- Echo was shot dead by police in Kingston, Jamaica on November 22, 1980 along with selector Flux (who also worked on his Echo Tone sound system), and Stereo Phonic owner Leon 'Big John' Johns, after they had stopped the car they were travelling in. The incident has never been satisfactorily explained.
Echo's death inspired Clint Eastwood & General Saint to team up and release the "Tribute to General Echo" single
one of the best dj in the 70s,don't think he got his due respect as one of the best.

Yo big stone stop playing with my memories....1979 to 1980 i was living on hope road 31 to be exact....a furniture work shop and a store used to be there. And there was a guy from downtown love lane (cliff) he used to bring cassette tapes with echo and madoo and more ...general echo was a master piece in his time ...was very slack too...i almost loved every song he do cooked or uncooked or raw so to speak..
