I've talked to Thomas at NAMM. He's down to earth and just loves to play drums. He will talk you're ear off about drums. That's why he's so good, he loves to play.
drumzilla9000 I doubt their the same? They may be American rock maple, but it’s a cheaper grade, and they’re not laid out the same as the performance, collectors or design series for that matter. Each series has a specific trait and the ply configurations are different, which gives them that variance.
I agree, the drums feel way too busy to me as well. A few bars of flair here and there? Sure. Hitting every pat of the kit 500 times per second for the entire song? Starts feeling like complexity for comllexities sake, it stops feeling special and starts feeling completely unnecessary
I like how instead of doing what most drummers would do with this kit and go all out fast and loud, he is an impressive player, but still has a fun and consistent rhythm.
It takes players like this under performances like this and production like this to show the true sound of these kits. With the right mics and heads and good tuning, anyone can make these kits sound amazing!
Anton Maclean I often wonder what do you pay for when buying expensive drums. I guess it's mostly about tiny premium features and maybe unusual character. Because this PDP carbon fibre 7-piece kit is $899 (+tax?) and sounds killer.
I own this kit, and I can attest it does not sound this bad. To be clear, I'm not talking about the drumming (which is amazing) I'm talking about the sound of the actual kit. It must have been the way the audio was mixed, but this kit has a very full sound and is pretty darn close to the sound of a DW kit.
I love this performance, because although it's mindblowing, it's also human. Thomas makes a few mistakes and happily he leaves them in. I love it. What a killer player and what a nice man on top of it. Thanks for sharing this. Amazing player.
TL is just unbelievably good. In my opinion he is the 🐐 humble all about groove and feel and doesn't just use speed and double kick at every opportunity. His limb independence is phenomenal.
Just want to chime in, I have one of the 1st gen Pdp platinum with the overstock shells, and it's amazing. One of the best kits I've ever played on and grabbed it for $600 used at a store that had it mis priced.
My childhood hero had the first ever carbon fiber kit..he played it in the slip of the tongue 1989 whitesnake release and it still to this day bad-ass..what kit of tommys isn't.the man is a legend.
Great respect. It takes guts to lay down such a complicated groove in one take...I'm presuming(?)...one missed pedal and the cut is done. I wouldn't have the balls...or skill...to do this!
Incredible drumming and a great song! Thomas Lang really is a modern great. I have to say though, I really don't like the kick sound. Maybe it's the mics, but but they sound like they have way too much high end and no oomphf to them. The rest of the drums sound incredible, just the kick irks me.
I think in the time since that audition, if it was even possible, that Thomas has grown and gotten way better. He has a very creative and innovative style. To me way better then Mangini? I could watch Thomas solo and play all day long. Mangini, about 45 seconds into his solos and I’m bored. Furthermore, I think Thomas is also too opinionated to be in a band that has so much control over him telling him how and what to play where anyone else would just be happy to of gotten that gig and been like, sure, I’ll play whatever you want me too for that amount of money!!!
I listened to a podcast with thomas as guest, the audition was just a publicity stunt. And I think they already had Mango in mind and just wanted to show that they can gather the world's top drummers to show that they're still a relevant band. I mean, DT still good, but I just can't dig in to their new material. I still find myself listening to their old albums.
Even b4 the audition, Mike had played with JP in a solo project, so he was more or less the guy, for John and the band. Yea drumfanatik, Thomas has always been my go to player for chops, always improvising, never boring! I'm a picky drummer, if I'm not hearing anything, talent wise, it's not much for me to listen to....ian I'm the same way, no new DT for me, even though they were never voted for a grammy nomination with MP. My favorites are Images and Words, and Awake, bar none.
Taken a break from playin last few years but still glad I saved the PDP Concept I bought new here as players kit, Still there for when I'm ready again~not sure what Gen it was though,(seems like bout 2016 model)? Awesome job/Vid as always Thomas!
Neil Peart can never be replaced. Geddy and Alex would not even attempt a move like that. Rush is over. We have the 40 years of music, videos, and writings from all of the band members to cherish and pass on. They will never be forgotten. Neil is taking time of with his first wife and child. He’s in the afterlife. Not dead but changed. If we live a good life and spread love such as Neil did with integrity, instead of hate and greed we will see Neil one day when we pass. I miss him dearly. I’m a drummer today because of his inspiration in my life. What a gentleman and intelligent man he proved to be on this planet. It will be an honor to meet him one day in Heaven.
So you’ll play this henceforth instead of your beloved piano black DW Collector’s Kit? Great musicality & drum 🥁 chops in this song, Herr tow-MOSS Lang. 😜👍🏻 🇦🇹 🇺🇸 Also which shoes 👟 and shoe size do you wear? They look like Puma cross trainers. I wear an 11EE New Balance Minimus Trail Runners 🏃. Very grippy and light.
@@XiyuYang yea totally so very simple every drummer in history can play it after their first week of playing and of course I know without the shadow of a doubt you could play it ambidextrous ( that means left and right extremity) yes sure you " already knew that too and I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you plus a massive amount of swamp land in Texas to sell you for a very fair low price..... gtfoh
Great performance. The drums sound good except the kicks. They have that manual typewriter attack to them that I usually associate with a triggered kick. Oh well, it’s clearly working for him.
I'm not a fan of the sound either, I think many drummers mix the kick like that, because the majority of commercial speakers and headphones don't reproduce tones below 40 hz, so the attack is the only thing people hear from the kick. I also think that's the reason smaller kicks are becoming more popular. A 22 inch bass with a felt beater produces some crazy low tones, and it just doesn't carry through.
I completely agree, amazing performance and all around wonderful spread of tone across all Tom's and cymbals from his set..but the kicks are just not my style at all. Just unpleasant at best
I've talked to Thomas at NAMM. He's down to earth and just loves to play drums. He will talk you're ear off about drums. That's why he's so good, he loves to play.
I've never met him but he seems a really nice guy.
You are amazing at drumming.
Thomas lang is the Chuck norris of drums.
Ummm...
Correction.
The Arnold Schwarzenegger of drums.
He's the T-(imekeeper) 1000.
The Messi or Maradona or Pele of drums
Let’s all just say that Thomas is like Hercules...more than a man, less than a god.
"Thomas 'Zamfir' Lang is a mythological drum god..... and master of the pan flute."
the drummer of Bare Dreams is better
Introducing the human drum machine - with millions of features!!
Toe MaS !!! Sounding killer as always my brother 💪🏽
THIS is the instant lego-lang! Let me SHOW you its features!
I was thinking the same thing.
A drum machine with "feeling" priceless. That's what TL is doing here. Amazing.
Wowwwww!!!
Awesome kit!
Each note resonates natural!
I can feel the sustain of each piece clearly!
Congrats, PDP!
Thank you
Thomas is a human machine!!!! And I mean that in the BEST possible way. So much soul, and SOOO much technique .. Great performance.
Pacific is stepping up their game!
Hell yeah!!! Pacific has overcome the "entry level" specs.
Pdp has been above entry level for quite some time. They are the subsidiary of DW
My Pdp platinum has the same shells that are on dw performance and dw collectors series. Even had dw reso heads
drumzilla9000 I doubt their the same? They may be American rock maple, but it’s a cheaper grade, and they’re not laid out the same as the performance, collectors or design series for that matter. drumzilla9000 they are not the same.
Drum King!
In the world.
Level of musical complexity of the other instruments: around 5/6 on a scale of 10
Level of musical complexity of thomas lang: 10.000 on a scale of 10
I agree, the drums feel way too busy to me as well. A few bars of flair here and there? Sure.

