJECT along with regular Stereo Mix.

    Hey Michael, you did not set a headphone output in binaural, so I wonder how can you monitor the actual Dolby Atmos mix !? And also why put the reverb on the main channel instead of a regular FX channel, I'm trying to figure out what you want to demonstrate?

    • @michaelgwagner
      @michaelgwagner  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A binaural downmix only makes sense if you listen on headphones and over TH-cam I do not have control how people listen to the audio.
      If you set the renderer to stereo that does not mean that you do not listen to the Atmos mix. You just listen to the stereo downmix instead of the binaural downmix. If you want to monitor the immersively you would need a multichannel monitoring setup or at least a headtracking setup like the one I showed with the Audio Movers binaural decoder for Apple Music.
      You can use an FX channel for the reverb. However, since the bed track is not really fully immersive, I usually recommend only sending the reverb into the bed. Many engineers avoid the bed all together. And if all that ever goes into the bed is the reverb anyway, an FX track is not really necessary. But you can use one if you feel more at home with such a workflow, of course.
