Bath bombs can be appealing because of their fun colors and relaxing scents. These “bombs” contain complex colorings and fragrances that fizz and dissolve to create (an often glittery) psychedelic-like rainbow in your bathwater. Are bath bombs safe? From hormone-disrupting chemicals to possible disease-triggering dyes infiltrating your mucous membranes, the standard bath bomb is not something I’d ever use.
In this video, I share what terrifying bath bomb ingredients you should steer clear of as well as how these ingredients can cause serious side effects and even lead to disease. But don’t worry. Your bath isn't ruined. I’ll also share some of my favorite DIYs and all-natural bath hacks for a relaxing, enjoyable and safe bath time.

I think its also worth mentioning that you should use all natural products to clean your bath tub especially for women who soak in baths because those cleaning residues may still be on your tub even after washing them off and those toxic chemicals can end up soaking through your skin and can cause not only UTI's but yeast infections and bacterial vaginosis!

Hi! Great video (as always). I just want to drop in and shed some light on a few things about bath bombs because they are getting a lot of bad attention when it comes to women's health and it's not actually the bath bombs that are to blame. In order to make the bath bombs porous and fragrant and fizzy/foamy, most major manufacturers and big retailers (Bath & Body, Walmart, etc.) use a bunch of chemicals. They use synthetic fragrances and a chemical called SLS (Sodium Laureth Sulfate) to create the bubbles, as well as chemical colorants to give the bombs their color. While this is considered OK by the FDA, it isn't the best for our skin, and yes it can cause irritation and other problems for women. That being said, there ARE bath bombs out there that DO NOT use synthetic chemicals and irritants. I personally make 100% natural bath bombs for my soap business, using skin-safe essential oils for fragrance, natural mica powders for colorant, baking soda and citric acid for the fizz action, and powdered buttermilk for the foaming and bubbles. All of these ingredients occur naturally and are all designed to condition the water and help your skin feel and look amazing. So essentially what I'm trying to say is Bath Bombs are OK if they are created the right way. Unfortunately, big box stores are more concerned about their bottom dollar than they are their customers' skin, so when you purchase from them you are getting a bunch of chemicals and fillers. Bath bombs are not the enemy, the big box stores are. Thanks.

@@spinrash6000 one thing about adding essential oils and carrier oils to a bath. You can't just do that. I think what people need to be aware of is that one just because something is natural does not make it safe and two just because something is safe for the skin on the body does not mean it’s safe on the mucosal linings in our nether regions. There are clays, colorants (certain micas), and glitters that are body safe but not bath safe (meaning not safe to sit and soak in). As a crafter (whether personal or professional), you should be checking this information under the product description and usage section of your supplier. They also list whether ingredients are eye safe or lip safe. Then there are other factors like throwing off the pH balance of the skin and body. For example, baking soda is harmful to the pH of hair. So he’s tearing his hair up slowly by using it in his shampoo. This is why skin care, bath and body, and hair care products are supposed to be pH balanced for the area they are being applied to. Stay safe people.

He forgot to mention a carrier oil with the essential oils, secondly who the heck uses borac acid in their bath bombs? I make cosmetics and although I don’t make many bath bombs I only use natural skin safe ingredients. For scent I use essential oils. No nasty chemicals. My products are all natural handmade. I’m looking to make bath bombs again but don’t use nasty ingredients. This guy also forgot to mention the benefits of the natural/skin safe ingredients in the bath bombs. You could even add powdered milk or something like that for benefits. I’m no expert but I use sea buckthorn oil to naturally color my bath bombs if I want a nice orange color. It’s expensive but I love the benefits of it. I don’t make a lot of bath bombs (climate humidity) but the benefits of the natural/safe ingredients are incredible. I love essential oils and all the other lovely safe ingredients.
I’ve never heard of borax acid being used in bath bombs. I know they’re used in laundry detergents but a safer ingredient is soap nuts.

Dr. Axe, many of us crafters have spent countless hours researching the best ingredients to put into our bath bombs. Not all are created equal. As for the use of essential oils, please do your research and perhaps make a follow up video. Essential oils need to be properly diluted before applying to skin or using in the bath. Also, some essential oils should not be used by those with certain medical conditions, if pregnant/breastfeeding or under 10 years of age.

You tell people that you mix 3 different essential oils and put them on your shoulder area and don't bother to mention that they should be premixed with a carrier oil, or that only a few drops per ounce are used. Not everyone makes toxic bath bombs. Homecrafters and artisans take special precautions to make safe natural products, bath bombs included. Please STOP misinforming the public and be more specific about which brands you are talking about...usually commercial manufacturers who are only interested in money.

I use baking soda, coconut oil, citric acid and cornstarch. I use fragrance from a soap supply company. I make for me. I don’t like how sone stores have non-packaged product where anyone can sniff or handle them.

Not all bath bombs are the same I make a natural clay , essential oils & epsom salts with organic cocoa butter and baking soda balances PH I have psoriasis and never have any issues with even the mica colored ones. And there is BIO & Mineral Glitter

Lol I dunno this title is funny! Most people would never think. But what about LUSH products? They pride and Bill themselves as all natural & handmade ... They are also kinda famous for their fizzy bath balls - LUSH is still OK I think I'm going to have to double check now though. I think LUSH should be an exception to this but good heads up anyway.

This guy is an idiot, shooting his mouth off as a scare tactic for gullible people just to line his own pockets. He clearly knows NOTHING about bath bombs, especially all the good ones out there made by handcrafters who take great pride in the safety of their products.

  • @TheAkana1
    @TheAkana1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I don't know where you are buying your bath bombs. Everything on your " Safe Options" are in bath bombs. I've never seen or made a bath bomb with any of the ingredients you listed in your toxic example. With the exception of fragrance oils. You are right about essential oils being a better option.

"Toxic Fragrances"? Fragrances used for personal care have gone through STRICT safety testing. I am a personal care formulation chemist who formulates things like this for almost 3 decades. Please define what you think a "toxic fragrance" is as phthalates are no longer allowed in the manufacturing of fragrance. A word like that shouldn't be just thrown around easily.

Myself and many other makers us all natural and safe ingredients. Your big companies such as bath and body works use a lot of chemicals. Honestly, if you use an all natural bath bomb you're fine. Even the fragrances we use are safe. I cannot say the same for the huge producers such has Bath and Body Works.

this one was boring.needs to be more specific there are plenty of natural bath bombs that use the ingredients he listed as safe. but he fails to distinguish between artificial dyes and plant dyes which are safe! beets and baking soda make a beautiful, safe blue dye for example!

Those bright colors in bath bombs are achieved by using only FD&C Batch Certified Lakes and Dyes which have been thoroughly tested and approved for this purpose by experts in that field, not by some chiropractor.

I dont know anyone or have seen anyone use anything other then essential oils.... or approved colorants and glitter. All the other things he described is exactly what goes in a bath bomb ya know the stuff he just said are good alternatives.

You can buy all natrual dyes online like red is made from beet root or blue from bkueberries.
Fragrance oils are scary in general,
I get fragrance free epsom salts, Citric Acid is used in bath bombs too, and essential oils are worth the price.
Can make your own Vicks as well.
Dr. Axe, was there a study linking lavendar to reproductive problems in males?