Dear Thomas, I´m really impressed. The sound, technique and versatility -its quite amazing and always a pleasure watching you performance.
I like how instead of doing what most drummers would do with this kit and go all out fast and loud, he is an impressive player, but still has a fun and consistent rhythm.
It makes me proud to own a pdp kit. Thank you pacific drums by Dw.
Incredible! Honored to be part of this album
One of the best drummers out there!!
There isn’t a more skilled drummer ever to walk the planet. Period
Only one Mike the master Mangini from Dream Theater that's it
J.D. Mangini is a beast but Lang has achieved limb independece perfection, the dude can fucking do anything at the same time
@@Emma_Z1 Mangini, Lang, Minneman, Donati and Collins are all insane. Just cause one hasn't done what the other has doesn't mean they cant.
Mike's very good, but...he doesn't compare to Lang.
That's a good deal for that price, they sound great. As always, I could watch you play for hours
That's a bad man there boys and girls.!!! The cat is incredible!,!
😃
Amazing drumming and I love the black hardware details on this kit!
I still think his the terminator.
PDP I love the upgrades etc but I’m sad to see the birch be discontinued though 😭
It takes players like this under performances like this and production like this to show the true sound of these kits. With the right mics and heads and good tuning, anyone can make these kits sound amazing!
Thomas Lang is the only person to actually make me consider purchasing a gong drum
If you play a kit around $1000 compared to a $5000 kit, and you use the same heads and tuning, there probably isn't a $4000 sound difference
That’s one of the best comments I’ve ever read.
Anton Maclean I often wonder what do you pay for when buying expensive drums. I guess it's mostly about tiny premium features and maybe unusual character. Because this PDP carbon fibre 7-piece kit is $899 (+tax?) and sounds killer.
This kick sounds better than his customs.... Wonder if the mic is set up to his preference.
The concept bass drums are just insane even without mics
Agree
Great playing from Thomas.. But where can I buy this kit?? Im not seeing the Carbon Fiber wrap anywhere on the internet?

Well Well Well Done !!!
Need to have this on Spotify
Does this come in sheet music? Damn!
This came out of nowhere and it blew me away
👍
Amazing.. As always!!
Progprop is killer!
Awesome as always 😀
he is a beast!
Who makes those little drums to the left of him he’s doing the accents on???
We do. They are 8" toms
Wish he would have gotten the dream theater gig.
DT wasn't for Thomas, too independent with his own projects, hence the reason Mike Portnoy left.

He’s not the Dream Theatre type. Sure he can play the gig, as good as anyone, but he’s a much larger influence than a rock band drummer.
is that an entire rack side of just 7x8 toms
So good 👍
