But I learned to appreciate that these movies contain some of his most ingenious work: Fields' view of marriage and family. It explains a lot of how he lived his life.
There were times when the character he portrayed drank in moderation and could almost be regarded as a good man and a family man, not perfect, just a guy in a complex world.

I would love to have heard how the late George Carlin would have treated what has gone down the last 5 years in the USA....the takeover of thought, free speech, and foisting of phony values, perverse ethics, and social outcome oriented behavior on humanity. He used to call out sophistry and silly behavior during his stage act....would it have continued if he were still alive? How would he have called out Silicon Valley, the Jack's, Zuckerberg's, Sergei, and similar ilk who are the ultimate arbiters of "fairness"? Let me see a comedian who develops an act with the centerpiece of his/her subject-matter "social" media, journalism, fact-checking, news, Internet SP "take down" self-determination. One knows the writing and casting is good when characters are able to bring out the intense emotion in me that WC's in-laws do. They make me feel like ripping into that breakfast with a frenzied festival of bitch slapping until mom and son crawl out on their hands and knees crapping their pants.
